> 3 dayWhat can I say? I arrived quickly. Says plug and play on the box. Oh- you should know that I am a Cisco Networking student (2nd year) so while I am not an expert, I am experienced with basic networks and switches which is why I bought this one-- it was supposed to be easy. The photo directions indicate to plug the internet into slot 5 and everything else into the rest. I had 3 lines: 1 (Cat 5) for the internet itself, coming off of the wireless modem 2) a Cat 5 for my laptop which I need for working from home, and a cat 5 for my Solar monitoring system. Simple, right? It would be if everything worked. I had originally plugged my laptop directly from the modem because wired networks are ALWAYS faster than wireless, but that meant unplugging my Solar monitor. I like having the monitor because that way I am able to keep my power company in check. I followed the directions from the switch and Butkiss. Nothing. My laptop is telling me theres no IP Address coming from the line. ??? I unplugged the line going into the switch and plugged it into my computer and VIOLA! 890 mbs per second! Took it out, back into the switch. Nothing. YES- It was plugged in to power and the lights were on. So... I swapped all the cables around (all cables are new too, btw). Zero. Nothing. So...I called the TRENDnet support number. I understand that they have a large call volume with everything going on now. What I dont understand is why they feel the need to repeat the same message every 10 seconds...I waited on the phone for OVER AN HOUR! Never once was I given the option to leave a message. So... I went to their website. After fiddle-farting around with creating an account, verifying the account via my email address-- I was finally able to fill out a support ticket. 25 hours later, I get an email. The instructions were VERY clear to me: Verify the switch- disconnect the internet and plug the switch between two computers and see if you can ping each other. I wonder how many people would understand what that means, let alone how to do it. That was it. Nothing else. Problem is, I dont have another computer that I can ping. I have my personal laptop and my work laptop, My work laptop is locked down tighter than 10 feet up a whales butt; I dont have administrative access to conduct the test the technician was telling me to do. That email came at 8am and I stated that I only had access to one computer. Now, you would think that since the ticket was created, they would also see my reply and immediately pipe back with: Kind sir, I am very sorry for your troubles. This is an easy fix. If you would be as so kind as to allow me the priviledge to speak with you on the telephone, we could wrap this up in a Jiffy! Alas, that call never happened...nor will it ever. You see, for $17 they get absolutely 1 chance to make this right or BACK TO AMAZON IT GOES! BTW- I must say, AMAZON has really been losing sight of quality lately. I have returned more items this year than the previous 5 years COMBINED! Get it together Amazon-- or Walmart will!

> 3 daySwitches are boring, so there isnt much to say. I was a die-hard Netgear switch fan until I tried a few TRENDnet switches because of the lower price. I have half a dozen of the 5, 8, and 24 port swtiches, and all are solid. No failures, and full Gig-E speeds when testing with iperf. Definitely worth buying.

> 3 dayI have been using Trendnet ethernet switches for a long time, and they have always been dependable. About a month ago I powered down my system to do some dust cleaning. When I powered everything back up, one of my switches bit the dust.. I replace it with this switch. I started losing my network connection to my entertainment center, but was not sure which device was causing the problem. Fortunately, the loss of network connections got to the point where I was able to identify this switch as the culprit. Amazon is sending a replacement, hopefully, this will be the end of my network loosing connectivity. Update: I have not received the replacement yet, but now I am not sure that this switch is the problem. I will just keep both of them and pay for the replacement. I can always use it as a back up in case I do find out which device is bad. I am beginning to think one of my devices on my network is killing my network connectivity, and not this switch. Only time will tell, but at least I will have a back up.
