I havent used this on a deck yet but can see its a very strong, heavy-duty tape for the toughest applications. I will seal some gaps with this (easier than caulking) and it will work to prevent cold air from blowing in. As a quick repair method it could also hold something together until you have the tools (like nails or screws) to do a permanent job.

I was shocked to see that these rolls are 3 wide, not 2 as advertised which would obviously protect the joist beams more than 2 would. The tape is also thickened in order to putty itself to the joist and lock out moisture, dirt, bugs, dust, pollen and any other debris. Putting the tape on this way will prolong the life of your structure which is why you bought this tape for in the first place. This joist tape is a sure winner! Make sure you put the tape on when the wood is COMPLETELY DRY, dust free, clean and ready for you to place the freshly cut tape on the wood you want protected. We have started using it anywhere there is wood to wood contact in the exterior, such as decking and wooden stairways. 5 STARS!

Im reinforcing an existing deck to support some additional weight, adding new underside posts and beams. In two locations, one where I am notching the posts to support the beams, and secondly where mating two beams together for increased strength, Im covering the top surface with this tape, both to prevent water from getting between two joists, and to protect the 6x6 PT post notches. An additional project I am seriously considering is to remove the stair treads from my deck stairs and use this to cover the cut stringers. Wish I had considered this when I first constructed those stairs. I have not used this material before and cannot say for certain whether protecting these areas will ultimately extend the life of the deck but it does give me confidence that Ive reduced the potential number of failure points, making it all worthwhile.

This joist tape is thick and well made. Film peels off easily when youre ready to apply it. Good adhesive and does the job its supposed to do.

It sticks pretty well to dry wood. I soaked it with a garden hose and it came off real easy. Not too confidence inspiring.

Very well made tape and it sticks to just about any clean surface, I bought the 2 inch version and I was so happy with it so now I bought the 3 inch version.

This is a simple solution to give my deck extra life. The tape is thick and sticks once its applied. The best test I can show is in the picture. I punctured the tape with a nail, and it sealed exactly as it should around the nail preventing leaks. And it helps with any deck squeaks too!! Be aware there is a thin cellophane like layer that needs to be peeled off before applying. It is there so the roll doesnt stick to itself. I hope this was helpful!

If youre resurfacing your deck, pressure wash the crud off the joist-tops first, let it dry, then get to sticking it down. Backing does tear sometimes, and builds up a lot of static when you take it off... Get into a rhythm though, and youre all set. Tape is spot on at 2, which incidentally is what you should be putting on your 2x joists (the 1-5/8 tape leaves no margin for error). Alas, it was also pretty consistent at falling short of 50 length. First roll was 42, next was 47, another barely made 40. Would I buy it again? Absolutely (as long as theres a decent coupon with it)! Would I like to get 50 rolls when I pay for 50 rolls? Absolutely!

I like the rubber feel of this tape. I havent used it for its intended purpose since I dont have a deck, but I have used it for other small things around the house and it works well. The tape is nice and sticky and adheres nicely.
