Nice compact lens, good build quality for the price of less than 100pounds.I think this lens looks nicer than its new design replacement, its the same specification, and around 50 pounds cheaper, and has a nice focusing ring. And looks great on my nex 7,buy this lens and feel a warm glow inside

I bought this lens after David Taylor-Hughes and Roger Cicala independently described it as the lens deal of the year. If you want a dissenting view, see Kurt Mungers review: he suggests this lens is too similar to the 18-55mm kit zoom lens that most NEX owners already have (the Sigma allows larger aperture, the zoom has SteadyShot). Like others here, I have found this lens sharp, smallish, lightweight, inexpensive, and a useful focal length. However, for my style of photography, I think Kurt has a valid point.

I love the sharpness of this lens and fast enough AF. Although my 30mm rattles very little as opposed to the 19mm cousin focus motor can be heard in movies especially when the lens is pointed down (Even in MF)...nonetheless price (140) makes it the best purchases you can make for your MFT camera.

Favorite lens in my kit now. Im a wedding photographer and I used to use a 50mm and 85mm, now I barely touch them. There is no in body stability though, so if you want to do video, youll need a gimbal or a6500.

I purchased a Sony a6500 bundle that came with the excellent Sony 18-135 zoom and the 50mm 1.8 lenses. Both are great lenses but my setup was missing a prime in the versatile 50mm equivalent range (the Sony 50mm acts like a 75mm lens on the a6500 because of this camera sensor’s 1.5x crop factor). This Sigma 30mm performs like a 45mm lens which is close enough to the 50mm range. And with that gaping f1.4 aperture it delivers some beautiful bokeh when desired.

Sigmas 30mm F1.4 is a remarkably sharp and bright lens for its size and price. Excellent image quality and build with one fairly substantial flaw. The manual focus ring is incredibly sensitive making precise adjustments difficult. If ones camera is set to Focus Magnify you will notice, with even a jostle of the camera body, the lens instructs the camera body to magnify its display. This is, of course, only an issue when manually focusing, in all other instances the lens preforms remarkably well.

This review is based on my use of this lens on an NEX-7. The test was conducted with the NEX-7 mounted on a tripod. Shutter was released by timer or by wireless infrared remote.
