11-04-2025Works pretty well. Since you have to transfer the tapes in real-time, its nice to be able to set a record timer on the software and walk away from the PC. Makes transferring several tapes pretty easy. DVD authoring feature is pretty good, but its not for noobs. Youll turn several DVD-Rs into coasters and frisbees before you finally get the hang of it.

Greater than one weekAfter recording 40 DVDs excellent results, also have used on VHS and Super 8 cam recorder. I used the picture software that accompanies the product to pull photos from my scanner and crop and reprint. I was a little skeptical when I read the other reviews but as sold on this product. I would highly recommend anyone wanting to save their old VHS tapes movies to purchase this product.

Greater than one weekThe package did great at converting my VHS videos to digital files, although I wish it had an HDMI interface (does anyone still have S-VHS cables?). The short coming I found was in the software to edit the digital files after I converted them so that I could string them together into one DVD video, with chapter breaks and such. I had to get other software to do that. But with the conversion it did great.

Greater than one weekI had rated this 4 stars before I got my new computer and Windows 8; it definitely works better with Windows 8 (and 10?). I have used this to create CDs from old audio tapes and DVDs from old VHS tapes and am quite pleased. Quality of output is not high due to RGA or S-video limitations but that is as expected. I was glad to be able to recycle my old home VHS recordings (since VHS players are now hard to find).

> 3 dayThe item is really easy to use. You only need to install the program CD and it works very easy. The quality of the file is not very high but its O.K. Probably the items with higher price have better quality than this one. One more notice: All my tapes are more that 3 hours long, the VIDBOX makes record only for max. 3 hours and I am forced to record the remained 15-20 Minutes separately.

Greater than one weekI gave this a try after reading mixed reviews. Some people had good luck and some did not. I did not. The video portion works fine, however, audio is a problem. Further, a call to customer service left me thinking they have no idea what they are talking about. The issue is very poor audio quality. As soon as there is a useful (proper) level going into the device it distorts. The software shows strong audio levels when the output of the audio mixer was silent and even when no audio connections are made to the device. Support told me that it will not work with anything other than a camera output or videotape machine output. Come on! Plugging the device into a video deck is going to cause phantom audio levels to go away? When I play back the file with the strong-level audio (as indicated by the software audio meter) there is nothing there. It is silent. I am an audio - video professional and have worked in this position for a couple of decades. I was looking for a low-cost and simple solution for capturing audio and video at our Church and was not concerned with top quality. I at least expected something usable. Personally, I think I received a defective unit. I would have just tried to exchange it for another unit until the call with technical support which left me with no confidence in this company. I will return this unit and probably try the Elgato video capture device. UPDATE 3-7-16 Apparently this review caught the attention of the companys technical support group. The reply illustrates my frustration with the company. For those that like technical detail, read on. This device captures analog audio and video. Video is in the form of standard NTSC via RCA jack input - just like the output of a typical consumer VCR. Audio input is analog unbalanced -10 dBV left and right via RCA jacks - just like the output of a typical consumer VCR. Recording from a VCR is the primary purpose of the device. What I attempted to do with the device was to connect the video to a camera that provided analog NTSC video output. The video recorded properly with the device. Audio was provided via two unbalanced RCA jacks on the tape output of a Mackie audio console at a nominal level of -10dBV - EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE OUTPUT OF THE TYPICAL CONSUMER VCR. The audio level could not be brought up to a usable level without distorting. The audio meter on the device software showed about one bar shy of going into yellow with no signal being output from the audio console. It showed the same with the audio cables disconnected from the device! How is it measuring a strong audio level with nothing connected? Playing back the file recorded with this mysterious signal yielded no audio. The purpose of buying this product was to capture audio and video that was just usable, not high grade. I have worked in audio / video (analog and digital) for over two decades. This includes broadcast, theater, and running an electronics repair business where most of my work was on VCRs. I strongly suspect I had a bad unit or there is something about the Windows 8.1 laptop I was using that it did not like. As noted, I wanted to exchange the device, but I really felt that the technical support person wasnt very interested in helping or in understanding how this was being utilized. The quick reply was that the device would not work with live streams. In the analog world devices like this cannot sense the difference between video and audio coming form a VCR / camcorder or a live camera with audio sourced from a sound board. The video worked - that is the more complicated part of the device. Audio should be simple but that is where the problem is. I have ordered a different device which is basically the same thing (and same price) but from a different manufacturer. I am very eager to test it when it arrives. I really wanted to give this device another try with a replacement unit but the manufacturer showed no interest in this. UPDATE 3-18-16 I ordered and received the Elgato Video Capture device. The connections are the same as the Vidbox VHStoDVD. It works perfectly. After ordering, the price of the VHStoDVD went down and the Elgato Video Capture went up so there is now a price difference. The only thing I dont like about the Elgato is that the audio meters are not present while recording, just in pre-recording setup. Other than that, the audio and video quality are good and it is easy to use.

Greater than one weekEasy to install S/W and hardware. Had problems with the VHS conversion but could have been my equipment. Beta conversion to DVD went well after a learning curve. Users guide installs with S/W installation which is handy. Support answered my questions vis e-mail in a timely manner and helped with a problem. Read the Users Guide thoroughly before you start because capturing, editing, and burning can be tricky. Suggest use of DVD-RW when first burning project. Then if o.k. remaining discs can be burned using one time burn DVDs. That way cuts down on bad burns and discs that have to be discarded. Warning: My Sony Blu-Ray DVD player would not play DVDs with title and menus in content. Eliminating them did not bother me but it might some users. Did not try editing.

> 3 dayThis product works exactly as described and does a great job of capturing and copying VHS to a digital format. I recommend this over many others simply because of the ability to create MPEG4 format as most other converters will not do this. The software included is very easy to navigate and understand. This product would work great for an inexperienced or experienced operator. I have it installed on a Win 10 machine and it works very well.

Greater than one weekI’ve been meaning to convert my old VHS and camcorder tapes and wanted to make sure that someone could help me if I ran into any problems since I have no experience in any of this. I was a little hesitant at first after reading some of the reviews but decided to give this product a try anyway because they seem to be the only one I found to have customer support and people who used their older products seem to like them. I ran into some problems at first when I couldn’t see anything on my PC so I called the customer support and they walked me through the whole thing. It turned out that I just connected the cables wrong. I felt a little embarrassed but the guy I talked to was very patient and nice, and even made sure everything worked fine before getting of the phone. Other than the glitch at the beginning, I’m actually surprised by how easy it was to use! I even tried to edit a little using their more advanced mode. I’m definitely glad that I got this product and would recommend it to others like me.

> 3 dayI was able to successfully preserve old tapes of my childhood thanks to this product. The software (while visually outdated) ran well on Windows 10. I ended up running the captured content through Sony Vegas to compress the file size and fix some small sound issues (mono sound only coming through one speaker). This was not a quick project and I didnt expect it to be since I had well over 20 hours of tape to go through. But it is 100% worth it. Act now people. Remember, tapes will degrade over time but video files wont.
