It was not especially difficult to set up the Seagate Backup Plus Slim for use by Time Machine, on our 2014 MacBook running OS 10.9. I have used it also after I upgraded the laptop to OS 10.12. A quirk I didnt expect was the laptop must be using the AC adapter or Time Machine wont back up to the drive. It limits this methods usefulness for a laptop compared to for a desktop computer. I have used it a few months and it seems to work fine, although I havent tried to retrieve anything yet from the drive. All I have to do is just plug the drive and the power supply, of course, into the Macbook. However, one time I plugged the drive in only to find later that it wasnt communicating with the computer. After I unplugged the drive and plugged it back in, it was fine. The takeaway is to verify by looking for the drives icon on the desktop. On the other hand, I once left the drive upside down, and it still seemed to work okay. But I wouldnt recommend doing it. The 2 TB is more than we need for this laptop. I had wondered whether I could partition the disk and use it to back up with Time Machine on 2 Macs. But I didnt expect it, and it doesnt seem possible since Time Machine reformats the whole disk as a single volume. Im pleased with the purchase, though, were I to get another external drive for a Macbook, I might see whether a LaCie would be more advantageous.

It was a simple installation. More than enough capacity for my needs. Have not had the opportunity to download from it yet.

I like the idea behind this device and the good reputation of this company and their components. That said, I have most of the details of this device worked out, but am not completely happy with it.

It comes up with an error message saying it cant find things? The last one I had didnt do that.

Had to figure out how to get it to auto store (and not every hour). Works fine, kind of disappears.

Great drive! It gets about 20mb s speed when copying video files over. It takes 3.5hours to copy 226gb. I tried adding a photo review but my device does not let me (Amazon fire tablet)

Purchased for my xbox one because I only have 500GB of storage and my friends like to hop around on different games. I hated having to uninstall/reinstall different games just to play with them. And thats not included my own games that I play alone, as well. Hooked it up to the xbox via the one of the usb ports on the back side and the xbox prompted me to format the harddrive for gaming use. Instantly started downloading all of my games and had no issues! I will say, at first I couldnt get the external harddrive to turn off when I would turn off my xbox. The secret is going to your system settings and selecting turn off storage when xbox is off and also going to the updates/downloads setting and turning off auto update console and auto update games/apps. The auto updates/downloads options are directly linked to your games, which, if theyre on your external harddrive, they need to be accessible, i.e. the harddrive needs to be on or on standby (the light will be on). After I finished the above-mentioned settings, I turned my xbox off (on standby, NOT hard shutdown). I noticed the harddrive light wasnt turning off so then I did a hard shutdown and I think thats when the settings really were executed. Now the harddrive stays off when xbox is off/on standby. It also does not overheat. It gets a little warm, which is expected, but never too hot to the touch or anything. Im definitely happy with this purchase because its made my gaming life a lot more convenient/efficient and Ive already recommended it to my friends.

Far more compact and lightweight than the one I bought 5 yrs ago!
