NETGEAR 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Unmanaged Switch (GS308) - Home Network Hub, Office Ethernet Splitter, Plug-and-Play, Silent Operation, Desktop or Wall Mount

I purchased this in 2017 for my first home Ethernet system. We were signed up for 100m cable internet at the time and it worked well. This switch is gigabyte ready. 2022 and a new company is offering 600m fiber internet with TV for a little less than the cable company that boost to 200m for free to try and retain customers. After the installation, the internet looked good. Then later the same day the tv started buffering. I checked the speed and every test was different. No internet, 10m, 100m, 300m. The next day it stabilized at 97. I plugged my router into the fiber interface and it was showing 630m, I plugged into the router about the same, I plugged into the switch and 97m. I don’t know what the life of a residential use switch is but at some point we reached it and didn’t know till we upgraded our home internet. I went with TP-Link switch this time.

Easy as can be. Remove from box plug in power cable turn on plug in your cables make sure one of them goes to your router and your done.

I have other Netgear stuff and generally trust it as a good choice in my home, which is also my office and which is spread out over two stories and a fair bit of distance, so I decided to give this a try.

Netgears newest line of switches functions flawlessly and I haven’t had the first issue. These are plug and play and require no configuration to implement in your network. I’m running them in a fairly complex setup and haven’t had the first issue. They are priced fairly as well and although I haven’t had to contact support for this particular switch, their support is second to none and they have always been responsive for me. I use Netgear both personally and professionally and this switch is no exception to their quality and performance.

Plug n play, works awesome

For months I was accusing my ISP that their router was busted. It never occured to me that something as simple as a switch could fail in a non-obvious way. Turns out it can. All lights are on, but no traffic gets through. Then, a few hours later, it works again. A few days later it doesnt. And so on.

Everything works as expected. My signal is strong out of all ports. It is a solid unit. No better product for the price.
