> 24 hourMy least favorite sponge filter out of the 5-6 I have. I dont feel like this really traps anything or helps to filter my tank. I use it more as a bubbler for my gold fish. They seem to like to swim around, behind, and over this.

> 24 hourHeres where everyone else went wrong: 1) It collapsed when I put a powerhead on it. - Well of course it would, it isnt a coarse foam, its a very fine pore cell foam, and is made to work with an air line, not a power head. 2) It doesnt create any suction. - Wrong! I held it up with the tube just above the surface of the water, and water was pouring over the top of the tube, so... unless its a magic filter that created water from nothing, the water coming out MUST have been the water flowing through the foam. 3) It floats and I need to put a rock on it to hold it down. - Yeah, ahh, try squeezing the air out of it first, since you know, its a SPONGE. Squeezed mine til the bubbles stopped, and it sank like a lead weight. 4) A disaster. Will never filter properly with a reg air pump & design flaw causes back pressure that can burnout pump. - LOL, okay... Ive got mine on the cheapest possible Whisper pump, and it works fine. Not sure where your air flow engineering degree came from. 5) Only lasted less than 2 months. What a waste of money. - Considering that it probably takes that long to get a sponge filter seeded with bacteria and matured, yeah... 6) Killed my fish. - No, what killed your fish was that you relied on a brand new filter that had zero live bacteria living on it yet, and you didnt cycle your aquarium. It has to cycle. Learn about cycling. Google, Cycled aquarium before bashing a five dollar sponge filter. As to the bad reviews about missing parts, I cant speak on those... mine had a every part included. And, I have been using Jemco sponge filters for 20 years, so I was skeptical about these. I went with it because I use black sand and have a black background, and Jemcos are light gray. Only reason I switched. I will say they ARE loud since they have no airstone. My solution was to use a different air pump, which eliminated the resonant hum created by the strong one I had on there first. There is a video on youtube about modifying these to work with an airstone if you dont like the design. I may do this in the future, but I doubt it. Id rather sit back and enjoy watching my fish.

> 24 hourThe filter works fine and keeps my fishbowl water nice and clear. The only problem I have had with it is that when you put it into your tank it expands to about twice the stated size and therefore takes up a lot of room in my small tank. It works great though so I do recommend it.
