We love legos in our house - we have many sets on display (mostly Star Wars). My sons room is nautical themed and this set is going to go perfectly in there. The end result is really adorable and there arent many sets that are black and white like this. We also love Disney and so this was really perfect for us. The build itself was quite fun. It was neat seeing the ship come together with the smoke stacks working at the end. I cringed when I saw the instructions for the paddles (lots of repetition) but it went faster than I thought. In the inside of the boat, the legos are actually a variety of colors, but then this all gets topped with the black & white. The little details that come together at the end like the potato bin and the pots and pans are really cute. My son has fun pushing the boat along and watching the paddles & smoke stacks move. Its fairly delicate so he occasionally breaks a piece off (especially the adjustable crane) but weve been able to get it back together no problem. Overall we all really love it because it was fun to build, is fun to play with, and looks really great on display.

Gave this to my son for his 8th birthday this past weekend. He is a high functioning kid with autism. He loves building and loves challenges. He worked on it through out the day, so I am estimating that it took him about 6-7 hours to complete. Only included one bout of crying from frustration and a little help from mommy, but he did a great job with getting it put together.

I liked how you could see everything ON THE OUTSIDE perfectly. What I didnt like is that the hook on the string you tie sometimes comes off.

Fun to put together. Have to follow diagrams in book carefully.

First let me say, Im a huge Lego and Disney fan so the idea of melding Lego with the absolutely iconic imagery of Steamboat Willie was just a fantastic idea in my humble opinion. So howd it turn out? * The build. A couple hours split into 3 sections - bag sets 1, 2, 3. Generally pretty good though this is why I dropped a star. The boat itself is very fragile and the build is a lot more delicate than many of the Expert builds Ive done. Whole sections will split off if youre not careful in properly supporting when adding bricks. Additionally, if youre not careful in maintaining proper clearances, the smokestacks will bind and no longer move up and down - though this is not uncommon for many build with mechanical moving pieces. * Colors. Yes, the exterior is mostly white with black and grey accents and it looks great when built. What I love about Lego is how they try to really keep it interesting even when the final color palate is quite simple. In this case the interior pieces are a rainbow of the original Lego primary colors with lots of reds, blues, yellows and greens. Really fun. * Model Design. Very nice and faithful as can be to the original iconic design. The moving smokestacks and spinning paddle wheels are just really neat and while a monochromatic Lego set may seem boring this just looks great. * Minifigures. Mickey and Minnie Mouse. 1928 Mickey is great but simple, the real standout for me is the 1928 Minnie Mouse - she is simply superb with her guitar and skirt in my opinion. Really wish it came with a Pete though, that would have just put the whole thing over the top. Maybe a goat as well. * Design booklet with notes about the designers and model is always a nice inclusion in these Lego Ideas sets. Box looks great as well and is very sturdy and reusable is desired. All in all a very nice set of an iconic source though I really do wish the boat itself was more durable. I suppose it isnt a huge deal as this is meant as more of a collectors piece and less as a toy but still. Even with that small gripe this is still a highly recommended set.

I got this for my mom, who’s a major Disney fan, and she loves it. I also recommend getting a light kit for it, it really ties it together. If you look at getting this as a gift for someone else, they’ll love it.
