There’s only a few reviews specifically about shag rugs so I wanted to add mine for anyone curious! I bought a used shag rug off of marketplace (I know! The horror!). I’ve always wanted a luxuriously plush shaggy rug, but was worried about the upkeep. I decided to buy one used, and cheap, before committing. I got this rug and vacuumed the heck out of it. It took 4 vacuum sessions, and a few shake outs to get all of the junk out of the deep fibers. Then I went to town with the shampooer. I have owned the power dash pet cleaner as well, and this one has less suction power in my opinion. The bristles also seem gentler and not as vigorous. However, this model has many more pros than those 2 cons. Taking out and emptying the chamber is so simple compared to the dash. I love the hose attachment. But the best part of this model is the RINSE option!!! LOVE IT! This rug feels so sparkling clean now. I even dug through the fibers to make sure I got all of the crud out of it. This machine did not eat up the long fibers at all, either! I will say that it took a lot of drying which was very tedious. If you’re cleaning a shag with this, make sure to really spend extra time drying it. I then hung it to dry out even more. I don’t expect this shampoo model to last longer than a year or two unfortunately. It seems all of these machines get too broken down internally by moisture. I owned two powerdash pets that broke within 1-2 years. This time I am trying to really focus on airing out the unit before putting it back into storage. I will update if anything goes amiss!

Machine works great. Does the job. Carpet shampoo that could be bought separately has great smell.

Last time carpet was cleaned: At least a year. Houehold Occupants: A 2 yr old chocolate milk junkie, a 6 yr old food spilling champion and a senior chihuahua who doesnt always make it to her doggie pad. Shipping: Amazon is amazing as usual. Packaging: Very well packed. All the pieces were there and intact. Setup: Easy. Open the box, attach the handle, fill it up with water & solution, plug it in and start cleaning. Filling: Easy. The openings on the water & solution tank make filling a breeze. No leaks so far. As for the tank size, I feel its adequate. I believe I had to fill the water 4 times and used the entire sample solution bottle for my 10 x 12 living room. Cleaning: Wow! Thats what my wife said when she first saw the carpet after I finished. I felt it put down a lot of solution though so I went back over the area twice with just water which made the rinse option come in handy. The heated air feature is not a gimmick, I feel it helps the carpet dry faster. While this thing isnt a miracle worker, compared to what the carpets were before, it definitely cleans! Emptying: Easy. The separate tanks and spout on the dirty water tank let you fluidly empty the tank when necessary. Manueverability: Easy. Given its smaller size and larger wheels, I had no trouble pushing/pulling this thing around the living room. The cord was long enough to cover the entire room. Upholstery cleaning: It cleaned our microfiber sofa! I was seriously considering replacing our current sofa with a leather one (still might) because this thing is a stain magnet. If I could find the guy who told me this was the best fabric for kids and pets...I digress. The spin brush worked ok for me although I mainly used the wide upholstery brush, scrubbing as I went. I can see why companies charge a lot extra to clean a sofa or chair; very time consuming. The only downside is I need to go back over the side I cleaned because I missed some spots as it is hard to tell when its wet. Storage: Its the size of a vacuum, so it fits right next to Shark Navigator in the closet. The accessories bag that holds the hose and upholstery attachments has a hook attached to it which allows you to hang it on the machine when you arent using it. Durability: Too soon to tell. I think most things can last a while if you take care of them (cleaning before storage, cleaning the brushes, not running it into walls/furniture etc.). Cant do much for manufacturing defects except hope Hoover stands behind their warranty. Overall toughts: I was debating between this and the Bissell Big Green Machine. Both had great reviews and videos on YouTube, but at $127 I couldnt pass this machine up. I expected not to like it and carefully opened the packaging so it would be easier to return it to Amazon later, but as you have read above, I really like this little guy and Im keeping it. It might or might not clean as well as the $400 Bissell, but Im happy with it so thats all that matters to me. Thanks for reading and I hope my review helped you. Have a great day!

This carpet cleaner is lightweight so I dont have to fight it while cleaning. The old ones were so heavy you almost couldnt manage them. Not this one...it is manageable and does a fantastic job. I am amazed at how much dirt it got out of my rugs and carpet. Excellent cleaner...great attachments and very user friendly!

I moved into a house for rent and the carpet appeared brown. No odor so I never knew it was packed with mud. I used this vacuum 4 times throughout the week and my carpet is now the original tan color. I can definitely tell whoever had this house before me smoked. The smell was obvious once I started but quickly went away near the end of the task. 10/10 money well spent.

Love, love, love this carpet cleaner! Does an outstanding job on my apartment carpets. I even used it on my apartment complex hallway carpet and stairs, which were filthy. Looks like new now! Lightweight, easy to use, easy to clean. Uses very little water and definitely sucks up what is sprayed onto carpet. Carpet dries withi 20 min. Have used it for two years. No issues.

Ten years ago I decided to buy a carpet cleaner , I read a ton of reviews and decided on the earlier version of this . And it was great . It blew up last week . So , I looked at reviews and the top machine was this one , a new and improved version . This version is a lot better . The water tank lasts longer . I like having a separate soap tank . This one dries as well . The only issue I had was the clean water tank doesn’t seem to sit properly , but that doesn’t seem to be an issue . If you want a carpet cleaner , this is it . $200 whereas the machine I bought ten years ago was closer to $400 . You only get a small bottle of soap this time , so pre-order soap . And a word of warning , a buddy of mine says in this machine to only use the Hoover soap , he has no skin in the game . Update ,based on experience with earlier model . Ok I’ve used it a few times now . It definitely makes the water go further . You don’t end up emptying the dirty water every five mins . I pretty much did a 20x14 carpet on two tanks . The separate soap bottle is a great idea , as you don’t mix it with the clean water , you don’t mind throwing the clean water away . It dries . They got rid of the “steam clean “ which had nothing to do with steam , didn’t even heat the water . Now that is deep clean or light clean , which is basically what the steam clean did , by increasing water flow . Being able to remove the nozzle for cleaning is a bonus , so much easier to clean now . Seems they have put a slightly longer cord on this version as well . You CAN do stairs , I don’t have stairs , but you can use the smaller nozzle and hose for that . Just remember you will be dragging the machine up your stairs in some cases . Once again , if you want a carpet cleaner , this is a damn good machine. And if you owned the earlier model , and liked it , you will love this version ,

I use this to deep clean my house, I have several rooms and stairs with carpets, and havent been deep cleaned for a while, with some noticeable stains on them. I bought this machine as well as the most powerful Hoover carpet cleaner I can find. It did clean the carpet for the rooms, but it will need some other carpet spot cleaner to soak the dirty spot first, then do multiple (3 to 5) passes to make it clean, and another maybe 3 passes with clean water and suctions only, then another 3 passes with suctions only to finish the clean without too much cleaner and water left in the carpet. This seems due to the brush and the suction are both not powerful enough. Also, its impossible to clean the corner of the wall with the regular head. The tool for stairs and corners has more issue for cleaning power, so it will take some effort to get the work done. However, as it gets the work done at last, I will still give a 3.5 stars here. Round up to 4 stars as its holiday season :-)

You have to buy a squeegee separately for this product and it Keeps the brushes from hitting the floor period without that squeegee it will scratch the floor
