Greater than one weekThis is a very nice, sturdy, and properly sized umbrella. Some umbrellas like this are very large and tedious to carry. Not this one. Also, the material is of high quality and is very effective in shielding you from the suns rays.

> 3 dayI think for the price it by it’s very durable and sturdy. The only complaint is that it is hard to pull down to close it without having to use all of your strength.

> 3 daySo Im a cancer patient. Supposed to stay out of sun. I used this umbrella for the 5 hours I was outside in constant overcast with drizzle conditions in florida. I did not put on additional sunblock. My shoulders, neck, face, and head were extremely burnt when I returned indoors. Ill keep the umbrella for rain showers because it is compact... but please do not make my mistake and think you can substitute for needing high spf coverage sunblock or a long sleeve and a hat.

> 3 dayI have long used umbrellas for sun protection. This is the best one I have found so far. There are three main points. First, the top is silver in color and highly reflective. This is good because it does not transmit a lot of heat downward in the hot sun. Some umbrellas are black on top, and that makes no sense if heat is an issue. Second, the underside is black, and that is good. UV radiation reflects from all around just like normal visible light; it does not only come from above. The bright sand on the beach is sending lots of UV in your direction. So the underside should not reflect that UV radiation back down toward you. A blue color is the worst, since blue is very close to UV in the radiation spectrum, and a bright blue underside means that the reflective UV is hitting you. Black is the best since it reflects very little of anything. The third point is that the umbrella works well as a push button collapsible. One push and the umbrella is up and covering you, and another push and it is collapsed. Some other umbrellas do this as well, but this feature in a UV umbrella is nice. It collapses small so I can carry it in my motorcycle bag.

> 3 dayI tried researching to find a UV umbrella that was decently durable and came across this one with the best reviews. I purchased exclusively for afternoon soccer games and it has saved me from some pretty hot days! Im Irish and very pale so living in florida provides me with a subtly pink complexion all year round which of course is not desirable. Ive been needing a UV umbrella for a while and finally decided it was time since my son started soccer this year. Its not huge but not small and the perfect size for sitting on the sidelines next to and in front of several people. It doesnt hit anyone next to me and provides me with the shade I need to protect my skin. I will say that the last game there was a few wind gusts and everyone called me Mary Poppins because the umbrella blew inside out a couple times but did not break or malfunction and I was able to pop it back the correct way. I have not used it while raining so I cant attest to its ability there but I would only use this to block sun. Overall a great and necessary buy.

> 3 day1 Star. (SEE UPDATE BELOW and excuse long review but needed). At first, umbrella seemed to be just right and worked fine. About a week ago, it wouldnt close. It seems to be jammed in a stuck open position no and no matter how hard I try (short of breaking it), it will not close. Three weeks and it no longer works? What the heck! It is now useless because how do you go around town trying to enter/exit car or stores with a umbrella that will not close. Today, I have contacted seller through Amazon, explained the situation, and asked for a replacement or refund. Although with a replacement, I run the risk of ending up with the same issue. Well see. I will update this post as to whether or not seller resolves this problem fairly. If they do not, I will highly recommend against buying this item and describe in more detail its apparent poor/cheap design. Yes, it is only a $20 umbrella but who would expect it to only work for 3 weeks before going bad. If not for this issue, I would have given this product at least 4 stars because its a great sun protection device and a perfect size. For now though, I just gave away $25 bucks for nothing (yet). UPDATE: 4 stars. Great customer service! Just two days afters my initial complaint submittal a new, replacement umbrella has arrive at my doorstep. Sun Grubbies customer service contacted me one day after my complaint, apologized, and said a replacement would be out asap. So to their credit, they backed up their merchandise and proved to be a reliable, trustworthy company. I would surely do business with them again. Regarding the umbrella. The replacement seems to work just fine and I will, to be on the safe side, open and close it extra gently in hopes that I dont encounter the same problem as before (not that I caused it). I will give benefit of the doubt that the first umbrella going bad on me was a fluke. Where as my initial rating was 1 star (see above), my new rating (which includes great customer service)is now a legit 4 stars. Umbrella open/closes fine, provides great sun protection, its not too heavy, it looks like a sun umbrella, and it appears decently built - time will tell. No problem recommending a buy for this item. UPDATE #2 (9-24-12): Still 4 stars! Have had this umbrella for over a year not and it still works great. I do though open and close it with attention to how Im doing it to be sure I dont inadvertently jam it or force it. I always use the attached strap to secure it close and then toss it in the back seat of my car to be prepared for the next sun scorching day. I still recommend this item and would buy it again should the need arise.

> 3 dayI got this for my mom so she can keep a little cooler on long walks. Its definitely shiny and reflective, but I guess I expected it to be more lightweight or portable or something because its supposedly for sun rather than rain. I havent weighed it or anything, but just by feel, other than the shininess it seems pretty indistinguishable from other (usually cheaper) travel umbrellas.
