Glyph BlackBox Plus (2TB)

After a bit of a challenge to configure for my MacBook Pro 2017 - works as expected. Initially the MacBook didnt recognize (as with my Passport as well). Some conflict or another.. a quick lookup on troubleshooting sites and blogs and problem solved.

Arrived a day late, Amazon Prime next day per Amazon. 1T USB 3.1 Gen 2. 7200 rpm. For MAC. arrived in good condition and worked out of the box. Checked specs and as advertised.

Nice quality packing. USB-C cable is very short. Ex-FAT format performance was very, very slow. Was ready to give up using the drive but formatted with Apple File System (APFS) and happy that fast transfer speeds are now possible with Apple MacBookPro.

So far it works really well! My WD hard drive failed and this one has been a lifesaver. I highly recommend Glyph drives in general since i also have their 3 tb Glyph studio and both have been awesome! Even though I accidentally force eject them sometimes it seems like it has no effect on them at all. Super reliable and dope

I usually like Glyph drives, but this model seems to have a design flaw. The drive I bought loses its connection when the drive is moved. The USB C cable does not appear to be properly fastened to the board, so the connection is intermittent when even the USB cable gets touched. This is a huge fail and I would avoid this drive. Its a snake because my 2 TB version that I bought two years ago is still running perfectly and that one has been all over the planet.

I am a huge Glyph fan and have two old rack HDDs from back in the day for my studio. I bought this 4TB unit simply for time machine backups and it has worked flawlessly. That being said many of the features like SMART monitoring are not really available as advertised. Also there tech support is awful. Take forever to reply and don’t even answer my questions. If this were being used as a primary work drive I might’ve returned it, but since it’s for backup I’m not gonna bother.

DO NOT BUY! I REPEAT, DO NOT BUY! I bought the 2TB Glyph blackbox plus from this seller and they sent me one that was broken. When I would insert it into my Mac or PC, they were unable to read it. They did refund me my money but it was frustrating trying to get it to work when i received it but then finding out that it had a defect. I had contacted Glyph support and told them that the blackbox plus would not stop making a beeping sound when plugged into the computer. They told me that the blackbox was defective and to return it to the seller. Also just as a side note, if you do decide on buying the blackbox plus, try the 1TB because its considerably faster than the 2TB model.
