Strathmore 566-8 500 Series Hardbound Mixed Media Art Journal, 8.5x11 32 Sheets

Pages are good quality but cover is rough and not as good. Size was a little off of what my previous 11x14 in Strathmore sketch book was.

This book is huge. I purchased this size because of Karen Campbell, Artist. I have other sized Strathmore Journals - it is a joy working in them. This size will be a challenge for me - lets see if it will become a favourite as well.

Love this paper, so far I have had no bleed through. Ive used watercolor, watercolor pencils, sharpie pens, copic markers, tombow markers, Montana paint pens.... So much more but these are the messiest I could think of. Also matte gel, gesso..

Couldnt wait to start painting in it, Ive been looking for an affordable sketchbook that could withstand paintings like oils acrylics.

It doesn’t lay flat that troubles my painting. The paper is off white. Its 100% cotton paper can hold water quite good, and wet in wet technique is ok but not that excellent. Water leaks through to other pages if you paint across left to right page ( I hope I communicate correctly). It’s ok for a beginner like me. However I think I’ll buy another brand for my next watercolor journal.

Nice thick paper that doesnt allow soak through. However, it is not very absorbent if you use very wet media such as watercolor. The paper is super smooth, which is great for ink line work and sketching in charcoal. I found that Zendoodles in black ink with white highlights really look great on this paper.

I do a lot of full pieces in ink, marker, highlighter, etc. And this sketchbook is great for that. Just be mindful, it does bleed. Through the back of the page. If youre worried about it bleeding onto the page under it I havent encountered that just yet, but I suggest using an extra buffer between them if youre using a ton of ink. Other than that. I love this book.

It may be a little pricey but I think its worth the money.

I use mine mainly for gouache and it handles it fine, no bleed-through. Sketching is perfect on it, smooth paper. Made very well, binding is great, tons of pages, will last a long time! Great value for sure. Would buy again.
