The hard drive on my computer was more than half full, and I wanted a place to store all my computer videogames. Being technologically incompetent, I hesitated to buy an external hard drive. I was sure it would require some kind of geeky knowledge to install and use, but based on prior reviews, I decided to take a chance as it was so reasonably priced. I was very pleasantly surprised - installed without a hitch simply by plugging in the USB cord, and I was able to download to it immediately without any effort at all. New games download directly to the Transcend, and Ive had no problem playing them - theres only a slight delay as the computer links to the hard drive. The Transcend has been so easy to use, in fact, that I decided to put a lot of my more confidential files onto it, just in case my computer crashes some day. Definitely a good buy for someone who wants just a basic external hard drive or storage purposes.

Originally got this for my P.C. then had to switch it over to my Xbox One. Had trouble initializing until I was able to format it. (Think double dutch) afterward it workes like a charm was able to move most of the games off my hard drive and run them off of it with no problem. Only a slightly longer time needed to load but nothing major. If you have a newer game system most games require anywhere between 20 and 60 gigs of storage on your system and with most Internet providers having a 250-350 gig limit (you dont know about it till you hit it) additional storage is a must. (Just spreading the knowledge)

Looking for another durable backup, but got a Silicon Power 4 TB drives and it started clicking and my computer had issues recognizing. To be extra careful, ordered a replacement. It clicked continuously when I was doing nothing to it. Ive had the Transcend since 2/2016 with no issues other than backup software I dont care for, so going to take a chance on them again, even though the 4 TB is a lot more expensive than Seagate, WD and SP.

I have spent at least an hour trying to figure out how to use this, and I havent been able to find anything. This isnt a simple plug-in and start dragging files in to back them up kind of drive. There are some things ON the drive when you plug it in (a link to register your product, some other folders, etc.), but there is no way to delete them or replace them or edit the contents of the drive at all... which I what its FOR. Im having to really hold myself back right now not to get really rant and go on forever about how frustrated I am about this... UPDATE: Added a star for two reasons: I had to reformat it, which I didnt know how to do and there were no instructions on the box for how to do so. However, once I tried using this with Time Machine the computer itself prompted me that it would have to reformat the card to work. Now that its done that, it seems to be working fine. Also, I did register this complaint with the company and they answered me within a few days. I had already figured out the above, though, so their information didnt really help me much, but I did appreciate that they answered back with relative quickness and accuracy.

I bought this for external storage for my Xbox one. It is not a 7200 RPM drive, but it works just fine. I think the price was awesome, and it looks pretty cool as well. Update: 12/29/2015 - After using this for a few days, it seems not to work well with my Xbox One after all. Any games I had running off of it would freeze for about 10 seconds randomly. I moved the games back to internal, and have not had an issue since. I do want people to know this is a great product, and maybe it is something else, but I have a brand new Xbox One and it works just fine without it. If you need a great external drive for anything else, this is the one for you!

I bought 5 of these. Been using them as an easy-to-carry, rugged, off-site backup. One died after several months, but was swapped for a new one without hassle by Transcend after an RMA. Though the RMA went smoothly, I am concerned about their longevity when used to backup 500MB to 1TB at a time (only once a week, but still). The case gets warm in such usage, and heat is a killer for drives. Also, though the interface is USB 3, the drive itself cant read/write at anywhere near that speed and is the choke point. Im seeing performance just beyond USB 2 speeds while connected to USB 3 ports. The USB 3 connection wont be pushed unless you swap the conventional drive for an SSD.

I take raw digital photos and have learned the HARD way (with a hard drive crashed and at a friends to try to retrieve lost photos) that you need to download the masses of raw photos you take and store them off your computers. I do use an online backup system but it gets expensive for more than one computer and has some limitations. It updates, it doesnt store versions. For versions, you should use an external hard drive. In addition, if you dont want private data in the cloud, you can back up personal files and put this in a safety deposit box or keep locked up off site. A house in the next neighborhood to us just burnt to the ground in only a few minutes this week. A big house, not a mobile home. It was consumed in no time, which was astonishing. No one was hurt, thankfully, but an off-site data storage is pretty much a good idea as we move to digital files and photos these days. This was simple to set up. You do need USB 3 (older computers may not comply.) You can drag-and-drop individual or groups of files, or use a one-touch backup with the Transcend software. Works for me.

Having recently received this item, and just planning to use it for backing up my music, crosswords, and certain installation programs, I havent had much chance to test its indestructibility. Hopefully, I never will. But knowing that I should be covered in that fashion is great, since I think I killed a Creative external drive with low-level impacts, just by putting it back in the drawer. This has more than enough storage space for anything I think I might store. I have almost 1600 songs at this point, plus other files, and the drive status still only shows a sliver of used space. It has high-speed transfer capability, I think, with the use of a double USB cable, but works just fine with just one connector if your computer doesnt have two front USB ports. As an add-on, pick up the CaseCrown Hard Cover Case (Black) for Transcend StoreJet Hard Drive. Fits the drive just right, with elastic bands to hold the USB cable.

I havent had this but a few days, but have attempted backups about 7 times. Every backup failed and I received error messages telling me different reasons why it failed. Although some files do copy to the external drive (and very few), never has all of them. Here is the info in my error messages ... Sometimes it tells me it won`t copy anything over 4G. When I print out the error log, it says `the system cannot find the path.` Plus, the Transend Elite software will not give me the option to backup my Pictures or Video folders ... it only allows me to copy from Favorites, Desktop, Documents. I included the above info into an email to tech support. Here was the reply I received back. Keep in mind, I had multiple issues (cant copy over 4G, cannot find the path, cant backup my Pictures, etc). ______________________________________________________ TRANSEND TECH: All hard drives and flash drives come formatted to FAT32 by default. FAT32 does not support files larger than 4 GB and most likely you have files larger than 4 GB. In order to get around this problem you have to reformat the drive to either the NTFS or exFAT file systems. ______________________________________________________ No where does this tech person tell me how to format the drive. I have since found out how on the internet, but apprehensive to do it not knowing if it will prevent me from returning it if it still refuses to back up my files. I removed the folders that were on the error report (5 folders), that had the error cannot find the path. I then tried to backup the folders left, and I still received a message that the backup failed. Im now looking for a different drive and will return this one when I find it. The software on this one is poor to average, in my opinion. The reason I even gave 2 stars is because the device itself is very nice looking and solid made, and the backup attempt was fast using 3.0 USB.

One plus one is greater than two. Transcend"s StoreJet 25M3 portable hard drive combines the advantages of Transcend"s award-winning shockproof StoreJet M series and the next-generation SuperSpeed transfer rates of USB 3.0, allowing users to enjoy ultra-fast file transfers and the highest level of anti-shock protection. Besides its outstanding combination of super fast transfer speeds and extra-rugged anti-shock design, the StoreJet 25M3 is equipped with an extremely convenient One Touch auto-backup button. Now you can instantly backup, synchronize and copy large files without having to waste precious time waiting for the transfer to complete.
