> 24 hourI recently had to replace part of the door jam on my shed. Before I put the aluminum siding back up, I put a piece of this tape over the wood, to create a vapor (moisture) barrier. I intend to take all the siding off my shed, and put down more of this tape, to cover all the exterior facing wood, to help make it last longer. This stuff is very sticky, but not so sticky that it will be hard to move, if you dont press down on it. Other reviewers say its not so sticky when its cold, so it may become super sticky in the height of summer, but I did my tests at about 72 degrees, for reference. I ordered 3 inch tape, but the label says 2 inch, but that is not an issue, as it really is 3 inches. I dont mean, its 2.9 inches, and they rounded up, this is exactly 3 imperial inches wide. Im glad to see it is as advertised. I cant comment on the length, as I didnt measure it, but I expect it is accurate, since they didnt play games with the width. When you peel the labels off, even the sides of the roll are very sticky, so if youre working outside, and you dont have a clean area to work in, I suggest you leave the labels on, as to not pick up excessive leaves and dirt. If you search, youll see there are different types of butyl tape, of various widths and thicknesses. This is not suitable for filling in big gaps between 2 surfaces, but its perfect for filling in thin gaps, between wood and whatever. This should be suitable for anything you want to create a vapor barrier against, but Im not sure how well the sticky side will stand up to time, if it doesnt have anything pressing on it. My gut feeling is, it will do a fine job, for tasks other than the advertised applications. I intend to use it for some other tasks, so if I find out my gut feeling was wrong, Ill update this in the future.

> 24 hourThis is a great product. It is rubber-like, so it should repel rain water so that the wood in the step stringers doesn’t absorb the water and eventually rot. NOTE: THE ORDER OF THE PICTURES HAS CHANGES SINCE I ADDED THEM. Picture 1. This is what happens when you don’t protect the wood Picture 2. Example of rain absorbing into the stringer Picture 3. Applying the product Picture 4. Cut the product at the top of the rise and fold product back onto the rise (vertical part) stringer Picture 5. Fold down the product on the run (horizontal part) so that no water can penetrate the top of the stringer I use the 3” product so that there is more product to fold down onto the side of the stringer. To install, pull back the cellophane, which exposes the adhesive, and then press the product onto the wood. If you are paying $15,000 to $25,000 for a new deck, please make sure your contractor is installing this product on the joists and stringers, so that your deck lasts thirty years, or as long as your Trex or Timber Tech decking.

> 24 hourI wish I would have known about this kind of tape a lot earlier in my life. Compared to other options, such as spray-on rubberized coating, this stuff is a breeze to use as there is no cleanup needed. It could have made some repair jobs (both temporary and long-term) so much easier for me. It makes a great alternative to flashing in some cases. I am using it on top of my steel garden shed. The roofs on those types of sheds are always poorly sealed. They actually included a roll of standard duct tape with mine for sealing the roof ridge. This duct tape disintegrated a long time ago due to the elements. I just removed the long metal cover piece and used the new tape to seal the entire length of the roof panels. After application, nothing is getting through, not air or sunlight. This is great and should keep the inside of the shed much dryer. I would suggest applying the tape on a warm day for the best adhesion. If its cold outside, warm the surface with a heat gun first. The adhesive is not a hot-melt glue, but Im sure it works better when warm. I just wish I knew about it earlier so I could have used it under my deck boards. I did coat everything with a waterproofer, but that stuff wears off after a few years.

> 24 hourThis joist tape is great quality. The butyl is sufficiently thick and the adhesive is very sticky. I like to keep a roll on hand, because of its wide range of uses. Ive used it to temporarily fix a puncture in a wheelbarrow tire. Its great for roofing projects. Anywhere you want to stop water infiltration. It sticks to most smooth surfaces; just make sure its clean and dry. The 2 works great for 2 joists, because it completely covers the top and slightly onto the sides. It adheres to low moisture content wood. Treated lumber needs to be thoroughly dry for this to adhere well. It takes 2-3 days for full adhesion.

> 24 hourI was shocked to see that these rolls are 3 wide, not 2 as advertised which would obviously protect the joist beams more than 2 would. The tape is also thickened in order to putty itself to the joist and lock out moisture, dirt, bugs, dust, pollen and any other debris. Putting the tape on this way will prolong the life of your structure which is why you bought this tape for in the first place. This joist tape is a sure winner! Make sure you put the tape on when the wood is COMPLETELY DRY, dust free, clean and ready for you to place the freshly cut tape on the wood you want protected. We have started using it anywhere there is wood to wood contact in the exterior, such as decking and wooden stairways. 5 STARS!

> 24 hourI decided to use this tape under the eaves of my house for some proactive repair. The mitered corners of my soffit could have a better seal, so I am taping them for added security. Its an easy fix with this tape and it does seem that it will last, especially since it should get minimum sunlight and rain in the protected area where I am using it.
