05-06-2025Very happy with this purchase, especially at the sale price. Works great with my desktop (Win XP and 7) and Laptop (Win 7) computers. Also works well with my PS3, including system backup (in about half the time required by the 64GB thumb drive I had been using) as well as for general storage. At first, I was concerned about the custom USB cable with the oddball double-barreled connector on the drive end. Finding a replacement could be fun if it ever gets damaged. On the bright side, the cable seems to be robustly constructed so it should stand up to reasonable wear and tear, and a quick expermient proved that a standard USB cable will work with this particular model. (Some other models in this line require two USB ports on the computer end, presumably to avoid exceeding the current limit of a single port. Those would require the custom cable provided with the unit, as two separate standard cables cannot be connected to the drive.)

> 3 dayi loved this product in the beginning. It allowed me to store a great deal of psychiatric reports; poetry; photos; and even a novel I was even working on until 2016 one year later after I bought it, when it suddenly went haywire and hijacked my work from under me. It disallowed my ASUS and Dell computers from recognizing it and to get the data from it when it started to demand that we enter a 48 digit BIT encryptic code. Concerned and anxious about the work I had on it I hired two computer techs to try to get it open and even they who are the experts could not open this thing up. We all could not figure out why in the world this thing would suddenly do this out of the blue. I wound up calling up the manufacturer Transcend about this to ask them whether they sent out any signals over the internet to tell this device to do this to their customers. Especially when the customer such as myself have never placed such protective settings into it. They denied that they did so. People dont waste your money.I have just learned the hard way that it is better and safer to get a flash drive from Ebay.com for $12,99 with the same amount of memory and would give you less heartache in the long-run. It looks good on the outside but is bad on in the inside. I learned the hard way after losing precious work on this thing for no reason at all. It just turned corrupt. The manufacturer will not even guarantee that they could even get my book back off of it. I will send my back to them. They say they would send me a replacement but this time I will back my stuff up with a flash drive. Also if you lose or damage the usb cable that goes with it , it is impossible to find a replacement for it online. Impossible,

> 3 dayI bought this in late November of 2012 to replace another hard drive I had that was getting old and I was afraid it would crap out on my soon. I read the reviews and figured this was the way to go. Well after light use sitting on a desk for about 80% the time it stopped mounting on any computer. Im a professional concert photographer and had been using it to store some of my more recent photos. Unfortunately when it failed I had about 20 shows that I hadnt backed up anywhere else. I know - my fault. Needless to say I was pretty distraught and tried it on a number of computers, incluidng a few Mac Book Pros, iMacs and PCs just to be sure it wasnt an issue with my computer. No mounting on any version of the OSs that I had easy access to. I spent $100 on a disk recovery software (Data Rescue 3) hoping that by some miracle it would detect it - no dice. As a last resort I called the customer support line for the software I bought because Transcend offers no phone support. The tech I spoke with at Prosoft walked me through a few things and then suggested that as a last resort I crack open the enclosure and try the hard drive in a different enclosure or a SATA dock. I checked the warranty info on Transcends site and saw that opening the enclosure would void my warranty. So i was left with a choice of sending them the defunct drive and losing all of my data or attempting to mount the drive using another USB controller. Unfortunately, in my case the data is worth more than the replacement drive. I cracked open the enclosure and removed the drive. Once I put it in another enclosure the drive showed up immediately. I was able to recover all of my data but am now left with a disassembled and non-working enclosure, a hard drive that I am afraid to ever use again and a $100 recovery program that I didnt even need. Needless to say, I dont think Ill be buying any more Transcend products any time soon.

> 3 dayHaving recently received this item, and just planning to use it for backing up my music, crosswords, and certain installation programs, I havent had much chance to test its indestructibility. Hopefully, I never will. But knowing that I should be covered in that fashion is great, since I think I killed a Creative external drive with low-level impacts, just by putting it back in the drawer. This has more than enough storage space for anything I think I might store. I have almost 1600 songs at this point, plus other files, and the drive status still only shows a sliver of used space. It has high-speed transfer capability, I think, with the use of a double USB cable, but works just fine with just one connector if your computer doesnt have two front USB ports. As an add-on, pick up the CaseCrown Hard Cover Case (Black) for Transcend StoreJet Hard Drive. Fits the drive just right, with elastic bands to hold the USB cable.

Greater than one weekAfter a series of power outages, I discovered my Macs Time Machine backup external HD and the second external HD I use for photographs had both stopped working. Luckily, my computer and the internal HD were still functioning perfectly so I did not lose any critical information. It became obvious to me that I needed a more reliable system of backing up, especially for my photographs which are the most important and irreplaceable of all my files. I decided I cannot trust a single backup source and I no longer trusted a full time external HD due to my previous experience. After a bit of thought and research, I decided to back up my photographs on multiple portable hard drives. These Transcend drives fulfill the purpose perfectly. I no longer do photography professionally so I dont have a huge inventory of images. What I do have are personal photographs which are more important to me than any of the photographs I did for pay. Im willing to spend a little extra time on these images. After every download of files from the cameras, after converting the Raw images and after doing necessary adjustments, I manually copy the Raw and final image files to each of several Transcend drives. Its a bit time-consuming but its worth it to me to feel the photos are now secure. As a final archiving, I make at least one print of my favorite photographs (few photos actually fit in this category) on cotton rag inkjet paper with pigment inks and I store the prints in museum boxes. Ive been following this procedure for the past six months and the Transcend drives have been performing as expected. 02/05/2016 UPDATE: Ive continued to follow this procedure for photo backups with no problems. Its about time to replace my aging Mac Mini and I think Ill probably jump to the new iMac. While I think Ill try an Apple Time Machine again and possibly add a SSD for another photo backup drive, Im satisfied with the multipleTranscend drive option.

> 3 dayI cant say how disappointed I am with this product. It stopped working after week 4 for no apparent reason. Have to return it and buy something else. It looks great and is sturdy on the outside but I wouldnt recommend it. *********** 8/15/2013 UPDATE TO MY INITIAL REVIEW ****************** I wish I was providing a better update, but if there was a 0 rating for this product, I would change my 1 to a 0. I cannot adequately describe how disappointed I am in the company and product. When the product stopped worked after only using it for 4 weeks, I tried to get it fixed. I had completely forgotten about my warranty. Then I got an email from Amazon asking me to rate the prodcut, so I gave my honest feedback above. After I wrote my initial review, Captain Transcend reached out and I engaged the company hopeful for a resolution. Upon their suggestion, I sent the product in to get a replacement and have them attempt to recover my data. A few times after trying to reach support for questions, I would not get a response. No call backs, no returning voice mail. Eventually, we connected and I mailed in the product at my expense. Today I was informed that they are returning my drive because the seal is broken and that voids the warranty. I explained to the lady in support that the seal was broken because the product stopped working and I tried to get it fixed. She said there was nothing she could do. My disappointment comes in how the matter was handled. While I understand that I should not have taken the product to be fixed, I also understand that Transcend should make products that WORK. If the drive worked as expected (and paid for in full), I would not have had to try and get it fixed. There was no effort on their part to come to a resolution for the sake of the customer. At one point I was told that I was free to do whatever I wanted when I mentioned that I would be rating their product online. If you are one of the people whose drive works - good for you! I took the time to write this review in case it helps someone else. If you get stuck with one of the defective drives, good luck trying to deal with Transcend. Maybe you will fare better. As for me, I am back to square one, looking for a drive not made by this company.

> 3 dayWe bought two of these over two years ago. We have them connected via the short cable supplied to 6-ft extension cables to a 7-port hub that is connected to a USB 2.0 port on our computer. The computer recognizes the two ext. hard-drives as J: and K: These are used daily, with files going in and out constantly, mostly image files, plus documents and program files as well. We like them so well that we plan to add two more to our fleet. They may both quit tomorrow; but thus far, neither has had so much as a skipped beat. I am looking forward to getting them connected to my new computer that has USB 3.0 and finally get to experience what we have been missing with 2.0 Thanks for reading; I hope it helps someone with their buying decision.

Greater than one weekI take raw digital photos and have learned the HARD way (with a hard drive crashed and at a friends to try to retrieve lost photos) that you need to download the masses of raw photos you take and store them off your computers. I do use an online backup system but it gets expensive for more than one computer and has some limitations. It updates, it doesnt store versions. For versions, you should use an external hard drive. In addition, if you dont want private data in the cloud, you can back up personal files and put this in a safety deposit box or keep locked up off site. A house in the next neighborhood to us just burnt to the ground in only a few minutes this week. A big house, not a mobile home. It was consumed in no time, which was astonishing. No one was hurt, thankfully, but an off-site data storage is pretty much a good idea as we move to digital files and photos these days. This was simple to set up. You do need USB 3 (older computers may not comply.) You can drag-and-drop individual or groups of files, or use a one-touch backup with the Transcend software. Works for me.

> 3 dayI received the 1TB drive yesterday, and I absolutely love it. As a Linux-only person, its important to me that products work--and work well--with Linux. This drive most definitely does. Straight out of the box. As with most things Linux, the OS detects the hardware and the user doesnt need to do anything. No software to install, nothing to configure, just plug it in and youre good to go. Of course, the software thats included on the drive doesnt work with Linux--its only for Mac and windows--but I wouldnt use it anyway. I prefer to manage my files with my own methods, so Im not missing anything by not being able to use the included software. For what its worth, the software is stored in directories called RecoveRx, StoreJett ToolBox, and Transcend Elite. Linux users please note: Its file system as shipped is FAT32. If you leave it like that youll come across the idiotic microsoft nonsense of thinking THISFileName and thisFILEname are the same. Use gParted or your favorite disk partition utility to format it as ext3, ext4, or whatever your preference is, to get around that issue. Im very impressed, and pleased, with the speed of copying files to and from this drive. Super fast! Its military grade shock resistance is nice to have, but hopefully I wont ever need it. :) For its price, $68.99 (and free shipping, since I have Prime), its a great buy.
