    Not too bad on accuracy

Im on my 2nd replacement, and found that I get about 2 years out of each one. They seem to work well and be fairly accurate, except for very high, low, or rapidly changing humidity. I have them outside, protected from direct sun, rain, and strong winds, but I have a hunch that condensing humidity eventually degrades the circuits inside (though there isnt obvious corrosion). They end up in the trash when it drops below freezing and they start giving erratic measurements and eventually stop transmitting. They may actually enter some sort of error/failure mode since the main circuit board and the transmitter still have power but it doesnt transmit, or maybe Im giving it too much credit. At any rate, as built they are disposable, so expect to need replacements if they are in harsh environments. I plan to apply conformal coating to the circuit boards of my new one and see if that extends its life.

The AcuRite temperature sensor is the weak point in their Backyard Weather Max/min Thermometer. I bought a Backyard Weather Max/min Thermometer that worked fine for about a year and then the sensor failed. A neighbor had the same experience. Both our sensors were on north facing walls under porches and so did not get direct sun nor direct rain. But they are used in Florida so are subject to humidity. I could not replace the sensor at my local big box store and so I replaced the whole thermometer. I still have the display in its original packaging as I am using the original in house digital display. The second sensor again worked for about a year but then failed. It still sends signals regularly but it now reports outside temperatures of 150-160F when it is actually 85-90F. Not wanting to purchase yet another full Backyard Weather Max/min Thermometer when I have two in house digital display systems, I turned to Amazon and found I could buy the AcuRite outdoor temperature sensor. Unfortunately, the first sensor I purchased was faulty and did not function! Amazon refunded the purchase price and I bought another sensor--that works! I will come back to this review when the sensor fails. But actually there is no other make of outdoor max/min temperature with wireless connection to an indoor display that I can find as an alternative. I am updating this review immediately, as the new sensor wireless signal is not as powerful as the original ones were. I cannot maintain contact between the outside sensor and the display unit on a dresser near my dining room. I have had to put the display unit on the inside of the wall that that the sensor is hung on. I cannot see it form my kitchen or dining room and so that is not as convenient as it was before. Second update: the sensor appeared to fail after one week and so I took the advice from Rachel at AcuRite Customer Loyalty and called in to them. They took me through all the steps -- taking out batteries and replacing them, including on the display. It turns out my display has developed problems. I still have the second display from the full Backyard Weather Thermometer that I bought a year ago. It is now connected to the sensor and all is working well. My display is back on the cabinet in my diningroom, and reflecting the correct 90F temperature out side and correct 82F inside temperature

Outdoor temperature only lasted about a year before it stopped working

I was very happy that we could replace the outside portion of our thermometer which had rusted without buying a new inside unit. It works like new again.

This was a replacement sensor that was about over ten years old. I went to the AcuRite website via their Amazon store and easily found the sensor that would work for my Thermometer. There are different options so be careful when choosing as not all sensors work with all there thermometers or weather stations. I put two batteries in my new sensor and it worked like a charm.

This worked well with the indoor unit I purchased six years ago. I had placed the original outdoor sensor in a location that was not protected from weather so it needed to be replaced. My bad but nice to have it working again.

I got three of these in a set with a display four years ago. One of them stopped working correctly, so I had to buy a replacement. I know electronics dont last forever, but four years seems kind of short.

After I contacted acurite to verify that this 06009RMA1 Replacement Temperature Sensor was the correct one. I decided to purchase the used one and saved a few dollars. Why not? as the warranty and return policy are the same. It started sending as soon as I put the batteries in it. hopefully it will continue for a few years like the last one. Although the original was kept completely out of the rain and sun. I noticed considerable corrosion on the battery terminal (one). The circuits on the inside of the unit appeared to be fine....perfect actually. I cant say if the battery terminal was the reason for the failure but that is what I believe. It looked to be of stainless steel construction yet it had severe corrosion.
