Considering the fact that his keyboard is meant for gaming, I think it does a pretty good job. I personally am not a gamer myself but I do a lot of typing; the keyboard feels nice and I love the color options. The few things that I noticed are that the keys are not high-quality and you can see that they came fresh off of an assembly line, as well as the cushion pads on the bottom of the keyboard are not the same height which makes the keyboard wobble as you’re typing— But you can just put a piece of paper or something underneath it to make it stable. Overall, I’m enjoying it so far and I will update as time goes by. **Update** I’ve been using this for a few days now. My big pet peeves are 1) the fact that the space key sounds different than the rest of the keys 2) the keyboard is SO SENSITIVE to even the slightest touch. I know I got the red keys, but this is a bit absurd. 3) the instruction manual is is broken English and very hard to understand.

Been using her for like a week, the browns are honestly pretty nice, i wouldnt call them holy pandas or anything but they definitely dont feel horrible. Little inconsistencies from key to key but its very minor. I havnt lost any switches but the main reason i say they could be switched out for better ones is that i see a lot of reviews saying frequently used keys stopped working within months. Easy fix i usually put my own switches in anyway. Pull key cap, pull switch, put new ones on. Its easy and a great benefit of the board being hotswappable. My ONLY question is WHERE IS THE RGB SOFTWARE THAT IT SHOWS IN THE INFORMATION SECTION???? Does that software not exist anymore or what cause i cant find it. There are three pictures showing different sections of a keyboard software that APPEARS to make the board programmable. and it SAYS the keyboard is programmable. but i havnt seen it on any website anywhere

My 10 yr old is obsessed with key boards. He does his re search and even has some great expensive high quality key boards I have purchased for him. This is by far his favorite. He has changed the keys on it but for preference in color and sound. He loves this keyboard better than his 300 dollar one.

One of the LEDs is already starting to discolor and I haven’t had this product for more than a month. All other features are great, but discoloration this early is disheartening.

The keyboard is pretty good out of the box - and even better at this price point. I ended up lubing all the switches and generously re-lubing the stabs. A lot of the rattle and ping comes from the stabs themselves. After doing both you get a smoother and more thoccy feel. I wish it still came with Kaihl switches, and I can’t speak on longevity of their own RK switches, but I can update the review if they ever fail prematurely. So far so good! It’s a great starter keyboard that’s hotswap with support for both 5pin and 3 pin switches. If you’re going to change the RGB just use the keyboard. The RK software does nothing on this keyboard…

Well built compact keyboard. From my short time using it so far (~1 week) I have noticed that some key strokes dont register when used wirelessly with my Windows laptop (BT or receiver). Doesnt appear to happen on my MacBook which is odd but Ive spent most of my time with this connected to my windows device. I had another wireless keyboard before this one which did not have this issue at all.

This was my first mechanical keyboard and I like many things about it. The main issue I have is there is no software on the official site to download for the RK61 RGB. So cannot customize the lighting. I do like the fact there are several lighting features and options built into the keyboard, so can get creative with the RGB lighting effects. The keyboard is very bright, has a nice thocky sound, and the keys feel nice. The coiled cable is a nice touch, and the very small size is nice vs. the giant keyboard I replaced. Overall, I like using it, just very let down I cannot customize the lighting effects.

To conclude, the Royal Kludge RK61, in my opinion, is one of the best budget alternatives to the popular Anne Pro 2 when it comes to 60% compact keyboards. The layer implementation on this keyboard is very well thought off with a combination of both activating each layer and toggling it using the FN key which makes transitioning to this compact form factor much easier for beginners. The typing experience, for the most part, is very good with the RK red switch having a smooth up and down travel, my only issue is with the quite rattly spacebar. Gaming performance is also pretty decent in both wired and wireless mode since NKRO works properly on both. Although I had some issues with Bluetooth connectivity on one of my 2 RK61, the one that I’ve been using for months now as a backup keyboard works flawlessly without any perceivable latency which is very vital. The battery endurance is also quite substantial with power-saving mode. Overall, there’s not much to complain about this keyboard and for its price, I don’t think there’s any reason not to get it if you’re looking for the best budget 60% compact keyboard.

It is worth the money and a really great typing experience. Takes a while to get used to the function keys.

Edit 01/29/20: Theres something wrong with this board. My first one had this weird issues where some keys would continually register. For example, if I pressed the A key once, the keyboard would think I was holding the key down and input an infinite number of A keystrokes. I had a replacement board set and it happened again. It doesnt happen often, I usually just unplug the keyboard and plug it back in. This happened on the original and the replacement, with different USB C cables, and on different computers. I love the keyboard, but this is an annoyance for sure Overall, Im happy. I went from a TKL Outemu Red switch gaming keyboard to this 60% (not sure if Kailh or Outemu) Brown switch keyboard. So far, its great. The lighting effects are plentiful an awesome. I swapped in the HyperX White Pudding keycaps and the RGB looks even better now. The switches feel pretty good for browns and the stabilizers are totally fine, despite some of the other reviews. I plan to use this in wired mode for gaming. However, I tested out bluetooth just for daily use (such as web browsing), and it works flawlessly. Im very happy with this keyboard.
