I saw one of these in a youtube video. I couldnt believe that something so obviously wonderful wasnt on my workbench. So I bought one and WOW its great. Dont have one? Get one. The red handle makes it easy to find, too.

You are probably looking for a center punch if you are reading this and this one works well. It makes small notches in aluminum and steel that you can start a bit into as long as your bits work for the material. It really is just a center punch, stop reading this and buy one if you need one.

These Transfer punches are only fair. The letters are shallow and only make a light impression. Use a heavy hammer and strike once or you will have a mess.

Seems like a good buy. Havent used it much but it seems to be build well enough. So far, a good value for the money.
