Sony WH-1000XM4 Wireless Premium Noise Canceling Overhead Headphones with Mic for Phone-Call and Alexa Voice Control, Black WH1000XM4

I was looking for headphones for work and personal usage. I did a lot of research and it was clear that there was no one model that was best at everything. So, I prioritized what I was looking for (in rough order):

There are two major flaws. The swivels that connect the earcup housing are extremely weak and WILL break within a year or so. The right side broke in 10 months and the left one broke 2 months after the first damage. The problem will be solved if I can find the swivels only and replace. But in reality, Sony does not make swivels and you would have to buy a whole new earcup housing which is about $150. Obviously, this is not something youd expect from a decent $350 headphone that is less than a year old and it does not make sense to spend another $150 for cheaply made plastics (that will break again) for $350 headphone.

The sound is OK. I have two issues that are extremely frustrating and appear to be common all over the web:

These headphones have amazing sound, comfort, noise cancelling, and battery life. Huge step up from Airpods. They look good and the case, charger, and audio cable are compact and convenient. Although they dont have physical controls I was able to learn the touch controls after a couple days.

My husband is working from home in our loft. We haven’t gotten the walls built yet, so these were necessary! He’s absolutely happy! I have to tap his shoulder to get his attention. I have 12 yr old twins. Glad we bought the highest recommended top of the line. Worth the extra $50-70.

I cant believe theres no way to adjust the volume when the touch panel isnt working. Which is almost always so far. And the app you have to use to change any settings isnt available on my TV so its useless. Also the app is very basic and not too functional. I dont understand how these headphones get such a high rating. Looks like Im going to return them. Not happy about all the time I wasted. Also its disgusting that you have absolutely no phone support when your product doesnt work!!!

When I bought WF-1000XM3, I was thinking I dont need to think about any other travel accessory, but information about these headphones were coming from all directions. I finally gave up and purchased these as my first full-size travel headphones. I like them and use them extensively for my travel entertainment except calls - I dont trust sound quality of any wireless devices for calling.

Was in the market for headphones I can wear at the gym comfortably and found these on sale so I said screw it. I have the in-ear buds made by Sony and the sound quality was amazing so I figured these would be 10x better since they’re 4x the price. Guess that’s not how it works anymore? The in-ear ones I have (specifically the WF-XB700) honestly sound better. There’s more bass, I can get the volume louder, and the music doesn’t sound so far away. Don’t get me wrong, the features of these headphones are pretty cool, but definitely do not warrant the price tag. Should’ve went with the Bose ones I was debating on instead smh
