Double and triple check that the frequencies you are trying to Program are NOT ENCRYPTED!!! All of the digital frequencies that I paid over $150 to have programmed are absolutely useless because they are encrypted channels. Now I have a $500 analog paperweight sitting on the table next to me!! It took well over a month to get the scanner programmed so I was unable to submit this for a return within the 30 days allowed by Amazon. Caveat emptor

So I am a newbie to this hobby and decided to buy a scanner just to see what was going on whenever the city fire alarm goes off and to listen to police chatter in my free time. After a few days of research I settled on this model even though there were a lot of people saying it was extremely hard to program....Yes it is without help but I programmed all the local ones I needed thanks to a few you tube videos, freescan and radio reference . Took a few hours to learn how to block unwanted channels and other useful things but wasnt too bad. You can pretty much throw away the directions Uniden sent with it and just you tube or google everything. Product came early and as described.

When I got this I thought it would be hard to program, but with a little reading and trying ..... its pretty easy!!!!

Thi is a great scanner using to listed to Motorola Type 2 P25 systems. It takes some figuring out to program, but you can use FreeSCAN software and a standard USB cable to program.

Took watching a few videos for my husband to get the channels programmed, but the sound is great, and he enjoys hearing the calls as he works in the shop.

This is a great scanner after you figure out how to set it up. It comes with nothing programed in, so you either have to know how to do that or read and follow the owners manuel. Unless you have previous knowledge of these things, the owners manuel is like going to college after having failed high school. I figured out on my own , how to program freqencies I and got my frequencies from an old Radio Shack code book and by using Radioreference.com. You will need to use some thing. Five stars for sound.

The scanner is great, hard to program but with time can be figured out. Shipping was slow because when it got to my town it came thru the post office. they dont move fast even if they are on fire.

A strong addition to anyones scanner development program

While the product itself its top notch, it desperately needs to come with an available programming software. While there are free options this scanner will take hours to program even the simplest database without a bulk import. Very good for APCO but if you are looking to receive a simulcast system, buy a directional antenna or look elsewhere because it struggles with it. I am happy with the purchase but wanted to be blown away.
