07-06-2025This product is great. We use it to tap birch trees. There are sturdy and do not rust easily. You would definitely need a hammer to get in the tree though.

> 3 dayI like these spiles! They are solidly built, and easy to use. The smaller diameter means they are not as hard on the maple trees as traditional 7/16” varieties. The only caveat I would add is that you have to be sure to get all of the sawdust out of the hole drilled, as it can otherwise clog this spile. Once that’s done, they work great! Completely happy with these’

> 3 dayVery sturdy and well made. However, the crazy warm winter ruined sap season in our area this year. Hopefully will get more use next year.

> 3 dayMake sure to wash and rinse to remove machining oil. Much better than plastic taps but pricey.

> 3 dayExcellent taps, but hooks are too small and there is no way to accommodate a lid. I ended up zip tying the lids to the hooks, but next year I will have to look for another hook system as it is too small to hold the bucket safely. (one was knocked off and spilled about 1.5 gallons of sap)

> 3 dayThe style I was sent in 2021 has a bell or fluted shape to the end of the tap where 5/16 tubing would be attacked. Since the tip flares out, 5/16 tubing will not fit. I was a able to split the end of the tubing with a razor and shimmy it on,but def not ideal and almost caused a major issue for me as I was set up to install with a tube to 5gal. bucket system. Otherwise these are some seriously heavy duty beautiful taps. I noticed one review said he was worried about bending the tip when tapping into tree...You should NEVER be hitting any tap (metal or plastic) hard enough to bend it. These taps go in with 4 or 5 light taps super easy. If you are hitting any tap hard enough to worry about bending, you are driving your tap past the sap wood and potentially causing serious damage to the tree. Please do your research before you start drilling holes in live trees.
