At first I was very confused because I have a MacBook Air. If you are looking to just download music on the hard drive the process is a little bit different. You have to: - Insert the cord into you computer - Go to Disk Utility - Click My Passport - Go to Erase - Click ExFAT if you want it to be compatible with Mac & PC - Click Done It is literally that simple.

We received a replacement drive on a Friday and it was in the trash Saturday. It was a refurbished one, not in the original packaging, wrapped in something similar to Saran Wrap and placed in a box. We wasted a lot of time trying to get these things to work, to no avail. We Googled this, Googled that, looked at YouTube videos, read this, read that, got on their Website, got nowhere. We never saw the icon on the desktop, went to finder and spotlight looking for the execution file, nothing. Meanwhile the reviews, in general, are good so the thinking must be, these are two dummies. Well dummy suggests that you buy this locally, keep your receipt, return it if it fails you, get yourself a refund. We are out $76.50 ($59 for unit, $7 for the suggested cable that wasn’t needed and $7.50 to return the first one we received). I have to assume that these WD Drives usually work well; we just happened to luck out. So buy it if it’s the one you want but do it locally if possible. The irony is the little SanDisk flash drive we bought in October, 2015 for a measly $11 still works. We wanted something better because we plan to buy a new Mac, a costly idea.

It is an external hard drive so there is not much to rate, lol. It transfers quickly as advertised. I have not ever dropped it and I rarely use it, only transferring from a safe to my laptop bag on an unusual occasion. One thing that is not at all a deal breaker but kind of frustrating is that, after using lightly only a handful of times, one of the four rubber grippers on the corner of the bottom fell off. For a top producer of a mid-grade external hard drive, youd think that Western Digital would at least use glue on those pads that would properly secure them... but they apparently did not. Its now only a matter of time till they fall off and it slides around on the desk/unevenly rocks from a pad or two missing; perhaps I will superglue them myself.

Well what can I say its amazing so far. Does everything as advertised. Im not sure how protected the HDD is but it feels nice and sturdy. Im not willing to try and find out though. Its really nice to have 1tb of storage from western digital to backup all my data so when the cheap brand hard drive dies in my laptop I still have something to rely on. My laptop hard drive died about a week ago and sadly it was too far gone to create a new backup. but because of this hard drive I havent lost all of my progress from my drawings and can later go back to them

I purchased the unit to expand the memory of my play station 4. all it took was plugging the unit in with the supplied cord and following some very simple steps to allow the ps4 to use an external memory. took 2 min tops. I am very happy with the results. I no longer have to delete games to make room for updates or new games.

My laptop only has a 256 GB SSD, so this was a great buy for the price. Ive read that I can install another hard drive into my laptop, but I dont feel comfortable doing that. Im a college kid and gamer so 256 GB is literally nothing when you think games like WoW take up 70 ish gigs. I can also store photos and I love that this drive includes a cloud based back up. If/when the drive dies, Ill always have access to my files. This is really a smart purchase if your current system doesnt have enough space and you want to free up space by using a spare drive/cloud back up.

I managed to get this unit operating with the excellent help from Amazon. There is NO documentation with the unit and only by going online and downloading a user manual was I able to get started. I then found a user manual self-loads during installation. If anyone without a magnifying glass can read the print on the 4 pages of mini printed paperwork with this unit (in every language in the world) they will still not find the documentation needed. Product appears to be working well and backed up our system fine. However, the instructions for settings come from the Windows software and have to be accessed through your own Start functions as there is no way I was able to access them through the installation procedure. Good product (I hope). POOR documentation or lack of it.

I like the size and reliability. Its not a stick that can get lost or misplaced. I would warn this drive is delicate and shouldnt be moved around a lot as it has moving/spinning parts inside. Would recommend getting a longer USB cable (model specific).

My Passport is the trusted, portable storage that perfectly complements your on-the-go lifestyle. Designed to fit in the palm of your hand, there’s plenty of space to store a massive amount of photos, videos, music and documents. Perfectly paired with WD Backup software and password protection, the My Passport drive helps keep your files safe.
