> 3 dayUse it to play 4k movies and tv shows on my sony tv. Works great. No issues so far, 4 months and counting. Will update review accordingly in the future. Edit: Made original review in 2017. Its now September of 2021. Still using this drive hooked up to my tv. No issues with transferring or playing file whatsoever four years later.

> 3 dayI had no trouble installing this disk drive. Also, it is quite fast at backing up my data. In reading other product reviews of external disk drives (not just WD), I have noticed a concern about the relatively high failure rate of disk drives in general -- though, according to product reviews and evaluations, Western Digitals drives seem to fare a little better than Seagates. But to help with this problem, if you purchase a WD, you will notice that the disk comes with some third-party software that allows you to thoroughly check the health of the disk, sector by sector, whenever you like. It can take a few hours, but you can always let it run in the background. It is among the apps called WD Drive Utilities. By running this app every now and then, you can lessen the possibility of a nasty surprise later.

> 3 dayMy daily indispensable companion, my computer started giving me warnings that maybe my hard drive is about to fail. Ive already got my photos, music, videos and correspondence individually backed up, but the thought of having to re-install everything was daunting. I bought My Passport to image the whole drive. The price was certainly affordable and Amazons shipping got it here in a couple of days while I was still thinking about it. The bottom line is peace of mind.

> 3 dayI bought this back in 2018 didnt even use but maybe a couple of times - it sat around for years and then thought yeah Im going to move all my vids and pics to it. Well it doesnt work. It will not initialize, computer doesnt recognize it. Do a search on the web for My Passport has fatal error - there is no help other then to say try a different computer of coarse by a new cable did that and some other check disk stuff, no way around it. There is no way out of this error. Wasted Money.

> 3 dayIt is an external hard drive so there is not much to rate, lol. It transfers quickly as advertised. I have not ever dropped it and I rarely use it, only transferring from a safe to my laptop bag on an unusual occasion. One thing that is not at all a deal breaker but kind of frustrating is that, after using lightly only a handful of times, one of the four rubber grippers on the corner of the bottom fell off. For a top producer of a mid-grade external hard drive, youd think that Western Digital would at least use glue on those pads that would properly secure them... but they apparently did not. Its now only a matter of time till they fall off and it slides around on the desk/unevenly rocks from a pad or two missing; perhaps I will superglue them myself.

> 3 dayIt is completely useless after a couple of weeks! I use it as an extended storage device for my Ps4 and from I read from other reviews, others did this as well so I followed and turned out great as a self Christmas gift. It worked fine for the first two weeks and recently, its went straight to the trash. All my files got corrupted none the less, the My Passport took it upon itself to delete all my game application files on it. This ticked me off so much. Do keep in my i didnt touch it nor disconnect it without the proper way. So I did what anyone else would do, go through countless hours re-downloading my game application such as Gta5, WW2, Destiny 2, Fortnite, etc. So finally, after all is done, after all of my time and effort to download everything back, it plays fine for no less than two hours and kicks me out of my current game, telling me the file has been corrupt once more!!! Now it doesnt stop blinking, I cant even access it anymore with my Ps4 nor re-format it to reuse it. This is ridiculous! If you think this only happens to every other person, I thought the same, now look where I stand, dont be that person to buy this product and stand in my shoes later on after. Never will buy from this Manufacturer or Seller again! Waste of my money and time!!!!!!!

> 3 dayLasted me a few months and stopped working out of no where one day and lost all my information on there. My brother also has one that has been working for years, I recommend getting the 2-year warranty just in case you get.

> 3 dayThis is my first external USB portable drive and I do like it quite a bit. Its small, sleek, and very quiet. I dont even notice when the drive is active. The included USB cable is rather short so I purchased a 3 ft cable to give me more flexibility in terms of how I connect the drive and place it relative to my desktop. I reformatted the drive, effectively wiping out the included software, which I didnt really want or need. The drive activity light is on the same end as the USB connection, which seems backwards to me. It makes more sense to me to put the light on the opposite end. The only issue I had was upon initial installation of the drivers. The Western Digital SES Driver failed to install on Windows 7. Fortunately, a legacy driver is available for download from WDs web site. The driver is not required in order to use the drive, but if you dont install it youll always get a driver failure when you login. I did reinstall Windows 7 for various unrelated reasons and the SES Driver did install successfully after a clean Windows reinstall. So, I image if your Windows is clean and fully up to date you may not have any issues installing the SES Driver. Overall I think its a great drive. Im withholding one star though, because of the short cable and the issue installing the SES Driver.

> 3 dayIt was no longer recognized on my device manager but the light was on the drive is lit, I could hear and feel the disk spinning as it was receiving power from the USB but there was no disk read output... The interesting thing is that it failed once I turned off the Start on Startup option on the WD Discovery software.. Being mildly involved/aware in the world of PC hacking and snooping, that made me suspicious. So I plugged the WD drive into another PC and shazam the auto play fires right up and suggests that I install the WD software... Okay so in my cynical thinking I decide that it could be a registry entry in the software that wont let it read to my PC unless its on line and activated once the software has been installed. So I go back to the PC that it doesnt read on and uninstall the WD software. Plug the drive into the USB and of course its still not reading because of the registry entry/entries, then I plug in another old WD drive that is so old that the system supposedly doesnt recognize and just as I suspected the new drive comes on line when the old drive is also plugged in... Im not going through how it works but if you dont want issues with this drive, dont install the WD software. As far as security on what is on your PC and what you feel important to back up, think about what I have written here. To me it seems more like spy ware... You decide... The drive works fine on auto-play now that all the WD software has been cleaned out...
