Went to bed the other night and sometime before dawn, we ran out of propane in the big white tank out back. This led to issues cooking breakfast and making coffee the next morning. We have one burner on the stove that takes a bit to light and for some reason, it seems more difficult after we run out of fuel and have to get it refilled. By dinnertime, the tank had been refilled, the furnace was kicking out hot air and we were off to the races (not literally) once again. That igniter on the stove decided not to ignite the flame and so we were off in search of a match or a lighter. For some odd reason neither a wood match nor a bic lighter could be found... and we looked everywhere. Id finally had enough and decided to break out the ferro rod. I turned that stove knob to high, pointed my little grey rod at the burner and gave it a good spark. WHOOSH! ..... Stoves Lit!... Who said you cant use your camping equipment at home? Guess Im getting a Ferro Rod for the kitchen now too.

I’m a great granny and love these because they are long enough to get a good spark and easy to use. That’s important with my arthritis 74 year old hands. Would definitely buy again.

Like the size and length of the rod. Use in bush craft fire kit

Big enough to hold easily and makes a good shower of sparks.

Started a fire with it. First I tried using the back edge of a Swedish Morakniv blade. Carbon steel. Couldnt raise a single spark. Went to my Spyderco stainless steel blades. One is made of CPM S110V, a super steel. The other is VG-10, a stainless popular in cutlery. The VG-10 threw the best sparks, and started the fire. The CPM S110V is indeed super from the edge retention standpoint. Less so as a fire starter. VG-10 is an excellent steel, and will be my go to stuff if I have to start a fire in an emergency.
