The Beatles - The Beatles white album - Capitol Records - SWBO 101 VG+/VG

Firstly Ill say, this is an immaculate package. I first got The White Album when I was about 17, which was around twenty years after the initial release. It is one of those albums that reveals, on repeated headphone listenings, many treasures. So, even at £125, this is great value. Remember, even now, The Beatles, arent everyones cup of tea. I am in a job where I have the opportunity, and often ask people of that generation who did you like. A lot of people would rather say the Stones, rather than JohnPaulGeorgeRingo. I wonder what Derek Taylor, their press officer would say now about this 50th anniversary release. I wouldnt presume, but I think he would say that this is their magnum opus. Maybe they wrote more popular songs, but this is the group in an experimental state; later they would do the Get Back project, but The White Album often represents them raw, opening their hearts and saying things that were real to them. Listen to Julia, did Lennon ever write a more beautiful or heartfelt song? They absorbed all the counterculture influences, and filtered them through their magic blend of Beatle brilliance. Four young men, who changed my world for the better, got me thinking about art, music and self-expression. And dont think that they didnt care what people thought, were arrogant. They needed hits and airplay as much as any band; you are only as good as your last record. They had pressures, still they thought, lets do this anyway. Lets put this out. Its that old maxim do what you pleases you, first. For me The Beatles will always be the band with the best taste, always producing what the people want, they just didnt realise it yet.

Sound quality on the remixed-remastered 2 CDs is incredible. Treble and bass are extended without being strident or boomy. The sound stage is huge, with lots of air between and around instruments. Its like hearing the album again for the first time! There are differences in the mixes, and they are all for the better, in my opinion. The 5.1 Bluray audio mix is mind-blowing. If you ever wondered what it would have been like to be sitting on the floor of the studio as the Beatles recorded the White Album, well, this is it! All Beatle people MUST experience this! The Esher demos are great, as we see where the finished versions actually came from. The bonus tracks, alternate takes, and unreleased tracks are very interesting, and well worth the listen. I highly recommend this set!!!

I bought this for the 5.1 mix down. I HATE the mastering for BluRay. I would prefer this as a Super Audio CD instead. I have similar feelings for Sgt. Peppers BluRay. Everytime I start it, the mastering makes playing these releases hellish as the first however many beginning bars repeat over and over, while I try to get the BluRay to play 5.1 channel. Someone tell me how to make it start 5.1 and Ill accept this version, however everytime I insert these releases I get it starting as stereo, playing the same few bars over and over. So my copy sits in its box with much less play time than I anticipated at purchase. The music, excellent, hey, its the Beatles. BluRay just makes it almost impossible to listen to.

Arrived perfectly

This is quite a collectors edition of the Beatles White Album. Excellent stereo version of the album. The Esher demos are a lot of fun to listen as well as the outtakes. This album recommended for all Beatle Fans.

The items were very good. The sound and the articles were very good.

I bought the original White Album 50 years ago and to hear the various methods the Beatles used to achieve their sound is wonderful. Also makes me feel younger!

I love the sound and the extra tracks never heard before. The book was ok, should of had more color pictures. It is worth the money thought.

Really enjoying this whole music/words experience. (But, then, this makes the 7th time Ive bought a version of this album, since 1968)
