Sigma 30mm F1.4 Contemporary DC DN Lens for Sony E

I own this lens and the sony 50 mm f1.8 prime, which I purchased at the same time. This lens is my go to for most situations when I am working with people, inside or out. I find that this lens provides me with consistent performance and that the image quality is very, very good. While this lens is certainly larger than a lot of other options, the functions are very smooth, the autofocus is decent (I have yet to find one that I would call perfect), and for the price of this lens, I dont think there is anything else that is going to come close. I would certainly recommend this lens to anyone. (buy a kit... you will pay the same price for the lens, but with some SD cards or other accessories thrown in with it)

... aber das Zweite ist super. Für meine Canons habe ich Sigma immer gemieden wegen der berichteten Serienstreuung und Kompatibilitätsproblemen. Das ist wohl die Rache ;-) Beim ersten 30mm verweigerte das Objektiv, sich der Kamera zu erkennen zu geben. Es lag eindeutig nicht an der Kamera (NEX C3). Nun läuft der Nachfolger prima. Wie auch schon sein Vorgänger ist die hohe Schärfe, insbesondere in Anbetracht der kleinen Konstruktion schon sehr beeindruckend. An der NEX C3 überzeugt es über das gesamte Bild und schon bei Offenblende. Das Bokeh ist ebenfalls sehr schön, die Verzeichnung zu vernachlässigen. Als Immerdrauf an APS-C (hier x1,5) als Normalbrennweite sehr zu empfehlen, vor allem wenn man den kreativen Spielraum einer Festbrennweite schätzt.

This lens is sharper than I expected for the price. Looks nice, not very big. The autofocus is nice and quick even in low light

I use this lens with my Sony A6300 and I absolutely love it. The wide aperture is amazing for low light situations, and makes for some beautiful images. And, while many prime lenses seem to suffer from a decrease in sharpness at such wide apertures, I havent notice anything of the sort with this lens. Its a nice solid quality metal construction, though with the A6300 that does mean its a little front heavy.

I dont know why I waited so long to buy this lens. I guess I thought my Sony Zoom 2.8 was fine, and it really is fine. But for video, this lens with its 1.4 aperture produces amazing results with a beautifully blurred background (bokeh) and the image is sharp. Cant recommend it enough!

This review is based on my use of this lens on an NEX-7. The test was conducted with the NEX-7 mounted on a tripod. Shutter was released by timer or by wireless infrared remote.
