    Greater than one week

I have to admit I was a bit skeptical about this one. Over the years, Ive continued to upgrade my trusty, old laptop, swapping out memory, converting from spinning platter to SSDs, etc., so when I thought about back-up storage due to the recent rash of ransomware attacks, my first instinct was to invest in a portable SSD, but theyre still a little steep in terms of price per gigabyte. Therefore, I looked (somewhat reluctantly) into spinning platters. Im glad I did. I got this WD Passport (2TB) for a very reasonable price. OK, there was one hurdle overcome, but what about PERFORMANCE? Well, Im glad you asked. Once I got the drivers loaded on to my laptop so that it could interface with the hard drive, I transferred 65GB of files in one transfer and it took only a few minutes. I double-checked once the transfer was done and everything seems to be intact.

What I like about this external hard drive is that I can partition it. I copied my computers system backup from partition D to a partition on the HD. I also did a system image back up and also individual files such as music, pictures, and documents to the main partition. Ill do backups as the system and files change. Im running windows 10.

Arrived just in time since my nine year old Seagate Free Agent suddenly died. Definitely an improvement with usb 3.0. Made an image backup using AEMOI software of a Windows 10, 320gb hdd in less than 20 minutes with another 10 minutes to verify. Really great stuff to own. However, caution is advised not to misplace your usb power/data cord since the device end appears to be proprietary. My older Seagate usb 2 power/data cord would not fit. Otherwise, exceptional product and I will probably buy another within the next several months. You can never ever have enough backups. Western Digital is the best.

Mac users running El Capitan and Sierra: The instructions in the online manual for preparing the drive for use on a Mac are incorrect. If you follow the manual instructions that tell you how to use the Mac Disk Utility already on your computer to erase and reformat the new drive, you will receive the FAIL info box. My new drive was set up for Windows when it arrived and I needed to erase and reformat it for Mac OS. Since I only wanted a simple external drive that was portable and could hold all the stuff I was working on, I had no need for partitioning. When you open the disk utility, you will see My Passport (volume) and My Passport XXXX Media....... in the left hand column. Click on the TOP (My Passport .....Media....) listing to select it. Dont click on the bottom (volume) listing as shown in the online manual. Then go up top and click on ERASE. You will see a box open up that shows a drop down box: My Passport .......Media....... The second line will show four possibilities and I selected Mac OS Extended (Journaled) The bottom line should be selected GUID ...... Hit erase and let your disk utility go to work. When it is done (mine took a couple of minutes) you are ready to drag files in and out of your My Passport on your Mac.

I purchased the unit to expand the memory of my play station 4. all it took was plugging the unit in with the supplied cord and following some very simple steps to allow the ps4 to use an external memory. took 2 min tops. I am very happy with the results. I no longer have to delete games to make room for updates or new games.

My daily indispensable companion, my computer started giving me warnings that maybe my hard drive is about to fail. Ive already got my photos, music, videos and correspondence individually backed up, but the thought of having to re-install everything was daunting. I bought My Passport to image the whole drive. The price was certainly affordable and Amazons shipping got it here in a couple of days while I was still thinking about it. The bottom line is peace of mind.

Used this little guy to upgrade the storage on my ps4 slim. The days of juggling which games were downloaded are a thing of the past! It was really easy to set up, and after a couple weeks of heavy use, it’s shown no delays or any form of hiccup. I’ll update this if it fails randomly, but so far this has been one of my best purchases in a while. No regerts.

Its compact and does the job I need. I needed to take stuff off the computer because my pc may crash and Id never see those docs or pics on it again so I got this. Its an old laptop and lately it has been freezing and wiping out. The WD is easy to use and compact. I got a case for it. I had another brand and it dropped and never worked again so be very careful with these. They tend to get shocked from falls and bumps and that is not good. So far, Im happy with it.

Im using this for additional ps4 memory. Ive only had it for 2 weeks now, but just wanted to say how easy it is to set up. I dont have a ton of games, so a 1tb external drive was enough of an upgrade to my original 500gb. Like most of you, Ive read reviews about how these things die prematurely. Ill keep my fingers crossed, but so far so good.

Great little external hard drive. Took it out of the box, and plugged it into a 3.0 USB port. Windows recognized it immediately. Backups are quick and easy. My only disappointment is that I was hoping to plug it into the USB port on my Netgear router, and access it across my network. Both Netgear and Western Digital indicated that this should work, but I was unable to get Windows to see the drive. A web search found that others had the same problem, and were unable to find a solution.

My Passport is the trusted, portable storage that perfectly complements your on-the-go lifestyle. Designed to fit in the palm of your hand, there’s plenty of space to store a massive amount of photos, videos, music and documents. Perfectly paired with WD Backup software and password protection, the My Passport drive helps keep your files safe.
