Good drive, a heatsink is recommended if you are a using it for photo and video work as it gets toasty in a laptop chassis. Mine came with latest firmware.

Used it in an HP notebook PCIe gen 3 and worked perfectly, at 3500 Mbps sequence read and write. No problem with the temperature for the moment.

FYI if Running Intel 10th Gen Processors this will not run at its full speed potential. You need an 11th gen Intel chip or newer to take full advantage of PCI-4.0 NvME slot (which this chip is really designed for) Also recommend downloading the Samsung Magician app to install and optimize this drive.

Got this beast for $149 marked down on sale from $384. Awesome value. Put all of my games on here and love it.

I only get a write speed of 540 MB/s and a read speed of 1.5 GB/s and the price dropped rapidly after I bought but I was unable to cancel my order despite over a week of delays before shipping

In total, I have three of these now. Two are in Z690 motherboards (one with an i7-13600K and another with an i5-12600K) and the other is in a Z390 (i5-9600K). For the i7 machine, the SSD is in the M.2 slot connected to the CPU directly and for the i5, its connected via the chipset. After running Crystal Disk Mark a couple of times there is no performance difference (indiscernible or otherwise) between the drive connected to the CPU directly (with the i7) and the drive connected to the chipset (with the i5). Both get close to 7GB/sec read times. Write times are about 4.5GB/sec, which is way faster than anything I need. Even though Im not totally blown away by their performance, theyre still very good SSDs.

Unleash the power of the world’s No.1 memory flash drive brand since 2003. Samsung 980 PRO PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD for next-level computing delivers twice the data transfer rate of PCIe 3.0, while maintaining compatibility with PCIe 3.0. Experience SSD performance with read speeds of up to 7,000 MB/s² and push the limits of what SDs can do. Powered by a new in-house controller that is designed to harmonize the flash memory components and the interface for superior speed, with a PCIe 4.0 interface that’s twice as fast as PCIe 3.0 SSDs and 12X faster than Samsung SATA SSDs5, every component of this NVMe SSD is manufactured by Samsung for performance that lasts. High performance SSDs usually require high performance thermal control. That’s why to ensure stable performance, the 980 PRO uses nickel coating to help manage the controller"s heat level and a heat spreader label to deliver effective thermal control of the NAND chip. Designed for hardcore gamers and tech-savvy users, the 980 PRO memory card offers high-performance bandwidth throughput for heavy-duty applications in gaming, graphics, data analytics, and more. It"s fast at loading games, so you can play more and wait less. The Samsung 980 PRO also comes in a compact M.2 2280 form, which can be easily plugged into desktop PCs and laptop computers, and due to its size and optimized power efficiency, it’s ideal for building high-performance computing systems.
