Ive had bad experience with HDDs, everytime I buy one it last for 1 or 2 years and then it falls on the ground somehow and breaks. So I thought that I should be the hardest one out there so I got this one Then it feels creaky when I but a small pressure on it with my hands so it feels like LOL does it really lasts some damage...!!! On the product side, its fast and good working. When I tried using bit-locker on it (unlike other HDDs that took long time) it was encrypted instantly But the software included feels like s*** so I dont use the software to begin with. Overall, love and I hope to see some improvements in the future

Pros: - Sturdy enclosure, without being too bulky - Rubberized outer casing (doesnt slip around on surfaces) - Can be powered with only one USB plug - Fast USB 3.0 transfer speeds Cons: - Sometimes got fairly hot - Enclosure failed after a year and a half I purchased this hard drive at the end of December 2012, and it lasted till May 2014 before failing unexpectedly. I used it primarily as a drive to store data while away from home, and as a drive where I could carry large photo/video projects with me while traveling on work trips. The drive functioned fine for the most part--The transfer speeds were surprisingly robust, though it did sometimes get unusually hot. I never had any reason to doubt its durability though, and it seemed like it was built to last. Sadly, on the first day of my most recent work trip, the device completely failed without warning. In the middle of accessing files for a project, the drive disconnected, and became unresponsive. Plugging in the second USB plug for additional power didnt help, and there was no sign of the device being connected in the Device Manager (Windows 8). I tried it on a second computer (Mac 10.8) and with a different cable, but neither option helped. Despite everything I tried, the drive appeared dead. The device was still under warranty, but I desperately needed to access projects still stored on the drive. Instead of going through the hassle of trying to get a warranty replacement, I ordered an off-brand 2.5 USB 3.0 enclosure, tore open the Transcend casing (voiding my warranty in the process), and put the bare drive into the replacement housing. Thankfully, the drive popped up in Windows Explorer (with all my data intact), and everything appears to be working great in the new enclosure. So for whatever reason, it seems the circuitry in the Transcend enclosure was at fault. I never dropped/mishandled the unit, and never put stress on the connector. And to Transcends defense, this drive is built like a tank. Beneath the outer rubber layer is a shell of hard plastic, underneath which is another cage of rubber, before finally reaching the drive itself. I have no doubts that it would survive a drop or twelve, and would compare the housings build quality to that of an OtterBox phone case. Sadly, it seems I simply had bad luck when it came to quality control.

Have about a dozen of these for my photos. Never have had any issues with them like other WD drives. Sleek and well made.

I got this drive several days ago and overall, I am Very pleased. Just a heads up for potential buyers: This has me puzzled. This is a 1 TB drive (i.e.1,000 GB), yet it comes pre-formatted with a FAT32 filesystem. What this means is, it cannot hold a file any larger than 4 GB (about 0.4% of the drives capacity). So if you have some very large files greater than this size, before you can copy and store them on this drive, you have to reformat it to NTFS filesystem. Not really a big deal, just copy off the preloaded software, reformat it, put the original software back on if you want. I did not do a low level format, just a Windows quick format that took about a minute. After this, no problem, I am copying 50 GB files to it w/o a problem. But, it did catch me off guard that such a large capacity drive would be formatted with an antiquated, limited filesystem. Other than this, Highly recommended!

I have only had this drive for about a week now and it seems to be well built. Acts just like any other USB hard drive. However I purchased this drive on this basis of a review that stated this drive worked with the PS4. It definitely does NOT work with the PS4. Works great for with the PS3 but NOT the PS4. Which is the reason for the 4 stars and not 5. The PS4 will not even recognize that this device has been connected much less use it as a USB drive. I hope this helps those that look at this drive for the same purpose I did and reads the same review that I read and can make an INFORMED decision based on the review of someone that actually bought the drive for the same purpose.

I wanted to begin with saying this Transcend hard drive has saved me from a continuous headache. Trying to figure out where to move all of this data. I am a photographer so i have ran though my regular external hard drives like water in the storm drains. As far as the feel of the material, it is very good and seems to be very well protected. I wouldnt go throwing it off the 2nd or 3rd story to put it to the test. However, it does look and feel like you spent your moneys worth. This hard drive has more than enough memory to hold me for a few more months. Now for those who really dont use large files. This hard drive should hold up for way lengthier period in comparison to to me and my photography and video uploads. I give it 5 stars. Best Regards.

I purchased this because I fear that my laptops built in hard drive is about to die on me. I figured it would be better to back up my data now just in case instead of waiting for the inevitable and then having lost all my data. The hard drive on my 4 year old HP Pavilion dv7t 7000 is only 750GB, so I could easily have fit the entire contents of my hard drive on this external one. Transferring data from my computer onto this drive was as simple as plugging it in and then it showed up as removable storage in the file manager. I dragged and dropped the files I wanted to keep onto this drive. The transfer speed was very fast, I was quite pleased. One thing about this drive that I dont care much for is the backup button. My understanding is that it is supposed to work with Transcends backup software, but it is completely useless to me as I was unable to get the software to function. It was working for a few minutes (albeit with a very confusing interface) and then it crashed and I was unable to get it working again. Overall this is a great external drive if you are okay with manually backing up your files. If the software and backup button are important to you, I recommend looking elsewhere or making sure the software works on your computer before buying the drive.

Im a game developer and an art student and the one thing that us computer folks need nowadays is a reliable external hard drive. I shepherd over large files almost on a daily basis, throughout several different computers for rendering high def graphics and files, and pretty much hope that my hard drive would withstand the beating I give it and hope and pray that it would not break down because of all the time spent and hard work put into everything saved. Thats why I love this little piece of hardware. It does not feel cheap like a Seagate or a Western Digital. Its got 3 levels of drop damage protection and I know a lot of people hate how heavy it is, believe me its not. For someone like me who walks around the room holding a hard drive going from computer to computer, it actually helps to know how weighted it is so it actually prevents me from dropping it. Plus, Ive dropped my Passport external HD and the USB connector actually came off, so going to the Transcend was a good experience. Not to mention, the connection speed is FAST. I plug this in and it connects to my computer within seconds, transfer speeds are awesome, and it disconnects without a problem. The only thing Im a little confused about is on the box it stated QUICK RECONNECT functionality for the button, but unfortunately it is not. The button only serves as a QUICK BACKUP function while Transcends Elite software is running on the background. I would highly recommend this as ive tried 3 generations of Seagate Flex HDs and 4 gens of Western Digitals from portables to desktop HD.

I cant say how disappointed I am with this product. It stopped working after week 4 for no apparent reason. Have to return it and buy something else. It looks great and is sturdy on the outside but I wouldnt recommend it. *********** 8/15/2013 UPDATE TO MY INITIAL REVIEW ****************** I wish I was providing a better update, but if there was a 0 rating for this product, I would change my 1 to a 0. I cannot adequately describe how disappointed I am in the company and product. When the product stopped worked after only using it for 4 weeks, I tried to get it fixed. I had completely forgotten about my warranty. Then I got an email from Amazon asking me to rate the prodcut, so I gave my honest feedback above. After I wrote my initial review, Captain Transcend reached out and I engaged the company hopeful for a resolution. Upon their suggestion, I sent the product in to get a replacement and have them attempt to recover my data. A few times after trying to reach support for questions, I would not get a response. No call backs, no returning voice mail. Eventually, we connected and I mailed in the product at my expense. Today I was informed that they are returning my drive because the seal is broken and that voids the warranty. I explained to the lady in support that the seal was broken because the product stopped working and I tried to get it fixed. She said there was nothing she could do. My disappointment comes in how the matter was handled. While I understand that I should not have taken the product to be fixed, I also understand that Transcend should make products that WORK. If the drive worked as expected (and paid for in full), I would not have had to try and get it fixed. There was no effort on their part to come to a resolution for the sake of the customer. At one point I was told that I was free to do whatever I wanted when I mentioned that I would be rating their product online. If you are one of the people whose drive works - good for you! I took the time to write this review in case it helps someone else. If you get stuck with one of the defective drives, good luck trying to deal with Transcend. Maybe you will fare better. As for me, I am back to square one, looking for a drive not made by this company.

One plus one is greater than two. Transcend"s StoreJet 25M3 portable hard drive combines the advantages of Transcend"s award-winning shockproof StoreJet M series and the next-generation SuperSpeed transfer rates of USB 3.0, allowing users to enjoy ultra-fast file transfers and the highest level of anti-shock protection. Besides its outstanding combination of super fast transfer speeds and extra-rugged anti-shock design, the StoreJet 25M3 is equipped with an extremely convenient One Touch auto-backup button. Now you can instantly backup, synchronize and copy large files without having to waste precious time waiting for the transfer to complete.
