Never bought these socks before, but tried these because of the reviews. My husband was needing some new wool socks so I ordered these. He wears 11.5 or 12 so I ordered the XL and they worked great. He said they were comfortable and soft. He had foot surgery in the spring and they did not bother that area whatsoever. Dont know about how long they will last, but they are tightly woven which is a big plus for the durability and support they offer.

Ive bought multiple pairs of Darn Tough socks; always happy with their fit, thickness and wear over time

Hate to be harsh on these because I really wanted to like these, and they were comfortable when I put them on my feet. After hearing about these socks from a friend I took the bait and ordered a pair about 10 days ago and was eager to try them out. I wore them twice on short hikes (less than 4 miles each) and washed them on gentle cycle and hung them to dry after each wearing. This is the same procedure Ive used for countless other socks from many brands over the last few decades. Some of the socks Ive owned have lasted so long Ive worn through the heel after many, many wearings, but Ive never seen a sock just start to come apart like these have in such a short period of time. In fact, Ive never actually seen a sock come apart like this at all. The foot and ankle areas are pilled to an extreme Ive never seen before. This started with the first wash and became much worse on the second wash. There is also a hole that has now started on the seam of of one of the socks in the toe area. You can see both issues in the attached pictures, some of which also show the Darn Tough socks next to a pair of Smartwool socks (that have been worn and washed probably 30-40 times) and a pair of Wigwam socks (that have probably been worn/washed at least as many times as the Smartwool socks). All 3 brands of socks shown have been washed in my home washing machine and hung to dry, never in a clothes dryer, so we know the issue isnt the washing machine. To make matters worse, I contacted Darn Tough through their website, and they will accept them back to review/replace them but heres the catch: I have to pay $$ out of my pocket to send them. In the end, these are going back to Amazon where thankfully I dont have to pay my hard-earned cash to send back a defective product, only to have them replaced with another pair (this could start a vicious cycle of returning/accepting back a litany of bad products, all to be replaced at my expense in shipping them back each time). Darn Tough, a warranty isnt worth diddly if I have to spend $ to replace them. Just ask for a receipt and pictures and either send a new pair or refund a customers $ and let them be on their way. Ill just take my $ and buy another brand, any brand it seems, as Ive never had this problem before.

Second pair purchased. Hopefully my wife wont steal these for her cold feet like the last pair!

I got them for my husband who wears a 15 4E. The wool is soft and the cushion goes all the way NEAR the top. He told me to return them though because the top around calf muscle is extremely snug and bottom is made for someone with a narrow foot.

the socks seem to run small-- IMO. they are thin -- IMO I wore them to an outside sporting event with my hiking boots-- 40f -- the only part of me cold at the end were my feet for the money-- not worth it. With so many choices why buy these? I do like the color/pattern

Well constructed hiking sock. Breathes well and keeps moisture away from the foot. I could have used some heel cushioning.

Ditch your cotton socks and I wear wool all year long. I simply choose the proper weight of wool for the season.

These are terrific socks and a fair price! They are warm and comfortable and will be great for kayaking.
