    Greater than one week

Significantly lighter than the equivalent Kryptonite product, and for me, that was enough to warrant purchasing it. Further, significantly more Kryptonite reviewers noted problems with their locks getting jammed up and the key not turning in the lock, this despite application of lock appropriate lube. This happened with Abus users, but it was a lot less. This lock was made in Germany, the Kryptonite lock is made in China. To me, that says a lot about why there is a difference. Ive had this lock for about two days, so we will see how it goes. Lock was shipped quickly, and weirdly, there was no packing material in the box. Not that the lock really needed any, but still.

Expensive, but what a great lock. The key engages and turns like butter (important to me after replacing two cheaper u-locks, in two years, that the keys finally couldnt turn any more from binding-up). Ive had this lock for a year, in Seattle weather, commuting at least five days a week without interruption (all seasons) and the lock appears to be weather proof. Its heavy, coming in at about 3-1/4 lbs. for the 9 and 3-3/4 lbs. for the longer 11 model (I own both). But when you weigh 250 lbs., and ride steel frames, its less than 1% difference relative to the cheaper, dead, discarded u-locks Ive had. If youre riding carbon, and are skinny, well, I cant imagine you would want this lock stealing back all the reduction in weight youre enjoying. This does not come with the frame mount, bought it separately (about $25). It, too, is excellent, no rattling, easy to remove and return to the mount. The locks square shackle, hopefully, means that anyone using a power cutting wheel would have to make two cuts, because the shackle does not twist in the lock like round shackles can. The shackle feels stiff/strong enough that a thief would be hard-pressed to bend the shackle after a single cut.

I am editing my review after contacting DealExperts about the issue. As you can read in my original post, I had some issues with this lock, which was very confusing, as Abus is a top-notch brand and this is one of the best locks on the market. After my beloved bike Peaches was stolen in downtown L.A., I couldnt handle another loss. Im a full-time student with 3 jobs; my friends kindly kicked in for a new bike, but it fell to me to pick out a lock. After struggling with the lock for 2 months and juggling all my jobs/school, I reached out to Amazon customer service. They said it was out of the return window timeframe and referred me to the dealer. The dealer said it was outside the return window timeframe and referred me to Amazon C.S. I went back to DealExperts and BEGGED THEM TO TAKE PITY ON ME, as Im a student with one only way to get around, my bike. For good measure, I wrote this bad review. DealExperts responded immediately with a return auth for me to give to Amazon C.S., and after a lengthy phone call with Amazon, they shipped me a new lock and it arrived in 24 hours! I still need to send the defective one back, but I just need to print the label, which is free. Im super relieved and happy. The new lock works like a dream. I would definitely do business with DealExperts again. Original Post-I was so excited about this lock. I researched extensively and decided on this one, as its as close to top of the line as it gets. But, the key has been stiff in the lock. I ride EVERY day, so this became a thing pretty quickly. I thought, NBD, its new, just needs some use. Nope. Its been 2 months, and I still have to attempt to lock it 8,9,10 times EVERY time. I try turning it around, I try wiggling. I tried bike lube. I tried everything! Now Im not sure what to do. Everything else about it is amazing. :(

This is a very solid lock and very heavy but it lasted only one time and the lock got unrepairable stuck thank god we were;t out riding as getting this off at a bike stand would have been quite challenging. I heard great things about ABUS but for the price this was a major disappointment.

Looks strong and is heavy. Should slow down the most determined thief. Did not use the mounting bracket though it worked fine.

Yeah, engineers in most countries would say the Abus is overbuilt... and maybe too heavy. True, quality, long life and functionality under adverse conditions has a price. For instance, read the review on the other leading company (the one whose name reminds you of the rock that weakens Superman) and youll find sometimes the lock wont open when it gets wet - BUMMER! Even my secondary U Lock (SIGTUNA) has a slide cover to prevent it from allowing water and debris to enter, while the design of the Abus apparently doesnt need it for years of use by others. And the Abus length is perfect - its 11.6 inches, compared to 8.3 inches on the SIGTUNA so often you have to settle for a less secure method to use the provided cable which can be cut with a bolt cutter. Then again, even if you only get a 2 foot ABUS chain it add almost another 4 pounds, so first ask yourself if you really need to carry 8 pounds of security versus 3.6 pounds for the SIGTUNA and half the price.

It may be expensive, but so far totally worth it. Locks and unlocks like butter. Very sturdy. The holder it comes with to attach it to your bike frame is an awesome addition

I have been very happy with it so far. I have a hard time understanding why a person would want the 12 version unless locking multiple bikes though.

I dont know what is going on with Amazon these days, QC is in the toilet. Seems like 30% or more of my purchases need to be returned, either because they are more than lightly used, damaged, or just poor quality. I got this lock and it was obviously used, and quite damaged. I returned it immediately, of course, and ended up buying one (for full retail, quite a bit more expensive, like an extra $75) at a local bike shop, which carried Abus, but had to order this model. I guess I could have reordered one and hoped it worked out the second time, but I lost patience. The lock itself is great, probably the best U-lock made, period, but certainly the best at this weight. No bolt cutter is going to get through this thing. Of course, thieves in big cities use angle grinders, which will cut through this, but at least it will take a few minutes and make a bunch of noise. I would give 5 stars for the lock, and 1 star for the terrible amazon experience - and I am getting so sick of getting used and damaged stuff, or the wrong product from amazon I have started looking for stuff at brick and mortar stores again, and would rather pay the premium then have to keep returning things to Amazon, or trying to fix things myself. On-Guard makes great locks also, and Kryptonite makes one equal to this (but thicker - 14mm vs 13mm - and heavier, though a bit less expensive) as well as the NY line, which is even tougher, but at 16mm, very, very heavy. I also have an Abus 9mm hardened steel chain lock, which I really like. I use either the chain or the U-lock with a cable to secure the other wheel (although cables are easy to cut, seems hardly worth it to a thief just for a wheel set, but I guess on a slow day, they will do it).
