Darn Tough Merino Wool Boot Sock Full Cushion

Greater than one weekChecking my order date, it has been 4 years since I purchased these socks, along with some Thorlo wool/silk hike socks for comparison. Both socks were put in my daily rotation, as well as taken on every hike (a few times a year) and bit of travel. While this sock is still alive today, it definitely has some wear spots that have gotten thin enough for me to want to replace it. Its commendable that theyve lasted this long I suppose, and in a vaccum I may have given an amazing review, if not for the Thorlos having stood up to the same test far better (Ill leave a review for that as well if you care on the Thorlo page). The socks are comfortable, but not quite as plush as most other wool brands. At first, I thought this must be due to some special blend that made them tougher, after all, they are called Darn Tough (awesome name, clearly selling well because of that). In practice though, they were no tougher than any other wool sock Ive owned--actually, they are on the weaker side of the wool socks I own, and more expensive to boot. One advantage to being less plush is that they do feel more seated in the shoe (though that can be fixed by tightening laces). Ultimately, these are pretty good socks. But for me, they fell short to a superior sock. After 4 years, Im looking to add a new contender to the mix, and match it to the current champion: the Thorlo. In another 4 years I may have something different to say.

> 3 dayLet’s me break this down Barney style! These socks are not your typical around your house socks. The monument you insert your foot into these socks you change your life for the better. You become darn tough! They make you want to go hike up a mountain in the middle of a snow storm, complete the Baja 1000, shoot even go walk on the moon. (*Your experience may very) These socks fit like a glove but for your feet! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

> 3 dayAs an outdoorsman and quality sock enthusiast, these socks have converted me from a Smart-Wool fan, these are the best socks Ive tried. I have a cold flooring, and usually need to wear house slippers in the winter, but not with these!

> 3 dayFirst off - the socks: I used to go through socks like bathwater. Cotton, wool, smartwool, cheap, expensive, etc... None seemed to stand up to the wear and tear of long days in steel-toed boots, and most were wet, itchy or both by the end of the day. I had resigned myself to buying socks every month and having uncomfortable feet. Enter these socks: at first the price seemed a bit much, but two weeks with one pair and I knew I needed three more. They keep my feet dry and at a good temp, whether at 3am in the winter or 3 pm in the summer (I work in the mountains of southern AZ). And after almost two years of use and washing, they still retain their original cushion and loft, and havent shown any signs of real wear.. just minor fuzziness. Second: Darn Good Customer Service. To my intense sadness, I lost one of my socks when traveling. I contacted Darn Tough customer service directly, and while they do not sell single socks, the representative offered to replace one pair completely free. Combine that with the lifetime guarantee to replace socks worn out through regular use. Cant be beat in my opinion. An American small business that stands behind one hell of a product. If you punish your socks like I do, you will save money buying these bad boys.
