Surprisingly quick. I upgraded the ram to 8 GB using Crucial RAM 4GB DDR4 2400 MHz CL17 Laptop Memory CT4G4SFS824A. You could upgrade to more ram but youd lose the dual channel benefit and this isnt a gaming laptop for us. That said, you really dont have to. I noticed no differences after upgrading and youre really only getting 2 GB of useable ram by adding another 4 GB stick. The GPU uses the other two. This is a great PC out of the box even on 4 GB of ram.

While I don’t love that the microphone stopped working 3 months in, I am impressed with the repair process. I had to mail it back to Acer, which was a $40 pain in the butt, but I received notification as soon as they got. Even more impressive, I was notified a few hours later that it was repaired and on its way back! I’m hoping there won’t be any additional issues that require another update to the review. For now I’ve revised my rating from 1 star to 4. (Having to use my old laptop for a week or so made me appreciate this one even more!

If you have a new college student, and you are on a budget, this is a good entry laptop that will do what they need for college. Its not powerful enough to do high end graphics or gaming, but you can play some Fortnite on low settings just fine, as well as some basic Photoshop editing.

As some of the other reviews have mentioned, the laptop is very loud - opening a browser, loud; opening Word or PowerPoint, loud; simply on the home screen; loud. It may not be every unit, but it does appear to be a common defect. My laptop was also crooked; on a level surface, it would tilt to one side. It also kept restarting randomly. I drew the short straw to be sure. Amazon (who was the direct seller for this unit) was particularly, and in fairness uncharacteristically unhelpful. They gave me two options to return it: either a UPS pick-up, which doesnt work in my apartment building (the UPS person wont be able to get up to my apartment) or I could pay out of my own pocket to return the defective item. I contacted Amazon consumer service to see if I could get another option (e.g., providing me a label), and the agent just kept repeating those two options over and over again. Incidentally, in the Ill Ship It Myself option, Amazon would refund me up to $3.99 for the turn. Purchasing the label to return it myself cost me almost $20. Is that a lot of money? No. But, within the context of this purchase, it was upsetting. It cemented an already poor experience. Mostly though I write this review so that others who are thinking about buying it can know ahead of time that, if their unit is defective, they may likewise need to go out of pocket to return it.

This laptop comes with a kit to add an additional SSD or HDD, but the connection socket for the cable will not lock on, making installation impossible. This same issue was present in the first PC I ordered and the replacement I received as well. Poor quality components make for nonfunctional equipment and unhappy customers. Advise you stay far away from this one.

Fan is the loudest laptop fan Ive ever heard. This apperntly is is known and I should have researched more. I used it 4 times for basic set up and web. Completely shut off for a whole day on me within a week. Amazon support told me to call acer. Problem fixed it self. Now the screen Completely went blank. 36 days after purchase. No games and no extra downloads. I turned it on and payed bills. Dont buy it!

I bought to use for research seems to work well. no problems setting it up. I did notice the battery is short lived while working it could last longer . When I received the computer there was no charging cable I contacted Acer and they sent one which was here in 2 days. All in all not a bad laptop. I think my next laptop will be a different brand. For what I use it for its ok.
