This is a great system. We have had terrible Wifi connection throughout the whole house and now we get wifi throughout the house.

This is an excellent device, no issues so far. I can access it from anywhere using my cell phone. Great signal withing advised range and it looks really nice on any place, so I dont have to hide it.

Im medium tech savvy and was tired of having to switch networks whenever I wanted to get a better connection through one of the various range extenders I had set up around my house. Setting this up was super easy- plug and play, took about 30 minutes to set the whole thing up. I used 3 for my 1,700 sq ft house and now have seamless coverage throughout.

tl;dr: The dummy-proof setup is probably great when everything goes as planned, but if something goes wrong you get stuck in an infinite loop. It took three hours of phone calls and online chats to get the system set up, and in the end the result is good internet where we already had good internet and just okay internet where we wanted to extend it, even though our house is less than half the size they claim that three units cover, and each unit has direct line-of-sight to the next. Full story: So, dummy proof setup that other people remark upon is probably true, if everything goes as it should. When it doesnt, though, the result is that you get stuck in a infinite loop. My first issue began when setting up the units. The first two units set up fine. The third unit got stuck on the Connecting to unit -- making good progress screen. Whereas the other unit spent only about five minutes on this screen, I let the last unit go for 45 minutes or so and it never progressed. I called customer service, and got a rep whose name was legit Lovely Princess. The combination of her accent and an echoey bad connection made it hard to understand her. She wanted a customer support code that was on a screen that I couldnt get to because my app was stuck trying to set up the last unit. When I exited setup, I reached a screen that I was going to become WAY too familiar with. The only options it gives you are add new unit or download software update. She suggested I move on to downloading the software update. It counted down fine from 5 minutes 30 seconds...4 minutes 30 seconds...when it got to 30 seconds it hung up and stayed on that series of screens (Were working hard...making good progress..your patience will be rewarded... -- can you tell I have them memorized?). After at least 15 minutes of this 30-second update, we realized this was also hung up. Force-quitting the app does nothing, it just reopens to that same screen. I had to delete the app off my phone and then re-install it. So, I reinstall the app and am able to get to the screen that allows me to add the third unit. This time it adds it, but then my only option is to download the software update. I asked Lovely Princess what I should do if I got stuck on the software download, and she basically said, Itll be okay. We hang up, I move onto the software download stage, and sure enough it gets stuck again with 30 seconds to go. This time I decide to try the online chat. Heres another example of how Googles attempt to be dummy proof is too smart for its own good. I have one gmail address for friends and family, and another that I use for the other stuff -- signing up for emails at stores, etc. Usually I have two browser windows open where Im logged into each. I open a new window and go to the support website. It asks me for my email, and I provide my real email that I used to set up the network, and then initiate the chat. Turns out that INSTEAD OF USING THE EMAIL IT ASKED ME TO TYPE IN, the site snooped into the Google login of the browser window and initiated the chat request under THAT email. So, the poor CS tech (shoutout kimbryan, you were very nice even if your system sucks) could not access my network because he cant verify my email address. So, he wants the support code. Yeah, weve been there, buddy -- you cant access the support code from this nightmare screen Im stuck on. In the end I had to open a new browser window from the window that was logged in under my other email, initiate a second simultaneous chat with THAT guy, and then ask him to talk to the other guy via intraoffice messaging about my problem. Then, were back in an infinite loop with the THIRD guy where they tell me to try the software download again. I tell them Ive been at this for hours now, it gets to 30 seconds and then wont complete the download. Just try it again. Try it again, no luck. At this point Im ready to throw the whole system out the window. Just imagine a few more hours of this, and the upshot is one of the devices wasnt updating its firmware or something, which was causing the software download to hang up. You can update the firmware from the app, only I CANT because the app automatically only gives me the option to download the software update. I cant even remember how we resolved it in the end...it involved a lot of plugging and unplugging of things and then I think I had to delete the app off my phone a second time and reinstall it. So, what was the end result? The places in the house where our internet was already good are fine. The bedroom where we wanted to extend internet to is just okay, even though the three units are supposed to cover 4500 square feet and our house is under 2000. The CS tech basically said maybe the bedroom is just a particularly dead spot (no duh, thats why we bought the system). I can see each unit from the next, so I dont know if adding units will help or not. Ive now turned the whole thing over to my husband to decide if were going to keep the system and add units or send the whole thing back and try something else. Ive done my part.

Ive looked at Google wifi for a number of months and finally decided to make the purchase over alternative solutions. Ive tried extenders, various modems, etc. and have been left wanting when it comes to a strong connection throughout my house. After a dinner meeting with a client who was in the process of turning off his kids devices (which I thought was brilliant), I ordered Google that evening. When making the purchase, I wondered how many google units I needed. Based on Googles description, I thought I may need more than three as my house is around 6,000sq ft on two levels. Half of that is a concrete walkout basement and I wasnt sure how well the signal would pass through walls, floors, etc. I went with the three pack for starters, with the idea that I could add more if needed. Packaging was great - very clean and appealing - with easy instructions on the proper set up. As a result, set up for the initial unit was super simple. It was a bit of a guessing game in where I should set up the additional units, but proved to be inconsequential as each unit provides AMAZING coverage. I have the main one (connected to the hard wire) in my corner basement office, the second in the middle of my main floor, and the third on the far side of my house on the main floor. The entire house, as well as 100+ feet on any side of my house is drenched in glorious wifi. The grouping of connected units, setting on/off times, parental controls, etc. is pretty straight forward. There are also a number of individual settings for each Google unit, so you can control the brightness of the lights, things like that. Again, pretty simple and was as promised. So why the two stars? In the reading of the fabulous amazon and other reviews, I never really came across many complaints. Evidently I didnt know what to search for. Because not long (like a day) after being really excited about the results and newly found service in all corners of my house, my internet started dropping. The wifi connection was still strong, there just wasnt any internet. In checking my modem, there was a bright red light indicating there was no service to it. Simple solution - restart the modem and see what happens. As I hoped, after a few minutes the red light goes away and everything works great again. For a few hours at least. Rinse, repeat on the modem restart and were going again. Long story short, since that time, something about the Google wifi units is shutting off my internet. I never had this happen before. As mentioned above, its usually fixed with a restart. However, its super frustrating and has proved to not be reliable. When searching for answers, it appears Im not the only one with this problem. It seems these problems have been in place since the launch of the product and there are little answers. So, for now, were living with great internet service about 80% of the time. My family wants me to give up on Google, but I keep hoping for a new software update and the problem goes away. I dont know how long Ill keep up the hope...

Works well, but still takes some trial/error to figure out ideal speaker placement for our duplex condo. Wish there was a setting that would allow you to permanently prioritize ranking for all connected wifi devices

Extremely easy to set up - about 15 minutes to set up everything connected to our WiFi, 5 different points. We were able to remove a hardwired laptop that wouldnt work with our last router. So far having no issues, except having some lag on our lower level, 2 floors below our router. Not enough of a lag that we feel we need to purchase another one, our house size fits for using just one, but the lay out of the house might be interfering with the signal. The price point is good enough that we wouldnt mind purchasing another if we feel we need it. I definitely would recommend this to anyone who is replacing a router and would like extremely easy set-up.

I truly love the range that it covers. My fire stick in my man cave was not holding the wifi signal, now it does. 80 feet from the wifi point.

My home is 6500 ft, and 3 units supposed to cover it. Would have given it 5 stars IF they had included an instruction manual with it. I set up incorrectly the first time and was getting download speeds of 40 Mbps on my secondary 2 wifi points!! Then chatted with Amazon product specialist and she taught me how to reset all 3 units and start from the beginning again with the app on the iPad. Now after the second set up - I get 190 Mbps download speed in the room where the main wifi point connected to the modem is located. The other 2 points located 150 ft from that main point - I get download speeds of 120 Mbps. Interesting observation on my iPhone or iPad every corner of the house I get 190 Mbps download speeds!!

Enjoy a fast signal in every room, on every device. Google Wi-Fi is a new type of connected system that replaces your router for seamless coverage throughout your home. It is a standalone whole home mesh system which does not promise compatibility or interoperability with other 3rd party Wifi systems. But compatible with all Wifi client devices.
