Nintendo must have figured the series was getting stale because they really made this one different from the others. Removing some of the constants from previous games (gyms) and adding new stuff (pokepelgo and island scan) make it feel fresh. This feels more like a general RPG that just another pokemon game. My only con (I would deduct half a star if I could) is the fact they make some things too easy. For example, now it tells you in the fight what moves will be effective before you use it. That and some other stuff is a bit hand holdy but I guess they are hoping for unfamiliar players that started with Pokemon Go would begin the handheld series with Sun and Moon.

I had this game pre-ordered for the longest time, and I was extremely excited when it finally arrived. I opened it right away and started playing. Having played Pokémon games in the past, I could say this game is like no other. The new features theyve introduced in the games only enhance game play. The Alola region is beautiful and Im so happy with how the game turned out. The storyline is written very well and it takes a while to play the whole thing. Any Pokémon lover is going to like this game. The only downfall Ive realized is that the game takes quite long to load, in battles, and when saving the game. Other than that, no complaints!

By far the best Pokemon Game since the originals. I own two 3ds and since I bought both sun and moon I run them on both. The graphics cause the original 3ds to lag some, however theyre still amazing graphics and great games! I also really love the new regional variants they introduced here. I havent beat the games just yet, because Ive also been working but I look forward to playing the end game as well, after having heard good things about it as well! Minor downside if you ask me is the tutorial (wish there was an option to skip or give a condensed version) and cut scenes are a tad on the long side. However, they are enduring to the story lines!

POKEMON!!!!! Who doesnt love it? This game is great! Its super addicting. My husband and I bought each other the opposite games and both games were phenomenal. I would recommend buying one and using the online trade feature to get the game specific pokemon. The only reason I would buy both would be to get both legendaries because that can be a little more difficult. The Sun game functions in time with your 2ds/3ds clock. The Moon will be night time in the game when it is daytime according to your 2ds/3ds clock. The animation is so much more entertaining than previous games. You get a new main plot behind that game full of classic battles and other fun challenges. You can really customize your character. I dont want to say too much and spoil it. If you love pokemon you will love this game!

late to the program here, but i havent had time to play it i didnt buy it. i absolutely love this game, and it has possibly beaten pokemon gold&silver as my favorite pokemon game. i love alola, the alolan forms, the trial setup, and especially the fact that pokemon are finally integrated into daily life: your mom has a meowth, and there are pokemon npcs everywhere, from snubull to mimikyu. and you can hear pokemon cries mixed in with the soundtrack, which itself is amazing. my absolute favorite thing: the plot. no spoilers, but this plot actually had substance, as much for kids as for adults, as well as complex morals and touching on a family subject that isnt talked about ever, when it should be. i actually didnt get gen6 because i felt pokemon was going downhill in gens4 and 5, aka pearl/diamond/platinum and black/white. i just didnt enjoy them as much, they were too easy and simplistic, and i was done playing with them in less than 50h. also more than a few of the pokemon designs were unoriginal or even downright ugly (im looking at you, garbodor), which i still feel in sun&moon but the alolan forms helped a lot with that, along with creating less new pokemon and bringing back ones we hadnt seen in a long time, and the ultra beasts which i was leery of but turned out great. strangely for islands, you hardly spend any time in the water, which is a shame. trainer customisation is great, i really didnt like the bobble-head look of x/y. and pokemon ride! best idea ever. i realllly want them to bring back having your pokemon walk besides you. pokepelago and pokerefresh? more awesomeness. my faith in pokemon and nintendo has been restored. i might even get sun&moon2, depending on what they do with the plot and new content.

Ive been a Pokémon fan since Gen 1 and this game is one of best ones in my opinion. The story is immersive, theres plenty of content to play through, and its a visually stunning game overall. I am in love with this game and would love future Pokémon games to be of this caliber. The only things I noticed that irked me were during double battles theres a bit of lag. The frame rate drops noticeably. Also, theres some slow loading time during screen transitions. However, both of these things werent bad enough that it hindered the gameplay so its cool with me. Overall I would definitely recommend this game to old as well as new players. Theres plenty of content and fun to be found in the Alola region.

Pokemon Sun was one of the best games that I have ever played on the 3DS. This comes in as one of the best Pokemon games that I have played, with the exception of Soul Silver, on the basis of the extended story line. The storyline was amazing, but I was sad to see the game end so quickly. Playing after the game was over was not the real intention of the game, though, so I cant complain to GameFreak there. What made Soul Silver great, was that after you cleaned out and completed every part of Johto, you had an entire region to explore. Back to the product, though. Pokemon Sun had a beautiful storyline, and if you played the demo, you got a Greninja, which was a great companion if you chose Litten or Rowlet for your starter. I chose Litten, and I have almost always chosen fire, I chose Cyndaquil, Chimchar, and Charmander for some of the other games that I have played. The part that gets me down about this game is the end, but that really happens in any pokemon game. After you battle Red in Soul Silver, you feel so sad that the game is over. What I really wish the makers of Sun had did, was to let you journey to Kanto with Lillie and go with her as a companion, as in she was attached to you, and you did a lot of double battles in that point. I think that that would have made the game so much better, but I think that this game would become a $50 game, not a $35 game (If you bought it on Prime). This game was well made in all honesty, but I wish there was more after getting Solgaleo (The legendary). Thats my little rant, thank you for listening!

Gen 7 feels like the refresher that the Pokémon series has needed for a good while now. With a heavier focus on (a surprisingly mature) story of growing up, varied gameplay and challenges, a memorable cast and some charming new designs, its been a ton of fun for the past few weeks to play. The Ride Pager feature has made team building a breeze without the need to constantly fret over who to give what HM, and the Alola region is absolutely stunning to take in with its vibrant colors and beautiful music. The Z moves are a ton of fun, too, and make for some really wonderful finishing blows in battle. Sun is the most Ive been glued to a Pokemon game since back in 2007 with Diamond! So many little call backs and touches looking back on the series 20 years really hit a first gen fan like me. Game Freak has pushed the nostalgia buttons and its worked. Its not all perfect, though. The Call for Help mechanic is frustrating to deal with: It can make battles an infinite slog where the act of just catching one Pokémon becomes a tiring ordeal. Likewise the story can drag things out more than one might like, especially with how repetitive it can be early on. Plus, the fact that you really cant transfer from your previous gen games yet as of this review (an issue Nintendo and Game Freak have promised to have addressed by early next year) is annoying, but it also makes completing the Dex easier for now. Whether youre an old veteran to the series or someone looking to try a Pokémon game for the first (or maybe even trying to introduce your kids to the series), I highly recommend Sun and Moon!

What can I say? Great new addition to the Pokemon line. Ive been playing these games since Red/Blue first arrived and I had started to get a little weary of the same formula. Now, Im not one to suggest that GameFreak/Nintendo changed it up greatly, but it was a very pleasant discovery to learn that this game had changed the rather predictable pattern of the past games. The new features are pretty awesome and as a pokemon fan, it was a lot of fun. If youve never played a pokemon game and want to, either this or Moon would be a great starting point. Hours of fun. If youre like me and have played all the previous pokemon games, you can look forward to some well-thought and cleverly designed features that really are enchanting and add new play-ability to the franchise.

My new favorite Pokémon title. While Im not going to talk about the plot of Pokémon Sun, I have to briefly admit that I felt zero attachment towards Lillie, Hau, Gladion, Prof. Kukui, my own mother, or literally anyone else that made an appearance in this game. The characters didnt feel very deep, let alone interesting. However, Im not saying the game is bad; I just didnt experience any sort of connection with my family or friends. I really only cared about myself and my Pokémon, who all became the light of my life. I didnt give two craps about the drama going on with Lillies messed up mother, Team Skulls ridiculous but funny antics, the Ultra Beasts, or the island challenge itself. Despite my observation on the blandness of the characters, I absolutely loved the aspect of caring for your Pokémon with the Pokémon Refresh feature that was introduced in this game and its partner, Pokémon Moon. It felt super rewarding to max out the affection meter of each individual Pokémon you caught, especially when it gave your Pokémon EXP. boosts and occasionally made them break status effects or dodge attacks because they love you so much. Im on my second playthrough of this game and am now busy trying to get every Pokémon I own to level 100. I currently have over 200+ hours of gameplay on this save file, but Im still not anywhere near done with my leveling endeavor. Wish me luck!
