Updated (October 2022) - the seller reached out to to offer a warranty replacement / refund, so I’ve updated my overall rating to reflect my experience with the keyboard prior to when the ‘A’ key stopped working. I also pulled the keyboard apart to see if I could identify the issue causing the ‘A’ key to not work. There appears to be a broken solder joint on the component that contacts the switch. - - - - - - - - - - Original Review - - - - - - - - - - - As much as Id like to recommend this keyboard due to the combination of price & features, Id strongly consider another make & model instead. I purchased this keyboard in January 2022 and used it daily for both work & personal use until the A key spontaneously stopped working in September 2022. Swapping in a known good switch did not resolve the problem and the switch that was installed in the A key position works fine in other positions. Based on this, Id guess a component came unsoldered from the PCB or something similar. I contacted the product support link that Amazon has attached to my order, but they informed me they are a RK reseller, not the manufacturer. And evidently they werent the seller for my Amazon order, so they cant provide support... Absent of the spontaneous failure, Id probably rate this as a 4-star keyboard. Since it broke in such a short amount of time, and I cant get product support, I cant rate it anything higher than 1-star. Unfortunately it looks like this one is just going to end up in the electronics recycling pile. PROS - Supports BT, 2.4GHz wireless (with USB-A dongle) or USB-C wired connection - Supports multiple BT devices (easily switch between them with a key combo) - Supports Windows & Mac - Battery powered allows for fully wireless use - Compact size makes it easy to transport - Red switches have a nice feel & sound - LED lighting & effects are a nice-to-have feature CONS - The keyboard is pretty tall and can be uncomfortable without a wrist rest - Battery life isnt great, especially when LED effects are used - Difficult to find working firmware updates / software from Royal Kludge - The key combos for changing functionality arent fully documented in the manual (or on-line) - Manufacturer website / product support is difficult (impossible?) to find - Product durability is sub-par (my A key quit working after ~9 months)

So I have used this daily since I bought it about a month ago. The build quality is good but not great. I have seen better and I have also seen much much worse at this price. I got the blue switches and they are really really nice for the money. Just not for an office environment. The wireless works pretty good when gaming only really had a few hiccups playing some fast paced fps games. The wired connection I havent tried yet. The bluetooth works well most of the time. I bought this keyboard for the sole purpose to use with Samsung dex. When you start dex it works great. If you have to do a lot of text editing or writing more than a few lines in a document. It falls apart pretty quickly. When typing after a while it will fail to show up correctly on screen with characters being out of place or the first letter being at the end of the word. Not a deal breaker for me though. The price and the ability to travel with it very well makes up for that. Overall I would say that it is definitely worth the money for the switches alone. As long as you keep your expectations in line with the price it is a great keyboard.

It is worth the money and a really great typing experience. Takes a while to get used to the function keys.

I got this keyboard and it has a really nice rgb, one of the best ones i have seen at this price range, it is great out of the box but i would recommend some modding such as foam, i got the blue switches but i switched it out to my own starfish switches which are linear now, this board has a lot of compatibility, but I’ll really recommend a holee mod on the stabilizer out of the box, but that up to you, if you had the financial power you might as well get a durock v2 stabilizer kit, after all the modding this keyboard turned out great

I purchased it for my daughter to use with her Samsung tablet. It gives her typing practice. I like the « clicks » sound it makes, just like a computer keyboard. Now, she can use her tablet as a tablet or a computer.

This keyboard was great for a long time. I bought a little over 6 months ago and have since lubed the switches (Gateron Browns) and even swapped out the keycaps to a sweet vintage looking pbt set. Now right off the bat the performance of this keyboard is great while plugged in, no issues at all. I dont mind really having to use the function keys to use the arrow keys at all. The problem was when i try to use bluetooth. I really imagined this as the perfect keyboard for me to take on the go to do some programming for games at coffee shops to switch between my ipad pro and my laptop seamlessly. And it was that for some time (though never at an actual coffee shop for obvious reasons). Bluetooth would connect easily enough and switching between devices was a breeze. And then one day, it didnt. Just out of the blue one day it stopped connecting to bluetooth. I cant even get into bluetooth settings where the keyboard flashed red to signal that you are switching between different bluetooth devices. Every once in a while it would magically work again, which would make me think that I did something wrong and accidentally hit a combo of keys that disabled it. However after using software that (i had to hunt down on the internet for by the way) it not work. Now the bluetooth is completely shot and unusable. This is really dissappointing because I loved this keyboard and I want to love it again but I just doesnt do what I need to do. I cannot recommend this keyboard, I would just get the purely wired one for less money. unfortunately I now have to shell out money to pay for a more expensive keyboard that works. Royal Kludge if youre hearing this, please fix this and Ill update the review.

I got the red switches in mine with white keycaps to really show off the RBG. The sound right off the bat was pretty good, I filled the keycaps with UV resin because I want the THOCK. Im also going to lube the switches and put foam in it as well but those mods will come about later. Now for the keyboard itself! Its honestly pretty great. It has a solid weight and the sound isnt too bad out of the box either. The switches feel nice but I feel like some lube will be pretty great for these tbh. I did have to replace one of the switches right away because it kept actuating even after I released it. There were four replacement switches included so it was really easy to just use the included tool to swap it out and that fixed the problem. its also pretty nice to type on in terms of height. Its at the right height for me so its been pretty easy to adjust to.

Need to learn a lot of macros to compensate for less keys but works as intended

To conclude, the Royal Kludge RK61, in my opinion, is one of the best budget alternatives to the popular Anne Pro 2 when it comes to 60% compact keyboards. The layer implementation on this keyboard is very well thought off with a combination of both activating each layer and toggling it using the FN key which makes transitioning to this compact form factor much easier for beginners. The typing experience, for the most part, is very good with the RK red switch having a smooth up and down travel, my only issue is with the quite rattly spacebar. Gaming performance is also pretty decent in both wired and wireless mode since NKRO works properly on both. Although I had some issues with Bluetooth connectivity on one of my 2 RK61, the one that I’ve been using for months now as a backup keyboard works flawlessly without any perceivable latency which is very vital. The battery endurance is also quite substantial with power-saving mode. Overall, there’s not much to complain about this keyboard and for its price, I don’t think there’s any reason not to get it if you’re looking for the best budget 60% compact keyboard.
