This is a great heavy duty drop rod. I put it on one door of a double-door gate so that the other door can be pedestrian friendly but we can still choose to open both doors if needed. Install was easy. I mounted to steel gate so I chose to pre-drill the hole and to use self-tapping screws (I already had some I like so i did not use the ones that came in the box, cant speak to their quality). Would recommend this drop rod.

Easy installation and even easier to use. The height of the rod prevents from having to bend over to open gates. I’ve installed 14 of these on my property.

Worried it wouldnt work in the sandy area I tried to use these, I used metal stands meant for holding solar garden lights that were just large enough to use as guide placeholders for the rod in the down position and it works kind of great so far. Item is good and would suggest it if you want a sturdy ground point of pinning your gate closed or to inertia keep it open if not sink it to the ground to provide the same.

Likes: easy install, matched gate well, Dislikes-No hanger or assembly to hold rod up BUT if you used the versa gate kit, the rod can be turned and rest on middle support just fine. Caution: The rod was purchased for one side of 7x14 privacy gate. The gate interior faces south and gets hammered in a southwest wind (most common in my area). I have chain link on other three sides so no windbreak there. The rod held on but bent a good bit on first test. Now hard to slide up and down. Considering how much energy is leveraged on that rod with a 14 foot sail of privacy fence, not surprised. Going to have cut some thick U stock metal and a piece of square tube to make a support for significant wind events.

They work great and I have had them for a few years now. The rod bends a little in high winds. Overall I would definitely buy them again.

This does the job, but the mounting bracket assumes the bottom board on your gate is pretty close to the ground. Otherwise the rod wont reach. Also, be sure to leave at least an inch between the gate and the post (or the other gate), otherwise the holding prong will impinge. The directions say you should have two drop rods for a double gate. If you do that, how do you open it from the other side.
