> 3 dayThis Sodola 16 Gigabit switch is the perfect network component for home and small business LANs when more capacity is needed, or during initial setup. The build quality is all metal and the fanless operation keeps this switch running quietly. There is rack mounting hardware for more sophisticated setups, and the power supply is built in so there are no need for power bricks. The switch uses a standard 3 prong computer power cord, although the included one is pretty short, it can easily be replaced with a longer one. The Ethernet ports are on the front with LEDs to indicate power and link status and activity. The LED for each port will light when connected and blink when there is activity on the port. An LED below it will illuminate steady when the switch detects a gigabit connection. One thing that I dont like is the easy to move physical switch that protrudes from the front panel that changes modes from VLAN, Default or Extend. I would have liked to at least have this switch moved to the back, and even better make it a 3 way DIP switch that is recessed to avoid accidental (or deliberate) movement. Since this is an unmanaged switch it is simply plug and play. There is nothing to setup but plugging in the Ethernet cables and power cord. There is no user interface or configuration required. The documentation included is minimal, but that is typical for most of the lesser known Chinese components that Ive gotten. The Sodola 16 port switch is replacing two 8 port switches that I piggybacked together. When I powered it on I immediately noticed an increase in speed on my local network, especially from the media server. Im really happy with the performance of this switch and its price point this is definitely worth it. It has been reliable and should be for years to come (I hope). For those not network savvy keep in mind in most cases a router and modem or INT are necessary to use this switch to connect to the internet, it cannot be used by itself.

> 3 dayThis is my second SODALA switch. My first one (a 4 port model) has been running the several of the security cameras around my house since January and has worked quite well. This is basically identical to it, except with 8 port rather than 4, which I really like as that will let me get rid of three additional PoE injectors and consolidate them to one switch. So far, I did a bit of quick testing on this with a few phones (Grandstream, Fanvil, Vtech/SNOM) and a couple of security cameras (Reolink and Foscam). All worked fine (which is good, as the Vtech/SNOM is known for being quite picky and wont work with some of my PoE sources). That being said, the one device that did not work QUITE properly with this switch is a Netgear WAX615 access point from work, which I just plugged in out of curiosity. While the WAX615 fired up and works, it only detected this as a lower power 802.3af switch rather than 802.3at, so it operates in a reduced bandwidth mode. However, I am not going to knock any points off this review based on that, as, so far, the only PoE switch I have found that the WAX615 seems to work at full speed with is specifically one built by Netgear (go figure). As that is the only 802.3at device I have at the moment, I cant say for sure if that is an issue with the access point or with the 802.3at implementation in this switch (and several others). The VLAN and extend modes I have not tested, as they are not particularly useful for my own setup. The only criticism I have of this switch is that LEDs are all at the bottom and not very visible nor very informative (all they show is activity, not PoE status nor link speed). While I would really prefer them to be a bit better on this, for the price, Im still not complaining. Overall though, I like this switch, it seems to work well for the devices I actually need it to work with, I like that it has dual uplink ports, I like that it has 8 PoE ports and a large power budget, and I like the price!

> 3 dayNice for just a few devices...probably makes the most sense for those with POE devices (say, 2-3 security cams), or wants a VLAN setup. SOLIDLY made.

> 3 dayThis is a great silent commercial class Gigabit switch, sturdy metal case and a big plus for me is it is 110V powered (no power supply to get misplaced or confused with another devices power supply). Truly plug and play for standard use, with an option to use it as either a LAN extender where transmission distance can be increased by 150% but, big caveat, this reduces throughout to 10Mb/s on all downlink ports (uplink ports 15 and 16 continue to show 1GB/s connectivity). Lights showing port status are clear and informative without being intrusive. As a commercial grade product it includes versatile mounting options for data center cabinets/racks, but can also be used on desk top, I’d like to see rubber feet for this scenario though to protect my desk surface! Great value for money and definitely recommended.

> 3 dayThis Sodola gigabit ethernet switch was a breeze to set up. Took me all of 2 to 3 minutes and my wired system was up and running. No hitches whatsoever. This 16 port model may have been overkill for my particular needs but in our house we are moving totally away from wifi since we find our streaming speeds are far superior when hard wired. So we are adding to our LAN network all the time and the spare ports will be welcome down the line. We have been streaming through the Sodola switch on multiple computers without any hiccups or buffering since the installation. Thumbs up on this switch.

> 3 dayThe Sodola 8 port Gigabit PoE switch is very easy to use. Just plug an ethernet cable from your existing network into the uplink port and plug your PoE devices into the PoE ports. The switch negotiates with the ports to determine if PoE is required on a port. This switch has a built-in power supply that can deliver 30W to a single port and a total for the switch of up to 120W. It has VLAN or Extend functions that can be selected by a small slide switch located on the front of the unit. It is a nicely executed piece of gear at a reasonable price.

04-06-2025Was able to power up a couple of small devices with the POE from this switch. Im a Unifi user, so will probably find some remote use for this

> 3 dayVery basic POE switch for the price/value you get. This is not managed so there is no webUI/console interface. It is your basic 4-port switch with POE 802.3at/af (15w/30w) max output. Forwarding rates and port capacity is not known at time of review either. No manual include, spec sheet listed. The VLAN switch will partition off the ports but this switch does not support any sort of layer 2 management so don’t expect tagging vlans; it’s just a hardware partition for the ports. There are two uplink ports that do not support lacp either - but it does have an extended wire mode so you can have extremely long distances >250m (typical is your 100m @cat5, 1Gbps supported) - extending this to 250m will make the ports function at less than fast ethernet speeds (10Mb). Most security cameras bandwidth won’t exceed 8Mb at max so that’s not a problem. Overall a very basic POE switch - I’d use this for powering external devices/cameras more so than using it for gaming, etc. The price reflects the performance - only extra added benefit is the POE and the built in power supply which is your run of the mill generic power supply. You can definitely use this as your gaming switch but there’s just nothing special about this switch. It will take a few months to determine longevity. I have it currently connected to 4-security cameras and the uplink to a core switch and it works flawlessly.

> 3 dayFor the money, this little PoE switch is a great deal, especially with all ports being Gigabit capable. It is compact and seems to work well. I was able to power up and access one of my security cameras through it with no problems at all. I am also pleased that the switch seems to run very cool and, even with two PoE cameras connected to it, is still not even noticeably warmer than ambient after 30 minutes of use. Unlike some other PoE switches I have looked at recently that had no uplink at all, this one having two is great and makes it perfectly suited for being able to daisy chain multiple PoE switches together. As my existing PoE switch only has a single uplink and is full and I am planning to add some additional security cameras around my house, having the dual uplinks on this one should really simplify my wiring. The extend and VLAN modes are interesting features but not ones that I am sure I will ever use. I still may investigate the VLAN option to see if it reduces network contention to the cameras at all (unlikely, but still worth checking out). The extend option I shouldnt ever need as my house simply isnt that big. For use with security cameras and similar devices, this little switch is fantastic and the price is nice.
