> 3 dayThese sponges never have anything on them that indicates that they have any sort of suction towards the middle. Seems like its just the airline bubbling, and that the sponge itself (which is giant) doesnt do much. For example, if a leaf comes off of one of my plants, it will float around and then get stuck to the intake sponge for my HOB filter. Not once have I ever seen a leaf or other debris stuck to the sides of these filters. My air pump is plenty strong enough to induce the suction. So, I think that the design of these, perhaps the thickness and density of the foam, makes it so that it doesnt actually create suction. Im going to rotate these out for another brand as soon as Im confident that my tank is stable enough in terms of its beneficial bacteria. Would not recommend. (Also many people have given it 5 stars with an airstone added - but in my book, something that needs modification in order to function cannot be worthy of 5 stars! The modification is not just adding an airstone, but involves cutting plastic off of the filter and then adding an airstone. No product that needs hacking is worth 5 stars.)

> 3 dayDont know how well they will perform. They float more than any other sponge filter Ive owned. Took all night to sink with a rock sitting on it, even after squeezing all the air out of it.

> 3 dayThey are bigger than expected, but thats not a bad thing. The only con I can see is I havent figured out how to use a air stone with them to lessen the noise of bubbling.

> 3 dayThese have been in my tank for several days now. Any debris that happens to go near them just floats on past. There is no draw to them. I have them each with their own air pump and still nothing.

Greater than one weekThese are working well so far. I may modify them in the future though. First off, I cleaned and soaked them in warm water for 24hrs just in case to remove any manufacturing residues from them as you should any product, but especially so aquatic pet products. After that inoculated them with proper nitrifying bacteria and put them into service. The only down side so far is that the air release holes at the bottom of the air tube are so small salts in the aquarium accumulate relatively quickly and reduce air flow, which causes cleaning in my case in as little as couple weeks. I may start by open the holes a bit to lengthen the air flow time frame (note this salt issue is normal and not because of the filter itself.). Secondly I may do the “air stone mod” (look it up online) to these filters just to simplify efficiency and slightly quiet them. Although personally for me they are not loud at all. They have been in use for few weeks now and have NOT killed any fish or other craziness others have mentioned, but again I take steps to reduce issues in the first place.
