> 24 hourLast time I ordered an umbrella through Amazon the lock failed after a month. I contacted the supplier about it being defective without a response. I learned my lesson and will only purchase from Totes. The best ever!!!

> 24 hourI picked this umbrella to review because, hard to believe, Im an umbrella geek. In 1975, we went to London for our first trip to this great city. All of our friends said, bring an umbrella - yes, England is an island in the stormy seas so it rains a lot. We bought a portable / collapsable Totes Umbrella in NYC and carried (and used it) all during that trip. We stopped into some of the wonderful British shops to see if their reputation for well made, old world craftsmanship was justified. I found a Brigg umbrella store and went crazy for their beautiful products. Their prices reflected the quality but, I dug deep and bought an umbrella for, gulp, $300! (Im amazed that I can write that without getting sick). The beauty of the umbrella, craftsmanship, literally everything made it a work of art and a treasured possession. One day, I brought it to work on a rainy day, and when I came back from the in-house cafeteria, the umbrella was missing from my cubical! My $300 umbrella was gone... Happily, an hour later, a co-worker cam by and put my umbrella back, soaking wet, and told me he needed it since he was going out to eat at a local restaurant. He told me he left it at the door because it was wet and, picked it up when he left! Needless to say, I never brought that to work again. In fact, it sits, securely in my closet - seldom if ever getting used! With that as preamble (sorry), this Totes umbrella called my name when it came up on Vine. First, Totes makes great stuff - evidence, the 1974 collapsable umbrella is still in use in our house. Works great (although the light tan fabric is a little dirty). That little umbrella has been to Europe 4 times (Germany, France, Austria (wow did it rain in Austria), Monaco and Italy). It has been to Canada, California, Florida, Cape Cod... and it has held up really well. This new full size umbrella has that same build quality and I expect well pass it on to our heirs - yeah, its that good. Its easy to open with a simple and its easy to close too. I havent used it in a high wind but I suspect that, based on the feel of the struts, it should be able to withstand gusts without problems. The rain shedding treatment is a surprising feature. So far, its OK - Im surprised because in the Brigg store in London, the sales rep gave me a lesson on how to briskly open / close / open / close the umbrella to expertly flick drops off. That, he said, was the mark of a true umbrella expert. With this new fabric treatment, thats less important. Oh well... If you live in a part of the world with lots of rain (San Francisco / Florida friends note) this umbrella is worth a try. Recommended

> 24 hourI normally buy and use compact umbrellas that I can carry in a backpack or a small shopping bag. I generally dont use the longer umbrellas. But I did need something a bit larger and of a better quality for some errands I must do in the rain, so I thought I would try this full-size umbrella. I was quite surprised at how nice it is. This umbrella is very lightweight. Its lighter than my smaller umbrellas. The materials appear to be of at least good to very good quality. the canopy material does not feel loose or loosely connected to the frame. Its very tight. The handle has a nice feel to it, in terms of the material used for the finishing. The umbrella opens fast and is easy to close. A large press-button latch is simple and does not require a hard push or a lot of strength to operate. Its what you would want in an umbrella! Given how lightweight it is, its easy to carry around. When folded, the entire length is 36. Totes always was at the forefront of umbrella manufacture, and this model should satisfy those who want this type of style and length. While I have not yet been caught in a huge wind-driven rainstorm with it, it should perform better than any other umbrella I currently have in a somewhat harsh rain. It also comes in numerous colors. I chose Moroccan Blue. Very nice! Overall, I like this umbrella. I really think you will, too!

> 24 hourThe totes Signature Auto Open Stick NeverWet Umbrella is an attractive umbrella, with a comfortable curved handle, an easy to use push button for opening, and smooth, manual closure. The NeverWet aspect is an invisible coating that is supposed to allow the rain to roll off the umbrella, like RainX does for a windshield. This coating does work well, and the rain does roll off the umbrella, leaving it wet but not dripping. The problem I had with it was that the rain rolls to the bottom of the umbrella, then drips off--on me. After some jiggling around of the angle of the umbrella, I was able to get it to drip on my back rather than my arms or face, and it wasnt such a nuisance. It is advertised to give 46 coverage, and for that to be enough for two people. It will not cover two people, unless it covers heads only (without shoulder coverage). Given the dripping of the droplets, I think it would be extremely uncomfortable to try to fit two people under it. It covers one person very well, though. Personally, I think the NeverWet feature is not that good, nor that necessary, but I am impressed with the ease of opening and closing the umbrella, the coverage for one person, and the look of it. I
