This is a very difficult scanner to program by hand (especially trunking) (TGIDS) without using a computer and you MUST use FreeScan software, but once it is set up, WOW! It is made very well with all metal casing and great sensitivity and audio. Just go onto YouTube and watch the videos showing how to use it and its features and benefits. Ill probably buy a Uniden external speaker even though it is being used as a base scanner as the only downfall is the speaker is underneath it. You can change the display colors, make it a red color for your most important frequency and MUCH more so read up on it prior to purchasing. Also, you can adjust the Digital P25 Threshold/P25 LP Filter in the menu settings. The Chicago Tribute had an article on this stating that the Bearcat BCD996P2 is the BEST scanner Uniden America Corporation has EVER manufactured! If anyone needs any help setting this up, or buying advise, please feel free to contact me here.

I gave the scanner 5 stars for easy to use but I warn you, I have been using scanners for 30+ years. If this is your first scanner, it may take a bit of time to get used to it. The days of crystals and two knobs is over. There are dozens of settings to use, many you will never touch. I think this is a great scanner for the price. If you are new to the hobby, give this scanner some time and you too will enjoy it.

NOT FOR A NOVICE. RECOMMEND HAVING THE PROS PROGRAM IT. I AM NOT TO THAT POINT YET. I AM FINDING IT IS NOT AS HARD AS SAID, IF YOU MESS UP, GO IN AND RESET TO START AND TRY AGAIN. MINE IS PULLING IN STATE POLICE FROM 150 MILES AWAY WITH A 30.00 OLD RADIO SHACK ANTENNA MADE FOR HIGH FREQUENCY. I RECOMMEND AN ANTENNA DESIGNED FOR DIGITAL SIGNAL. THEY ARE NOT THAT EXPENSIVE.

Box includes: Scanner, telescoping antenna, dc harness for direct wire, a.c. plug, car adapter plug, mounting bracket and instruction booklet. This is a great scanner does as advertised and more or less is equal to Amazon reviews, but.... FIRST!! This scanner WILL NOT play audio on fully encrypted systems at all... Period. You will see it key up but hear nothing. SECOND!! This scanner WILL NOT descamble or unencrypt a system. If you hear a static hum when a channels keys up then it is encrypted. There is no way to decode it. THIRD!! Does do ProVoice and DMR systems AFTER a PAID upgrade from Uniden. ProVoice is $45 and DMR is a whopping $60. Check the systems you will be using to see if any of this will apply to you. Best way is to use Radio Reference.com FOURTH!! PROGRAMING IS A PAIN IN THE ASS!!! Probably most important thing I can tell you and best advice I can give here would be pay for a Premium account on RadioReference.com. Your paying over $350.00 for a scanner it would be WELL worth it to fork out $15 more for 180 day subscription. This makes programing... better... still will take a while for most to figure out all the features like Systems, Groups, Channels and Quick Keys. The scanner comes with a usb programing cable. The reviews saying the speaker is low or muffled is accuratish. I think some reviews were a little harsh, but it could for sure be better. After all we are paying ALOT for this machine. I did order an external Uniden speaker for $16, 2 days After I got the scanner. Overall review is 5 stars. The updates, encryption and things mentioned above arent the scanners fault. Thats the Uniden company. This is as much machine as I need and I would recommend it to anyone. Im picking up transmissions from up to 60 miles away with the antenna that came with it. Im going to include a picture from the booklet showing trunking systems this will cover as well as a few more. !!REMEMBER!! CHECK THE SYSTEMS YOU ARE GOING TO SCAN TO SEE IF THEY ARE DMR OR ProVoice (expensive updates available) ALSO..IF ITS ENCRYPTED.. YOU WONT HEAR IT!!

The scanner is great, hard to program but with time can be figured out. Shipping was slow because when it got to my town it came thru the post office. they dont move fast even if they are on fire.

Could not keep my freq. when I turned off my scanner. Had to start all over. Very distressing and nerve racking.

Works very well, but you will probably need a professional to program it for you.

Thank you to Police Scanner Outlet first. I thought this was a fair price. I found it is a great price. I like this radio better than the ones with all the WIFI and SD card stuff. I had the BCD396xt and the BCD996xt and now I have the BCD996P2. It is running well. Our tower just changed to Phase 2. MPSCS So Im ready. The 996xt, 396xt, and 996P2 are very good radios. I compare them to the tip line. I also have RS651, PSR600, RS106 and others to compare them to. I had all I needed to start off running from Police-SCANNER-outlet. Get yours next. Thanks PSO. Oh Im a ham radio op. and I know the radios that get what I want to hear...New Radio Is Top Right

You can use the BCD325P2 to monitor police and fire departments (including rescue and paramedics), NOAA weather transmissions, business/industrial radio, utilities, marine and amateur (ham radio) bands, and air band transmissions. Features 25,000 dynamic channels.
