Crucial MX300 750GB SATA 2.5 Inch Internal Solid State Drive - CT750MX300SSD1

I installed this in my HP laptop after getting a Windows message that my hard drive was failing. Using the recommended software for cloning I transferred the files and installed the new drive. Hurray! It booted up and worked normally with all my programs and files in place and operative.

I bought one of these to upgrade my mid 2010 MacBook Pro. I had previously replace the original hard drive with a 750GB drive, but the system was getting slower with each successive release of the Mac OS. I was concerned when I first got this drive because there were no instructions except for a web link to a utility that runs on windows. So I clicked on the chat button of the Crucial web site and was promptly greeted by an agent who gave me the link for instructions on a Mac. I had already upgraded to El Capitan and the instructions for installation did not require any third party software, only the Mac disk utility. I used an external drive case to connect the new drive to my Mac (the one I got for my earlier disk upgrade) and cloned my hard drive to the Crucial SSD. This took quite something like 8 hours due to the disk size and the relatively slow USB connection, so I was a bit worried about how the SSD would perform once I installed in my MacBook. My worries were unfounded; my system works really well and boots up in a fraction of the time it used to. Almost everything runs much faster and the computer feels like new once again. The only glitch Ive had so far is that my Microsoft Office 11 software decided it was on a new machine and demanded that I enter the license number before I could use it. Fortunately, I save the original disks and packaging, so it all worked well (and quickly) after I entered the license number. I like this upgrade so much I will get another for my wifes Macbook Pro and also for my Mac mini.

0-100 real Quick. My laptop would take literally 5 minutes to boot. Thats just to boot. Then loading programs or other things would take for ever. I was looking into buying a new laptop but Im glad I did some research first. My laptop now takes literally 5 seconds to boot. I dont do anything fancy with computers so glad I didnt have to spend on new one.

Excellent drive. Got it for an extreme deal on Black Friday for $99. Couldnt be happier. I use it for games as a secondary drive in my PC. Speeds are to be expected from a tier 2 brand of SSDs but its still light years above HDD.

Good price, and it was easy to clone over to from my old Mac Book Pro drive -- and so far its functioned perfectly (and no real concerns about that; Crucial Technology is known for the excellent, long-lasting quality of its products).

I bought two of these drives on Black Friday and Ive noticed the same new issue in both of my computers that I put these in. Occasionally (it seems to be random), the computer will just completely lock up for 10-15 seconds. It doesnt happen very often, but it happens enough to be noticeable. Probably three times a day at most. It seems that theres some sort of issue with the interface on these drives between the computer and the addressable space. I didnt think it was possible for drive IO interrupts to cause this sort of complete hanging of the operating system, so I switched this drive out with my old one for a week to see if the problem persisted. It didnt, so its definitely caused by this drive. Im guessing its a bug in the firmware that comes on the drive, but Im not sure it can be fixed with an update. Hopefully so. Ill update this if anything changes. Other than that, it works fine, its definitely an upgrade over a disk drive.

Wonderful drive. Installation and loading windows took me only 1 hour total. For $180, my laptop has a SSD and is like new again. This is not 750GB. This is 749,629,075,454 bytes or 698GB. Reduced 1 star because of the 698 GB vs promised 750GB

Used it as a replacement for my 500GB Dell laptop OEM HD and have loved it since. Did have a little problem transferring cloning the original HD onto it but overcame that easily. Boot up time is fast and obviously file access is equally rapid. I dont have any benchmark studies but am completely satisfied with its performance. Virus scans provide the most extreme example of the speed gains with a SSD. The Quick Scan for Microsoft Defender virus check is so fast I was completely caught off guard when it flashed complete. The original OEM HD was no slouch but this is in a class by itself. Not quite instantaneous in loading files and programs but fast enough to satisfy me for a relatively modest investment.

I decided to purchase this new Crucial MX300 750GB to replace my aging 250GB Samsung 840 EVO as my Windows 10 boot drive in my desktop computer. I have previously used Crucials 64GB C300 series as well as their 1TB MX200 series SSDs and I always choose them for their performance, reliability, and longevity. Crucial states that this drive should be able to sustain up to 220TB of writes, as it contains Microns latest 3D NAND technology. Its capable of reaching speeds of up to 530MB/sec read and 510MB/sec write, and I was able to get these speeds with Crystal DiskMark. The screenshot I have attached shows how much more of an improvement you get when you enable Momentum Cache, which is similar to Samsungs RAPID mode. This increases the endurance of the SSD by allowing the DRAM to absorb the random writes, as they tend to wear out the NAND cells faster than sequential writes. Crucial recommends that you only enable momentum cache for the SSD if you are in fact using it as your boot drive. This drive would also be ideal for use in laptops because of its incredibly low power draw of 0.075W of power. It certainly may extend your laptops battery life over a traditional 5400rpm or 7200rpm drive, but the difference will likely be subtle. I would say maybe an hour longer? (just guestimating) Still, I am glad to see Crucial finally releasing some software (Crucial Executive Storage Client) to compete with Samsungs excellent Magician software. You must download this from Crucials website if you wish to enable their Momentum Cache for better performance. Its not quite as much of a standalone program as Magician, as it uses your web browser to configure your drive, but it has all of the most important information you need about your SSD, as well as the ability to easily update your firmware. I used it to update the firmware of my 1TB MX200 since the MX300 was already on its latest, being a brand new SSD at the time of this review. If you are looking for a brand new SSD to replace the hard drive in your laptop, or to use as a Windows boot drive, look no further. The 750GB MX300 gives you a bit more bang for your buck than either a 500GB SSD or a 1TB SSD, so it really hits the sweet spot in price per gigabyte, and it should have no problem lasting you for several years of use. You will likely end up upgrading this drive long before it ever actually wears out. My only complaint is that the Acronis True Image HD 2015 software that comes with this SSD would not allow me to resize my Windows partition from my old 250GB drive when I tried to clone it. I also tried using EaseUs Todo Backup as well as Macrium Reflect to no avail. It was likely due the Windows-created 450MB recovery partition that was positioned directly after my main Windows partition. I ended up doing a fresh install, which was probably for the best, as I originally had Windows 7 on my desktop computer before upgrading to Windows 8, 8.1, and then finally Windows 10.

Got this on a $99 promo over Xmas. Not as fast as an Intel, but faster than the Samsung Im running in a different PC. Overall excellent value and performance. My third Crucial/Micron SSD, also have a fourth en route so I can complete the process of switching all 5 of my networked PCs over to SSDs. Bye bye, mechanical HDDs.
