> 3 dayI gesso on them but I really don’t need to. I just wanted a slightly more intense black. I’ll buy these again. Perfect for what I create.

> 3 dayBe aware that this really has a vellum (smooth) finish. Its not misleading as it says so, but I didnt pay enough attention. The paper does not have any tooth. The cover little picture looks like it has been done on a toothy surface, but thats not what you get. So I dont feel its appropriate for charcoal or pastels. I dont think Ill use it for watercolor either, although maybe you could if you dont mind the smooth finish. It is nice heavy paper, and I like the tone. Ill use it for color pencil, I think. Ill try it with pen and ink, and see. Its not a waste, just not exactly what I hoped for. But I didnt read carefully enough.

Greater than one weekThe paper like most strathmore is great quality. It is thick like cardstock, takes pencil and glue well. I was expecting 8x10 sheets and these are a little small for what I was going to initially use it for so I may have read the description too quick but still its great quality mixed media paper so Im giving it 5 stars despite the size.

> 3 dayI like the thickness and tone of the paper. But the paper is a bit too smooth and doesnt respond as well to wet media as Id like.

Greater than one weekI like using this to play around with my watercolors and some cheap colored pencils. You have to paint using some intense values to show up on the pigmented paper. I love the change of pace rather than painting on white watercolor paper. You can paint on both sides of the sheet without any bleeding. My only wish is that the paper had a stronger tooth/grit, but all-in-all, Im having a lot of fun and will buy this again when Ive used it all up.

> 3 dayCompared to Strathmore’s 400 Series toned gray and tan “Sketch” series papers (80 lb. weight, recycled, with visible fibers in the surface) this seems to me to be the exact same colors and surface quality except that it’s noticeably thicker at 184 lb. weight. I will say that you’ll find the “Vellum” surface of this heavyweight mixed media paper to be a wee bit ‘harder’ than the “Medium” surface of the lighter weight sketch paper - in other words, the latter is a little bit more ‘matte’ in finish and to me will show ever-so-slightly deeper darks using a test of quick strokes and side by side tests. The papers look exactly the same, and great results can indeed be had with graphite with either. — Attached photo shows a small graphite drawing on the heavyweight gray Mixed Media paper.

> 3 daySuperb paper for ink sketches, the toned pages really add something special to my work. Strong backboard make this pad great for plein air work.
