ZYLISS Right Scoop Gray

> 3 dayOverall this is a well designed and useful ice cream scoop. I purchased my scoop several years ago and, as others have noted, theres a serious material problem with the bowl of the scoop. We dont eat ice cream often, and Ive always hand-washed the scoop after use in warm water and mild dishwashing soap. Ive never soaked it. Yet, the finish on both the inside and outside of the scoop is bubbling up and flaking off. Aside from the cost of having to replace the scoop, theres the environmental impact of discarding a tool like this because Zyliss has an ongoing materials or manufacturing problem. Im thinking of shipping the scoop to them...perhaps that would get their attention.

Greater than one weekI have been scooping ice cream nearly every night for decades for somebody or other ..... Our family prefers very hard ice cream, but this scoop cuts through it very well. It seems like the head is too big for the handle, but thats part of the design. Bought this one for my elderly dad to make it easier for him as well.

> 3 dayI bought this as a Christmas gift for an ice cream loving friend who has Parkinson disease. The ease in removing frozen ice cream with this tool is amazing!!! It’s like a magic wand for ice cream...no having to wait for ice cream to soften, cleanup is a quick rinse because ice cream doesn’t stick...This tool is Brilliant!!!

22-11-2024Super cool for easy icecream dipping. Love the grip in the handle, no slipping when I use it. Caution: NEVER put it into the dishwasher or hot water!

> 3 dayMakes a decent size scoop. Easily digs into a frozen box of ice cream. This replaces one by the same maker that was probably 10 years old. I wont put this one in the dishwasher.

> 3 dayIve know Zyliss as a leading Swiss brand for cookware from when I was a kid growing up there. No doubt, the scoop is expertly engineered: its well balanced and decidedly solid to cut through the hardest ice cream, but the one I was provided was poorly manufactured. After a couple months small blisters and pitting started showing and now, a year on theyve grown to downright holes 2-3 mm (just under 1/8) in diameter. Its clear that the metal was cast too hot (hence the pitting) and an attempt to grind out the pits revealed that the stainless steel the scoop had been marketed as at the time was merely nickel-plated copper! Since the potential for copper oxides and food residue inside the holes represents a health hazard, the scoop has ended up in the Güsel, the Swiss-German word for the trash bin. Tsk, tsk, tsk, what leading Swiss household brands have come to!

Greater than one weekThis is a great ice cream scoop! Its on the heavy side but weighted so that works for you as you scoop. Digs into the ice cream with ease. I dont think this can go in the dishwasher but its so easy to clean that doesnt matter.
