What can I say? 100% better then bcd536hp. Simulcast works! No garble like the other home patrols. Im using proscan to program. It will take some time to get use to for programing even with proscan. Im so use to home patrols setup. Otherwise its a keeper!!! I dont have to play with p25 threshold. I leave it on auto. Homepatrol I had to change the settings and that would not be 100% at least I got this unit for a lower price like 368 instead of paying into the middle 400s like it was before because of Covid.

Best scanner for the money for P2 Scanning. Easily half the cost of the new models and works as well as its higher priced brothers.

Overall, this was a really good radio, but two areas were not up to my expectations: First, there are two agencies near me that use conventional digital, and while this was my first experience having a digital scanner, all voice sounded computer-generated, and not realistic at all. These were US Govt and Texas DPS agencies. I dont think I could pick out someone I knew with this digital voice quality; Second, and more importantly, this radio had trouble eliminating bleed over. One channel, a Sheriff repeater (159MHz), would constantly bleed over onto a county fire channel (158MHz), and occasionally over city police (151MHz), and two US Govt channels (169MHz and 173MHz), until I put in tone or DCS, but since the county fire channel used the same tone as the Sheriff channel, it never eliminated that bleed over, even though they were over 400KHz apart. The only way I stopped this was to disconnect the external house antenna and just use the telescoping antenna, or to attenuate the county fire channel, but neither of those were alternatives I wanted to use. My three other radios, a Uniden BC125AT, Uniden BC560XLT, and Kenwood TM-281A did not exhibit this bleed over behavior at all, even without using tone squelch. I could live with the poor digital voice quality if the bleed over wasnt such an issue.

I received it late because of UPS. It is a little hard too program even with free scan and radio reference. I recommend finding a local person that can fully program it if you are not tech savvy. It gets very good reception with stock antenna, and squelch is easy to control. The sound is good volume great. It has the capability to receive more channels under more bands than you can count. From ham, gmrs, public analog, trucnked ect... It is ruggedly built, metal not plastic. It reminds one of the good quality from the 1970-1980 era. Buttons are easy to operate with positive feel. It is expensive, but seems well worth the cost as it has all the features needed to listen to all the local and federal channels within about 150 miles and a little more. It also picks up some aircraft bands. Go ahead and buy it, you will be pleased with it.

Great scanner for P25 I and II systems and analog trunked and non-trunked systems. Beware, this isnt your fathers scanner as the nomenclature and system trees are totally new for those with previous scanner users. Saying there is a steep learning curve is quite the understatement but when you figure it out its great. Digital squelch is an annoyance remover. As has been suggested, a 6-month or yearly account at readioreference.com and downloading the latest files assures your scanner is up to date with the seeming monthly changes. Pricey but well worth it to know whats going on in your city or town, especially with all the unrest and violence in 2020. Would buy again if I needed to.

Its a good scanner but I wasnt able to get it programmed so I returned it. Check around your area to see if anyone you know can help you if you have a problem like I did. Its not the scanners fault that I couldnt figure it out. The WX channel came in loud and clear. :) This was the best price that I could find.

If this is your first digital, pray for patience. I thought I was prepared. Had watched a lot of videos on programming but it still took a while. First just go ahead and pay the subscription for radio reference. Before you receive it, find free scan and the driver for the scanner. If after you install the driver the computer won’t recognize the the scanner. Turn the scanner off and back on. It’s funny how those few words took so long to to learn. The reason I gave it 5 stars for ease of use is because any frustration I was having was just because of inexperience. Now I love it. Now the filing system makes sense. When you first import from radio reference use your username and not your email. No when you import from the p25 system, to me it was messy. But it was working. So I took time and learned how to put together a more organized system. I like being able to record the feeds, and this past weekend while running the sound through the computer I was able to listen through Bluetooth. Hope this helps and hope y’all have a blessed day.

awesome scanner pain to set up and understand as a beginner but loads of fun you will want to throw this thing if you are new to scanners it takes patience to learn its a awesome scanner indeed it wasnt super hard to use freescan to program it ... the software makes it faster to program then the crazy menu but it can be programed either way side note youtube videos helpped me solve some of the hair pulling stress of it ... freescan is easy to use its the scanner controls that are a pain so far but takes time some stuff honestly isnt in the 100 or so page manual of the silly thing its ok though this is my first scanner and i managed to program trunked analog so far it took me 20minutes to do but im used to tinkering with hand held radios if your completely new to this just stick to the home patrol series of radios very simpler to program or pay to get it programed cause its complex comes with edacs free from uniden now i did a firmware update and it came free i read some were its free now so thats cool

Have one and bought one as gift. Good radios. Im barely scratching the surface regarding the use of all the features. I programmed both using FREESCAN and buying a short term subscription to RADIOREFERENCE. Just watch some tutorials on youtube and bookmark the ones that help you the most. When you read about these radios and they talk about trunking and other things you may not understand just look it up online to try to become familiar with those terms. Dont worry if you never quite understand those terms, you really dont have to and you can still program it by studying the youtube vids, as i said. Youll need a special cable to hook up to your computer. Dont buy a cheap immitation get the brand name. Poke around on amazon or online it will pop up for you.
