Title: Acer Aspire 5 A515-56-36UT: Great Performance with Slight Screen Glare

It does suit me well for basic internet needs and FoE . Screen quality nice for a cheaper model, it does what I need it to do.

I figured 4GB of RAM would be sufficient just for day to day use. I was a bit disappointed in 128GB of storage and decided that even though it was a really nice machine for the price, for another $80 and change I could really make it fly.. if you look at my photos you can see that theres built in space for a 2.5 in SATA drive. In addition there is room to add memory and I decided to add another 8GB of RAM along with the SATA drive and 480 GB of storage. Obviously it makes a huge difference. If you look at the pictures I posted you can see that the Acer storage is depleted by half as soon as you turn the machine on. The Steve drive is the one that I installed. Plenty of storage now. The circled in red photo shows the increase in RAM... WHEN LOOKING FOR INSTRUCTIONS be aware that this model came out back in May of this year. There are very few instructional videos or written pieces to explain where this memory goes. The SATA drive is pretty self-explanatory. The only video I could find with this particular machine is provided by a user whose name is.  @Silicon Edge  you have to go to YouTube and search that name. I dont believe Amazon would allow me to post a link. Its not in English but all you have to do is watch his hands. If you try other videos you might think its the machine youve bought until you open the back of yours and you look at the back of theirs and realize that its different. I highly recommend temporarily taking out the screw on your right side of the battery to secure the ribbon clip. Then just readjust the battery and put the screw back in. Watch the video youll know exactly what I mean. I love this computer. For $460 including the new ram I upgraded this machine. It would have cost me way more than that to buy it with that memory and that storage from scratch. Quick PS. I bought an HP 27 inch monitor here on Amazon and created a nice little setup. $169. Youll love the machine Dont think twice just buy it. If you want some speed, I mean real speed just upgrade the RAM and the storage. I used crucial. Thats the brand name for the SATA and the RAM..... READ ABOUT THE UPGRADES..... You dont want to perform Overkill. The processor wasnt made for it. Im no techie so I did a lot of reading before I did this.

Screen would not turn on after sleep mode

The computer was wonky from the start as the new operating system requires you to use your hotmail or other Microsoft email to login and get the thing going. And from there it’s all down hill. I tried to use Google Chrome which worked better than the windows browser but eventually even that failed. Setting up email on this thing was a nightmare and it really cannot handle office 360. I think the issue is this computer us but made to run Windows 11. This when I went back to reset the computer to factory settings the computer went into an infinity loop of death. The computer is a useless paperweight that uses up electricity and gets warm. It might be a fire hazard. Called customer service x2. Did not get much help. Even when they finally said they’d send out a slip to mail it back to fix it, I never got anything in my email on it or by postal mail. It’s been another month of waiting and now it’s too late to send back to Amazon for a refund. So Acer is all I can deal with. And they are not aces. They are more like something else that starts with an a…. Buyer beware. Doc Jim.

It was a real challenge to change from the Edge browser to Google Chrome and I had to call ACER support to accomplish it. But that probably had more to do with my own ignorance than anything else. Ive had this new laptop for only a few days & so far I like it, but I wish the keyboard would light up the way my old ACER keyboard did. Other than that, Im satisfied with this Aspire 5.

This Acer Aspire 5 A515-56-36UT has some major flaws. First of all it does have FHD 1080p screen, but has a very narrow viewing angle. You must have the screen at exactly the right angle in front of you to see the colors properly. Secondly, it has NO indicator that the caps lock is on. Thirdly, the charging and power on lights are on the side and can not be seen when normally using the laptop, thus when hitting the power button you have no idea if it is on or not! Also there is no indicator that the num lock is on. Finally, it is difficult to open the lid. Personally, I feel that Acer chinsed out on this laptop and I would not recommend it.

After 5 months it overheated and died back of this laptop hot over 130 degrees
