Headphones good, case superfluous. These are not as great as the MDRs in terms of frequency response but detachable cables, comparable price, and not having to deal with the 6 ft. telephone coil of the Sonys is worth it to me.

I admit it. I have an addiction to headphones. I already have a bunch so didnt need the Audio-Technica but whats one more pair right? This headset is deserving of the praise it has gotten. It is well balanced and for me, being a bass-oholic, it has enough to keep me satisfied. I do think the sound is rather sterile though, lacking the warm of my current fav, the V-Moda Crossfade M-100. Still, the sound is exemplary. All headphones have their own sound signatures--doesnt make them any better or worse. Buy what you like. As for build quality, the mostly plastic construction isnt as rugged to me as Beyer or V-Moda but should stand up to the years of wear. Recommended!

The Audio-Technica M50x has a cult following at this point and is without a doubt my go to headphones for under $200. The M50xs are the successor to the popular M50s and are worth the upgrade. One of the pleasant new changes to the M50X is the removable cord which means if your cord breaks you can swap it out with ease. Inside the box you get 3 cables, one coiled, one long and straight and one short cable. All the cables allow you to add the included quarter inch headphone adapter should you need it. These headphones fold up for easy storage and were not to heavy for me at all. The sound profile is the same as the M50s so nothing new there but they are still fantastic for Critical listening or just enjoying music on your phone. The M50X has a little bit more bass than its cheaper little brother the M40Xs and personally I think thats great. These headphones are better and cheaper than Beats by Dre. If you couldnt tell I love the M50Xs but if i had to find something wrong with them then it would probably be the ear pads. The leather made my ears sweat after extended use but after buying some velour ear pads this became a seat of heavenly headphones.
