> 3 dayGarmin simply makes GREAT watches for athletes (who want some minimal smart watch features too!). Before this I bought FITBIT products and was always returning them before a year of use expired due to the watch stopping functionally or band detaching from the watch. Not to mention the fitbit branded products had minimal battery life. I love the fact that this watch can go at least a week between charges (with reasonable daily 1hr runs using GPS). Along with the activity tracking, the watch offers several apps as well as message display which keeps me from always having to pull my phone out of my pocket to see what notification popped up on the screen. Perks: * decent GPS tracking - maps are nice on the watch as well when youre out and hiking about with little guidance on the trail signage. Saves you from giving up too soon, or from taking a bad shortcut on the way back! * decent heartrate monitoring from wrist with support for bluetooth straps as well. * syncs with strava and many other apps through garmin or direct upload * awesome battery life Downsides: * a bit heavy, had to get used to it for a week before I could handle the extra weight. * returned the first one I bought due to a vibration feature that stopped working at full strength after a week. Other smart watches are literally battery consumers and dont even make it a day or two between charges. Who needs a watch to talk to a cell tower when you already have a phone? Id much prefer to charge once ever ~2 weeks. Really excited to get one of the newer Garmin watches with solar charging to extend this out to nearly 20-30 days (after the price drops of course - haha!).

> 3 dayI added a photo - i remember I was looking for pictures to gauge size when looking at these. Was a fan of the MS Band and had been through both versions of that with their various flaws. Finally gave up on that and was looking for something else to put the (nice) refund MS provided to. Was looking at the Fenix 3 until I saw the 5x come out. Took the plunge and was lucky enough to get a buy when some of the rare stock showed up here. I am overall happy with this watch. Do get the odd set of data - it recorded a max speed of 131mph on my mountain bike! Seen those weird errors on every device I have own. I like that I could go edit and cap it correctly in the software though. That has only happened twice though. Had a couple of bad GPS maps where the route was all over the place - again seen that on all devices. Had most (Since then) where it has been spot on. Being able to ride several times a week without having to charge after every ride, not having my rides capped by a battery is a big bonus for me. There is something nice about getting off the bike after a 3-4 hour ride and still seeing 80 percent battery remaining. The Sapphire glass is pretty amazing. Bashed it on doors, scrapped against trees, knocked it, scuffed it and its crystal clear still. The band with Gorilla Glass got tore up pretty bad. The availability of options can be a little overwhelming at first and it takes a little while to get used to moving through the functions available. Its not touch screen. After a couple of days though, its configured how I want it and moving where I want like a champ. Im going with the thoughts that its a general sports watch thatll record data reasonably accurately for whatever I want to do. If I wanted to nail the data perfectly in an attempt to use it to improve certain sports metrics, with a much higher level of confidence, I would have to add on devices that are specific to what I want to achieve. Such as a HR strap for my accurate HR, etc.

Greater than one weekI have been using the 5S sapphire for 3 months now and I have to say that I am super impressed! First off, Size: I have small to medium wrists. Reading that the s version is for women, I was initially worried if it would be too small. However, the size is perfect! I called Garmin and they said that the S version is for male and females with small / medium wrists. Build: I am happy that I went with the Sapphire edition. Knowing that I dont have to worry about scratches gives me the peace of mind to use the watch as I please. The quality of the the build is premium and it feels great on my wrist while also looking great! Functions: Very impressed with the excellent functionality of the watch. Everything is accurate including sleep tracking ( compared it to Fitbit Charge 3 on the other wrist). Love the variety of exercise tracking options. Garmin Connect IQ: I am impressed with how quickly the watch syncs with the app (8 secs or less). Love the design of the app and the wealth of information provided. Battery: Consistently lasts 7 days in regular non-gps watch mode! This is exactly why I bought this watch over any Wear OS watch. Did not want to bother with having to charge every night. The only negative I can think of is that I wish there were more watch face options available. But this is a minor issue given that the selection that exists is not bad at all! Would definitely recommend to anyone interested in buying!

> 3 dayI upgraded from the Fenix 3 and am very pleased with the 5X. I was able to score this for $310 (tax incl) on Amazon over the holidays (Nov 19). It came with the correct region/maps. I have put almost 900 miles (running) on it, mostly trails. It is very accurate by my assessment. I just looked at my last few trail runs and it stuck solidly to the trail as seen on the map with very little deviation or drift. It connects to my phone without issue. The battery is okay it generally drains around 10%/hour for runs with every second data recording and HR strap. The optical HR seems more accurate on runs than general weight workout in the gym (under reads, IMO). I have been very pleased with its overall performance thus far and would recommend at the price point during the holiday season.

> 3 dayI love so many features of this product, but hate the stress program on it. On my watch the heart rate sensor and the stress program that is based off of heart rate variability does not work properly. I have contacted Garmin three different times and either no resolution or no response to them. I was told the first time I contacted them regarding this that could be a sensor error and they would get back with me. Two months later and I have tried contacting them 2 more times with absolutely no response. I can do a hard reset of the entire watch and the feature will work for 3-5 days before malfunctioning again. I really do not want to have to hard reset my watch constantly and lose all the other customization. Because of this error I am not sure how much I can trust other features of the watch. If this feature worked and Garmin had responded to my problems I would probably have given this product a 5 star rating but not happy with the watch or the customer service at this point. The sensor problem finally resolved with latest update. Now i LOVE the watch!!

> 3 dayIts large but its great for easy at a glance updates and info. Only hassle is while hunting. When taking off a heavy pack the straps always hang up on my watch. I dont use the map but I do use the tracking. The map on a 1.2 screen is impossible to read but I suppose if you were lost itsbetter than nothing. I do use the compass, tracking, sight and go feature and way points a lot. Each night back in camp I can review my hunt on my tablet. For work I use it to tell time... Imagine that! Also for notifications and finding my phone when Ive missed placed it. Thats another cool feature, when paired with your phone your watch notifies you if you are out of range. This feature has been a great reminder for me not to leave my phone or helped not get too far from a dropped or misplaced phone.

> 3 dayI love love love my Garmin Fenix 5S. It is an upgrade from my previous ones and I l love it. I love the color and receive many compliments over it. Ive even had runners on course point it out. I did however swap out the champagne metal band for a rubber purple one so that I didnt ruin the metal band. I use the metal band for when I go out and want to wear my watch. This product works great. I love all the features it has and use it daily. No complaints. I run Spartan races as well and it as survived two of them already without a scratch. Note: I did put a glass screen protector on it even though its the sapphire edition. For the price you cant go wrong with a little extra protection (meaning the screen protector). So far this watch has survived swimming in the the water, crawling through mud and water and rocks and obstacles. It has survived banging into things as well as being dragged across things. It does not interfere with my wrist motion especially in the bent position. Every now and again I do twist my wrist enough to hit a button but it goes back easily if you press the back button. It has a good life to the battery (I charge it every three days as I constantly use its features). The heart monitor has yet to stop working when I get sweaty or wet like the last versions did. I have nothing but great things to say about this watch.

Greater than one week5.5 years of daily use, and it finally quit charging. Has been an amazing watch, and I will be replacing it with the 7X, but I could also see someone paying Garmin to repair it and continue using this older model. Not a scratch on the Sapphire screen despite hard mountain bike crashes onto very abrasive Moab rock. Even the titanium body still retains nearly all its color. Ive gone through about 5 bands (approx 1 per year).

> 3 dayI am far from a good runner. I actually hate running. But I do it anyway because I love the feeling I get AFTER I run. Over the years I have had multiple Fitbit devices, a Samsung Galaxy Watch, and an Apple Watch series 2. This is by far the best sports watch Ive ever used. PROS: - Extremely rugged design. This thing is a tank. - Accurate GPS tracking - Easy to read stats while running. I like to know my pace, distance and time. This gives me the info that I want. - You can read this thing in the brightest sunlight while running (see pic for example of mid-day run with full sun) - Its easy to use. Its not bogged down with too many smart watch features. - Physical buttons! You can start and stop activities with a button press rather than swiping on a touch screen. - ANT+ is a great feature. I use this to connect to my Peloton and it displays my heart rate in real time during a ride - no chest strap needed. - The Garmin App is great and is easy to set up. CONS: - For me, there is only one con: the floor count is just straight up trash. Google it. You will find tons of people complaining about how the Fenix 5 doesnt accurately count floors. There is no fix for this that I can find. Its just a feature that you have to live with not working. This wouldnt be a huge deal to me except Floors Climbed is a metric that Garmin gives you to measure and sets a goal for you to reach each day. I hate that most days I dont hit the goal. I can walk up and down the stairs 20 to 30 times in a row and only get 1 or 2 floors. If you can live with the floor count not working, this watch is amazing.

> 3 dayDo you want a flashy mini-phone on your arm? One that can display pictures and crystal clear multimedia? Are you concerned with getting perfect emojis on your wrist? Then this is NOT your watch. This is a TRAINING watch that looks great even in a suit, and has some smart watch features. Be warned: This is a watch for physical training above all. The screen looks great outside, but is designed for maximum battery life (lasting a week for me). What this watch CAN do is track your run, hike, bike ride, or any other activity your can imagine. Fenix will track your heart rate, elevation gain, pace, route with GPS/GLONASS, VO2 Max and training load. This watch has helped me push myself and work harder, and gives GREAT feedback about your performance. This watch is light years ahead of Apple when it comes to exercise tracking and feedback. My old Apple watch looks like a cheesy toy in comparison. But ask yourself... are you tough enough to sport this timepiece?
