Way better then the cheapo hardware store version it replaces. A bit tricky to set up - as described in other reviews, but once that is out of the way, its easy to use. I do have to refresh my memory when I pull it out for a job if I havent used it in awhile.

wish the temperature was adjustable by knob rather than buttons. also wish the display showed current temperature. once its warmed up, it only shows the setpoint. Opposite of a Weller.

Great soldering station but made way more complicated to operate than need be thanks to the improved digital version of the far more user friendly analog station it replaced. Plan on visiting YouTube if you want to know how to use it... the included manual is near useless without doing so.

I got a project kit that required quite a bit of soldering so I wanted to get something a step up from the basic soldering pen that plugs directly into the outlet. I was looking at the bargain models and some of the reviews had me questioning them. The Weller model was the next level up and seemed decent enough. I saw some battery powered ones and was reading reviews of those on eham.net which I hadnt thought of checking out but is a perfect place for reviews of this type of equipment. They had negative reviews of the handheld ones I was looking at, but there also was this Hakko brand I was not familiar with. So I went back and searched for Hakko soldering irons and this station came up with great reviews. It turned out it was also reccomended on a youtube electrical engineering blog I follow in their video covering some basic equipment for beginners. I have also seen dissections of the components and Hakko is top notch. Some of the cheaper knock offs are poorly made inside and out with parts that look re-purposed or old. Blah blah blah, thats the story on how I found this soldering station. Now I will just list what I like about it: -Very well built inside and out. Nice heavy base for its size. -Great design with small footprint -Comes with both the sponge and cleaning wire (and the cleaning wire works amazingly) -Digital readout lets you know the temperature and you can see it as it warms up -Comes with a small chisel tip which worked out fine (Other brands often come with a conical tip) -This particular bundle comes with a nice cutter -The pen has a comfortable grip

I cant say enough about this soldering station. Well worth the money. I have never soldered something so easy. It heats up in seconds. Great product.

Heats up quickly, holds its temperature well. The digital read out is nice, and its easy to use and set. Would have liked for it to come with a slightly smaller tip since I use this mainly for electronics, but its not overly large and you get replacement tips.

I ordered the X-TRONIC MODEL #4010-XTS - 4000 SERIES from Amazon and when it came I was disappointed in how it felt and looked. It felt very toyish. The price on the X-Tronic was only 2.00 less than the Hakko so I immediately ordered the Hakko. It has a very solid quality feel and I put it to use today and was impressed. The cable to the iron is nice and flexible with no stiffness. It goes to temperature very quickly and changes just as quickly. The user interface is not what I would call intuitive and the instructions make it seem to be worse than it is. For my use it is easy enough to set the temp . Just hold the enter for a second until the 1st digit starts blinking and scroll up with the up button. When the first digit is set hit the enter button to set the 2nd digit and then go on to the third. It is just like setting a digital watch or other device. 99% of users will not need to know any more than that. When you turn it on it goes to the temperature you last used; a feature I really like. Some have complained that it doesnt idle down when unused but I like knowing it is ready to go as soon as I take the iron out of the holder. The X-Tronic included a cheap plastic stand that was light and could easily be knocked over. The Hakko stand is all metal and heavy. I do wish they included a few extra tips but Im going to buy a small conicaal tip and a larger wedge tip. The included 1.6 wedge tip is a good general purpose tip. For 91 bucks this as a great buy and a quality product.

This is the best soldering iron I have ever used and Ive owned many cheap ones in the last 40 plus years. I finally decided to put the money in this unit in hopes of never having to buy another one! I work on guitars and amps and HiFi gear and well, the short time Ive had it, Ive been extremely pleased with it and my soldering skills have increased exponentially because of the quality of this iron and tip. If you are tired of the results youre getting, even though you know how to solder, then I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to get the professional results they should be getting! Its a real joy to use this solder station! It heats up really quick and its easy to change temps if you need to. I have not used any of the presets yet but have lowered the temp some for certain jobs and it will come down very fast and go back up to the temp I select. Dont hesitate to get this station if you are considering it! As I am, youll be very glad you did!
