> 3 dayI have had this watch for well over a year now and its still true its 14 plus day run time before needing charged.. fitness apps work extremely well overall there are a good handful of watch faces that are really good and informational sleep tracking is good heart rate tracking is about average. Text and notification show up on the watch as well This watch is built like a tank but at the same time it also has a lower profile and not overwhelming big for those of us without bear or caveman wrist it fits well on anyone A few of the drawbacks is that its not very user friendly in the beginning because everything is button based its extremely easy to get lost in menus or options also there is not a whole lot of storage for watch faces or apps surprisingly you can only fit about 10 watch faces and maybe 5 apps before you run out of space.. Overall its an extremely well made waterproof fitness smartwatch with all types of fitness related activities

Greater than one weekI went from the Garmin Fenix 3 to the 5X and while I love the watch in general, mine has a flaw with the charger. Sometimes the watch will connect and disconnect continuously from the computer. Sometimes it wont connect at all. And if I get it to connect I have to be extremely careful and not touch it or it will lose the connection again. Garmin admitted there was an issue with this response: I am sorry we have currently noticed that there is an issue with the fenix 5x charging port. We are working on a fix but until we have a new batch all of the devices will have the same issues. I have added you to the case so we will contact you when we have a resolution. Until then, when you connect the device to the computer, you will not want to touch it so it will remain connected. It has been about 6 weeks now and they still have no updates on when this issue will be fixed. If you want a flawless watch, you may want to wait before buying. Once the charging issue is fixed Ill upgrade this to a 5 but until then it is a PITA to sync with my computer. ============================================ Update 11/10 Ive had my replacement watch for about a month now. Garmin support flip flopped again and said there was no known issue with the charging port and that my watch would be replaced. I paid for an advance RMA and I think they sent me a brand new watch. The new watch has not exhibited the same issues with the charging port and I have been quite happy. I am upgrading this to 4 stars and not 5 only because of the extreme hassle I had to go through and time it took for Garmin to take care of me, the customer.

Greater than one weekIve been waiting and searching for a smartwatch that does just what this Garmin does. I dont want all the crazy functions from smart watch like texting, calling.. REALLY?? I see people texting on their iWatch and laugh. then they have to take the watch off at the pool? Since when did backwards innovation considered great? I can wear this watch in the pool, diving, snorkeling, shower, GYM while pumping out 250W on stationary bike. Not having to worry even a slight bit on if my watch will die from all the liquid. It gives me time constantly, Screen NEVER SHUTS OFF!! and the Im on my 4th charge since buying this. on average this thing will last 7 days with HR monitor on, GPS tracking on when cycling outside. Only 2nd thought is I wish I got the non-5X version since its it smaller and doesnt have MAP function, which is not really needed. Band is stiff yet flexible enough to keep a good tightness around my wrist without hurting. IF YOU ARE EVEN THINKING ABOUT GETTING IT, get it. its worth every penny.

> 3 dayI recently bought this Garmin sports watch at Amazon, and I thought about it for a long time, compared to other brands, and then I chose Garmin, and I caught up with this discount promotion, and I bought it, and I felt like it was worth it. First of all, I want to express this device first, really good! Secondly, although this watch is a little big for me, it means that the watch is not suitable for thin people because their arms are very thin. But that doesnt mean I like this watch. He has a full range of functions, running, walking, triathlon (though my current training is not designed to do this), swimming, and so on. Recording the number of steps and heart rate monitoring is very accurate, calorie consumption and stress monitoring are also great. It can also add some widgets, such as weather and gyroscopes, and so on. Its what I like very much. The watchs biggest feature, GPS, is very powerful. Built-in bike route maps, as well as TOPO maps, are ideal for cyclists and walkers. Very convenient, the map is very intuitive. One of the features I value is that the watch lasts a long time, and I can now guarantee that I can charge it for more than 15 days and use it normally. Watch and mobile phone can be easily connected, mobile phone app can clearly display all kinds of recorded data, very convenient. The strap can also be removed quickly if I like other types of watch band, I can also buy the corresponding watch band, very nice. On the whole, this watch is powerful, has a long life and meets my requirements. I like it very much.

> 3 dayWith many options for hi tech watches currently out there, I ended up between the Casio GWN-Q1000 and this Fenix 5X. I opted out of the Casio on reports of an hour needle bug. Granted, that watch is not fully comparable: it is an ABC sensor plus depth-meter, solar and radio-controlled, but no GPS, not smart, no HR monitor or wifi). The 5X seemed to have it all except for Solar (wouldnt that be a breakthrough!) or the depth meter (frankly, when I dive, I rely on specialized equipment really). So that said, I am impressed at all theyve been able to pack into the Garmin. This is after having multiple multi sensor watches in the past, including Suunto and casio, plus multiple Garmin devices (mostly GPS units, sonars, bike computers). This is my second day and overall I am pleased. However, my first impression has been stained by several issues when trying to load watch faces. The watch froze (hung up) on me several times, on different occasions, to the point Ive had to use hard-resets. Back to default (factory) conditions, apparently no harm done and the default face (with further customization) works well. The default face is not as customizeable as some of the third-part faces available through Connect IQ, so I am quite disappointed on the fact many of them just seem to crash the watch. The iphone app is also buggy at times (it works for the most part, but has occasional glitches). Other than that, a great watch and not that big if youve owned a Suunto in the past (I was a little bit afraid up front of the 51mm on my slim wrist but it looks great--I also work in an office environment and it is not too flashy that it would seem too out of place--I might not wear it with a suit and tie, though). Pricey, but very well built. Ill try an update after building a little more experience with it. 4/13/19 update: two years into this watch and while I still like it, there are obvious design issues that surface. The backplate epoxy finish over the sensor has started to crack and the charger dock connector (4 pins on the back side) are a terrible idea: there are spring loaded pins in the charging cables and these tend to get stuck so making good contact with the charger is an issue—garmin should have devised a better charging mechanism

Greater than one weekWhat can this watch not do?! I bought it as a gift for my husband (who was appalled at the expense, to be honest) for our major anniversary. He has taken to working out again and I wanted to support that with a superb heart rate device that also had a rowing and running option. When I saw the GPS feature I knew it would make a superb option for those emergency situations...I also was looking for a HR device that had a metal band since the silicone ones give him a rash. Add on the tough sapphire option and I was sold. Yes, its BIG. I tried like hell to understand the different options of Garmins but it was just ridiculous. Could I put the metal band on a less expensive model? Dunno. Does this fancy one come in a smaller case? Dunno. So I defaulted for the option that had all the features and the band and called it a day. He LOVES it. Loves the data it kicks out, loves the battery length, loves the band options. And, if sent to Hurricane Harvey, will love the GPS option to aid in getting around an unknown area without a lot of street signs left. Is the watch worth the price? If it wasnt for the anniv date pending I would have waited a year to see if the price dropped. Is the warranty really brief for such an expensive item? Hell, yes. Ridiculously so. That is my only negative. Will I try to get an add-on warranty if I can? Yep. This is NOT the item for someone who just goofs around with working out and heart rate info. Any manufacturer will meet that intro-level need. But if you are looking for detailed data as well as SHTF compass. alt. gps data this is the one.

Greater than one weekBeautiful watch but typical Garman operating system and dark hard to see backgrounds. There’s 3 different menus, took me 3 days or so to figure out some of it. The connect app which you need didn’t have the oxy pulse on it???? Wife’s does, so thought maybe it had to go through the computer to add it in. Garman connect app wouldn’t even find the watch. Lots of connection issues watch to all apps you need to work this complicated thing. Would be great watch for someone who enjoys dickering around finding functions on the various button menus. I’m an old guy who started on windows 3.1 and sick of learning new OS. Espeacially garman stuff that won’t connect up half the time, literally! Sent it back and put my old timex back on!

> 3 dayIve owned about a half a dozen fitness trackers, my last one being the Garmin Fenix 3hr. I recently purchased the Fenix 5X and it is loaded with more sensors and capabilities than I would ever use, but theyre nice to have just in case; I like options. Heart rate sensor is probably the best Ive used, GPS tracking is about average, but what puts this device over the top are the TOPO maps built into the watch, its awesome. Fortunately for me my F3hr came with a titanium band that actually fits the F5X, its easier to take off and on and change wrist if needed, plus its very light. The watchface options are a little thin right now, but that will change with time, since the F5X has just been released. Ive been looking for the perfect smart/fitness tracker watch to replace my 30 year old Jules Jergenson everyday watch and I think I found it. Of course with technology advancing as fast as it is, the F5X might be obsolete in just a few years and probably wont last as long as my JJ watch, lol. Garmin has finally released a nice fitness watch that actually is worth the investment and it looks like it will be durable and flexible enough to last several years and still be useful. If you can swing the price, I say go for it.

> 3 dayI went from a Galaxy watch to this watch and at first I hated the lack of smartness to it. But in reality, I like it more now because I dont get bugged by constant alerts about my life on my wrist. I got it as a training watch but I wear it every day and all night. I love that it tracks sleep, it lasts at least a week unless you work out hours a day, it is integrated with the Connect environment, and is really one of the best adventure watches you could ask for. I wanted it for hiking, but it turned out being a big factor in me getting back into fairly decent running shape and it became my cycling computer. It works so well, that it convinced me to upgrade my Edge 800 to the 830 for the advanced metrics the new devices give and I am every trying to convince myself to get the 6X. It is huge, but I am 61 and it fits well on my wrist. It doesnt play music and music control for your phone isnt great... but the 6X has it haha. The GPS isnt all that great for serious running and the barometric altimeter has a pretty serious drift too large for reliable data in flat terrain. I live at sea level and in flat terrain and the drift is 100 ft or so throughout a bike ride or longer run. Sure, it is within the GPS accuracy but I demand a lot from my altimeter. For hiking, the altimeter can work like a charm if you properly calibrate it and such. Sometimes it was a few hundred ft off and when I pay attention to calibration it was within 50ft - closest you will really get. Overall... I love this watch and it hurts my wallet to say that I dont see getting a watch outside of the Fenix line until some other company targets this line specifically. I know there is Suunto... but they are similar enough for me to stick with the Connect ecosystem since I do multiple sports that are in the Garmin environment.
