I need to address the reviews that state this is impossible to push or pull. The only way this is true is if you are using this on an area rug and are going against the grain. You know, the decorative, short pile 5x8s you get at biglots that are rolled up and the pile tends to lay more in one direction... If you stand in the opposite direction, you will see what I am talking about and it will no longer be an issue. So, to those people, either flip the rug or move yourself. Wall to wall carpet, wool area rugs (loop or pile) are no problems with this vac. Great for solid surface flooring and stairs too. You can turn of the beater brush and use suction only for hard surface flooring. The vac is not too heavy so it works well on stairs. Small doorway mats and/or runners, the kind with latex that you can throw in the washer, with a small loop pile (berber like) CAN be vacuumed with this too IF you turn the suction down on the handle. There is a cover that just rotates to lessen the suction so it does not suck the rugs up too. I have yet to come across something that this vac cant handle or adjust to.

We had a Dyson Animal vacuum for 15 years that needed to be replaced. We kept up the maintenance on it, but it just didn’t seem to be cleaning as well as it used to. I started researching vacuums and was a little nervous about this one due to some of the negative reviews. I am so glad I took the chance and bought it! I couldn’t believe how much it picked up the first time I used it (wish now I had taken a picture!) that my Dyson had left behind. After using it for almost a month and a half, I can say I love this vacuum! I wish I’d have bought it 2 years ago!

I just purchased my second shark vacuum. Theres no other vacuum I will use. A friend gave me a Bissell and I havent even put it together. This vacuum will pick up dirt, leaves and stickers better tracked in to the house as well as hair and cat fur. Its by far the best vacuum I have ever used and wont use any other.

So my previous vacuum was a tiny dirt devil cordless handheld vacuum. It was bad, very bad. It barely could suck things up that were big or small and it was horrible for spot carpet cleaning. I have seborrheic dermatitis - if you dont know what that is, think dandruff, but its on other parts of your face, and the dandruff thats on your head is 10000x worse. My computer chair is on top of a short pile carpet that is 10+ years old. Normally simple vacuums should be able to grab whatevers in the carpet and suck it up, but if youve ever dealt with flakes from seborrheic dermatitis, they look practically INVISIBLE on certain colored carpets, and even on short pile carpets they sink into the bottom layer of the carpet. This is bad because it makes it very difficult to vacuum it up, and over time those flakes disintergrate into tiny dust particles, and guess what that is food for? You betcha, DUST MITES. I would ritualistically vacuum the area around my computer table but I knew I wasnt quite getting to what was the actual problem. At first I was going to get a cheapo $60 Eureka one that I saw online, but then I thought about it - why not just get something thats a little bit more expensive but not Dyson levels of expensive and is just as powerful? Thats where this came in. Assembly was straightforward, instructions were clear. Plastic felt a bit on the brittle side for everything, but that seems to be the general case for most modern products. Hooked everything together, turned on the vacuum and DANG it was strong. I had a hard time pulling the vacuum off the carpet. Fortunately, unlike some of these other reviewers *I read the instructions*. This happens on short pile rugs and carpets - this can be easily remedied by reducing the suction through the suction ring thats near the handle. Counter clockwise for less suction, clockwise for more. You will hear an air leaking sound - THIS IS NORMAL. This is a pretty cheap and easy way for the vacuum to reduce suction - and you dont have to adjust it too far - I would say a 1/6th turn was enough to reduce the suction so I could move it around comfortably without feeling like Im fighting with the vacuum. After I cleaned the area in question - the dust cup was already HALF FULL with dust. And it wasnt the typical dust youd see from the top layer of the carpet - this thing picked up what looked like extremely fine powdered sandy/colored stuff. It was obvious that it was the flakes that have dropped from my head that got pulled into the bottom layer of the carpet. Now Im sure a standard old school canister vacuum could do the same thing and my lack of experience with vacuums is just overplaying my experience, but as you can see from the other reviews here, people who have used other vacuums before can attest to the fact that this thing is *REALLY STRONG*. Bang for buck high power for its price. Also Amazon has a payment plan thing you can use which makes the bite required to buy this hurt less as well. Another thing the manual will warn you about - the vacuum is not stable upright - lean it against the wall or around items that can support just in case it tips over or find some straps to keep it secured against.

Great vacuum! Love the suction-only feature (no brush rotation if so desired), as my new carpeting is loop-pile not cut-pile so I cant use a rotating brush on it. Great suction. Works great on my hardwood floors! Lightweight but powerful. Love the easy of the hose-only feature, and its easy to dump the canister. Love the articulating head to get around objects and under furniture. Ive never said I loved a vacuum before (and Ive had many in 50 years)--I love this vacuum! Would buy from this seller again--the vacuum was delivered in one day! Very reasonably priced too.

I’ve owned kirby’s and dyson’s and this budget saving Shark vacuum has far stronger suction than the expensive counterparts. From this day forward I will stick with shark for my vacuum needs.

I have been looking for a heavy duty vacuum cleaner for a while and I have found it. This vacuum cleaner is awesome. I have two dogs and my house gets pretty dusty with dog hair. I used this vacuum cleaner as soon as it was delivered and it picked up one years worth of dust from the carpet that was not picked up by my previous lame vacuum cleaner. Carpets smell so clean after using this vacuum cleaner, I am very happy with the purchase

I like this little vacuum. It is the first upright I have owned, I always had canisters. The reason it has only 4 stars is that emptying the bag-less canister is yucky. See below. I thought I’d list pros and cons. It generally works very well. PROs It really sucks (in a good way). Very powerful suction. Especially great if you have dogs that shed out an undercoat. It has a detachable hose with tools that lets you clean in crevices or under furniture. Or if you REALLY need major suction you can use the hose. The hose is a little short, but it is convenient. It is compact. We tended to keep out canister vacuum in the living room because we used it every day. It was ugly and took up a lot of space. This one fits in a corner and doesn’t take up much space. I like that it sits upright and doesn’t fall over when I want to stop it for a second. I like the twisting head which really does make it easy to maneuver. A switch that turns it on for floors only or for carpet is convenient. CONs The main thing that is bad is emptying the plastic waste container. There are a lot of very fine particles. I have to empty it outside and into a used plastic shopping bag. You really don’t want to breath the dust in, you might even want to wear a respirator mask. Also, the dog hair gets stuck way up in the container, where the middle is blocked by the round hose connection, and it is very hard to get out. I have to use a thin twig to coax the clumps of hair out. I find this annoying. Did I mention that there is a lot of super fine dirt/dust? It is heavy to push and pull. Of course, I am used to a canister, so if you are used to an upright it might not seem heavy to you. The power cord is shorter than my old vacuum so I have to re-plug it in all the time as I move around the house. You have to hold the power cord up out of the way so you don’t vacuum over it. You experienced upright users might not have a problem with this. I don’t know yet about the filters. The Shark brand filters are very expensive, especially the HEPA filter, so I bought non-Shark branded filters. I don’t know how they are going to work. I try to wash out the stock filters pretty frequently so they don’t get too gummed up. Since they have to dry for 24 hours after washing them it might be convenient to have an extra set that you alternate with. UPDATE June 2021: So the hose on this vacuum is a piece of junk. If you try to use it to clean crevasses or furniture by unhooking the top part, the hose just cracks after a couple of months. It breaks even if I am being very careful (which I have been). I have had to buy TWO replacements to the tune of $40 each. I would not buy this vacuum again. Between this piece of junk hose and the huge amounts of fine dust that accumulates in the receptacle that you have to get exposed to, it is better to get something else.
